  • I'm in the flow now.

  • happiness is a way, a philosophy of being.

  • Happiness is also being in a mindset of happiness, which results from a way of thinking looking at things for many, by doing certain things by habit for many, and often a combination of both.

  • Happiness is doing something YOU enjoy ! being actively engaged in something you enjoy. For each person that may be something different, to some extent at least.

  • Happiness is a subjective term. One persons happiness, might not be a source of happiness for another. For example, i love to read books and watch movies, those activities make me happy, but for another person they may not.

  • To be happy all you need to do is watch the documentary Finding Joe, seriously they tell you everything from Tony Hawk, to Buddhist Rinpoche, to Rashida Jones. youtube.com /watch?v=QTVKmZZN39I&feature=youtu.be

  • There is no sound on this video.

  • hy does he look like hes not that old?..

  • @PkSage89 And is it just me, or does he look like hes trying to hold in a laugh ?

  • happiness can be contagious! Share your happiness to the world!

  • awesome :)

  • I'm not a student but I do like psychology and this Dr. makes a lot of sense.

  • I am mesmerized by Dr. Siegel's eyes - kind, sincere eyes.

  • You are probably eager to stay healthy and enjoy your life in the most vibrant, vigorous way possible, positive emotions have been linked with greater well being in numerous scientific studies

  • .U can attain a psychological condition of "NO THOUGHT" through meditation, which is nearly impossible ......... but the view of being happy forever is an outsiders view....... cuz the one who is meditating has "NO THOUGHT AT ALL" ... so finally A person in a state of coma is described as "comatose" oh! Im sorry as a "HAPPY PERSON" "Permanently "....

  • @psycool666

Well, not quite. A person meditating, like myself who has been meditating for eighteen years, may not have thoughts during a session, but still experiences positive emotions like bliss. On the other hand, a person in coma has no thoughts and experiences no emotions. Therefore, we would not call him or her a "permanently" happy person :)

  • His statements are conflicting!

Well the " assistant clinical professor of psychology " needs to know that "Happiness is only a temporary feeling" ---

There is no way we can achieve Happiness for good!! To attain happiness "Permanently "....

  • What makes us happy?

    1. Virtues

    2. appreciation

    3. living in moment-- smell the rose

    4. Engagement/Flow--- being in the zone-- doing for the sake of doing..

    5. living the life that is meaningful

mindfulness--- technology --- awareness of present experience with acceptance

  • stoned einstein loool

  • Initially he states that we may not have an ingrained propensity for happiness (1:21)

However later he says that our propensity for happiness is somewhat hardwired (3:21)

He needs to make up his mind before I can take him seriously.

  • @monkimind What he meant at 1:21 was that it's not ingrained in us to be happy in general. At 3:21, he was saying that our level of happiness is determined by a genetic set point. That level of happiness may not be what you'd generally call "happy," and it's different for every person.

Hope that clears up some confusion.

  • take the elevators instead of the stairs =.=

  • 1:20

    bam.

  • what makes ones happy is expanding once comfort zone.

    just do it tm

  • Is this Albert Einstein

  • very well said..and u really look happy

  • here's the thing. happiness not being evolutionary? yes, evolution selects organisms that are able to reproduce. however, there is proof that less stress leads to higher chances of successful pregnancies. surely, that must be an important reason that it is somewhat evolutionary.

  • @atruckranmeover1

... data necessary. post some links to evidence.

also, one must consider whether the difference is appreciable. if it rings true, then a good birth control tip would be to have angry sex- no other contraception needed.

  • This guys the howard stern of psychology <3 so freaking epic

  • I don't care if liberals are annoyed by loud manic people...

  • I am a manic depressive and I am glad I am one of the genius types because I am majoring in this and if I can own hallucinations and shame and live a happy life... I can not just make a life for me and help many people but put drug companies out of a job...

Einstein or VanGogh on Lithium would be a shame to humanity...

  • brilliant interview with great quetions! that's the kind of psychologal research results people are longing to hear but never know where to look for. p.s.: of course, he means you should take the stairs instead of the elevator - not the other way round to maintain physical fitness ;)

  • you are so right, enjoying the moment is the best experience to have, and i agree that for the 2 weeks that i paid attention to every thing i was doing, i felt more alive.

but how do you do that when you have plans and tasks to worry about.

things that your life depends on, like morgages or debts or major plans?

my mind cant help but drift, i think most people worry more than anything
