We don't see as much overt racism today but racism still exists. Non-white people are seen as "other" and as white people still continue to have the power in society, racism largely acts today against the marginalization of non-white people. black people reclaiming the N word is a way of reclaiming some of that power back.

I have a friend that felt if everybody no matter what age or color couldn't say the word and not get in trouble in school, fired from a job or beat up in the streets, then it is obviously a considered a bad word.
