I lived there for 20 years - 1964-84. The answer to your question is 'no'. Great place to grow up...back in the day. You couldn't pay me to live their now.
I was in SGV for a week and got a chance to experience their high quality and cheap priced foods. It was delicious. I paid $5.50 for Roast duck/BBQ pork over rice in SGV. Back in the bay area. it's nearly $8 for the same thing. I really think it all had to do with real estate. If it cost more to lease the building your restaurant is in, than you have to past the cost on to your customers. It's pure economics.
MPk is an alright place to live, but, nothing exciting bout it! I grew up and lived there for 20+ years... glad I moved outta there! lol still visit the fam every week..
after leaving LA, visiting some friends here and arriving back home, I dream of living in a place like this once I can get a job here and escape the ridiculous prices in sydney.
LOL. San Gabriel valley. Mar Center!!! That's near my grandparent's retirement apartment! Used to live there, not good place to live, but I really lived in rosemead, city near there, horrible crime rate. Don't come here if you don't, like chinese food, every corner there's going to be chinese people, chinese restaurants, chinese stores, etc. my old school had more than 75% asians, no kidding.
Monterey Park it only one portion of what you see, don't forget to check out others city around there like Alhambra, El Monte , never mine the hole San Gabriel valley in Asian,I totally missed Monterey Park it a good to live , I lived there for about 2 years ,well if you are Asian lol best asian food around.......
Monterey park is the best place to live. i bet it's better than where ur from. it's a little mecca for asian cuisine. on 2:36 to ur left on the second floor is the best dim sum ever. go check it out, you monterey park foreigner!!!!!
