At 3:40 a beautiful theme is presented and developed a bit, but not repeated later. I wonder if Beethoven used it somewhere else, or if it was a quotation from someone else. Seems too good to be used and left there like that.
I saw this man In 1972 at my 17 play this concerto in my home town Bratislava with Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra what an awesome experience for a young 17 year old violinist. I remember same face expressions. This is a genius. I later learned he died of a heart attack on a night train from Vienna to Vilnius in 1978, I think at age 58, what a horrible way to go for a simple man he was. Genius.
I just saw Ilya Kaler play this with the Detroit Symphony orchestra yesterday. He sounded JUST like Kogan. I know he was one of his students come ot think of it. It was nothing short of spectacular
The recorded sound is so superb it adds immeasurably to the enjoyment of this great performance, in which the performers have ideally captured the spirit of Beethoven. Please, people, this is just my opinion; I do not appreciate snide comments about "what is your evidence?" etc.
@francescoorsi it remember me the theme of the mozart's 21st piano concerto...
