  • What would you say are the biggest pros/cons between going with the SR40 or the SR40c (aside from size and feel).

  • Size and feel are the only differences that matter. There is a slight velocity advantage to the longer barrel, but not enough to make a real difference.

    Jeff

  • Hey Jeff, I am trying to make a decision between the sr9c and sr40c for my carry gun. Would you recommend the 40 over the 9 because of more stopping power?? Also does the 40 have a considerable amount more of recoil than the 9? Thanks in advance and really enjoy your reviews!

  • I would not. Personally, I prefer the 9mm.

    Jeff

  • I have been told from some police officers that a .40 is better if I ever did have to defend myself because a 9mm would pass through more objects after the person. Does the 40 have alot more recoil than the 9? Thanks!

  • The 40 does have more recoil. Penetration depends upon bullet shape, construction, velocity, and sectional density. The 9 does not penetrate more than the 40, or anything else, with those things being equal.

    Jeff

  • should i get this gun or glock 23 ?

  • Both are very good, but I prefer the Ruger.

  • I just picked one of theese up so far I love it.

  • I wish I could trade my SR9c for a SR40c

  • hey gunblast! I was wondering since you shoot a lot of guns and use lots of ammo, where do you buy your ammo that supplies the best bulk ammo (brass and not steel cases)? Also what are the best brands (for performance and for reloading the cases) for the most part that you have found?

  • For reloading, get name-brand brass cases. I do not shoot the cheap steel-cased European junk through my guns. I like to buy bulk ammo from luckygunner-dot-com and theamericanmarksman-dot-com.

    Jeff

  • that music sounds like a mario game from yesteryear...not sure if its from super NES

  • Your review of this gun convince to purchase this excellent firearm. Being from California I have to wait for 10 days. Good to have you on Youtube. Happy New Year!!

  • I just picked up a SR40C and love it. I already had the SR9C. These are great guns. Easy to shoot and very accurate.

  • I was never convinced that the 40cal wonder round could truly out perform the 9mm. My brother bought a sr40c and we took turns shooting that and my G4 19. On the next saturday I traded my glock for a lc9 lasermax for my wife and I bought the sr40c for myself. At 100 feet pretty much all the 40 ammo I have shot all hits in my sight picture. With the 9mm the weight of the slug changed the point of impact with every round.

  • Is there any practical reason, other than personal preference, to choose either the blackened alloy or the brushed stainless version? I'm looking to buy the SR9c and can't decide.

  • Just a matter of preference, like picking out the color on a new car.

    Jeff

  • Jeff, thanks for your reviews. Very informative as usual. I really like the looks of this gun and it doesn't appear that purchasing this Ruger has anything to do wit cost, as it appears to be as good a gun if not better than some of the others in the price range of $100 more. Thanks again.

  • Mr. Quinn,

Allow me to congratulate you on your reviews in general and this one in particular. Before I look anywhere else for opinions on weapons, I always check your 'site first.

I am about to purchase my first CC SD firearm. I was leaning toward the G27 but, after holding it and an SR40C (and after seeing your review) I am convinced the Ruger is better for me. Finally, thank you for illustrating the ambidextrous controls on the SR40c; I am also lef-handed.

    Sincerely,

    Eric Torres

  • Glad to help, Eric. I think you made the right choice.

    Jeff

  • @et2681 The SR40c will be much more pleasant to shoot than the Glock 27. I love the baby Glocks but the G27 is snappy. SR40c shoots nice.

  • Comment removed

  • Jeff ,How in size is it bigger than the lc9? I have the lc9 love it .and wants get sr40c next.thank you in advance..

  • I'm impressed!!!!!! Looks very controlable and he put em all right there!!!

  • I will not. I don't give broad-range advise on what weapon to choose, no more than I give broad-range advice on choosing a new puppy or a wife. Different folks have different needs and desires, and for me to do so would be both arrogant and presumptuous. When I review a weapon, I report every problem encountered. I give accuracy reports, and report the number of malfunctions and the cause of such malfunctions. Also, if I think a gun is substandard, I do not review it.

    Jeff

  • Now, I will help individually. Email to me with your thoughts and situation, and I will gladly give you advice on that new gun purchase and the selection of a dog based upon brand and caliber. For advice on a new wife, please send a picture of both her and her mother.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom : Makes sense....thank you.

  • Glad to see that you didn't ruin your complexion. That is one beautiful weapon. If you were to carry & conceal a .40, would this be the one? If not, which one then?

  • I like it as well as any compact 40 caliber. it feels really good in the hand, is reliable, and easy to shoot well.

    Jeff

  • I have not, but if mine does, it does not concern me at all, as long as the weapon is functioning correctly.

    Jeff

  • "It would have ruined my complexion" LOL... Classic!

    Great review, as usual. Thanks.

  • Jeff I just found your website and your video's on you-tube. Both are very informative and give great insight to the firearm from a fellow gun enthusiast. Please keep up the great work

  • Thank you, Sir. You have a lot of catching up to do. We have about 900 reviews on Gunblast.com.

There will be a test on Friday.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom,

Given the choice would you have the SR9C or the SR40C? Every gun fits people differently but I still value professional opinions.

  • The guns feel almost exactly the same, with the 40 being just one ounce heavier. Personally, I prefer the 9mm, but the 40 is also a very good choice.

    Jeff

  • Hey man, are you sure it has mag safey? I have same weapon....mags hold 10 and 15 respecivly (plus 1..in chamber, not 9 and 14) good post

  • @jwrehm let me retract some of what i said, its a 9 and 15...

  • I am certain that it does. It will dry-fire, but the cartridge will not fire without the mag in place.

    Jeff

  • I enjoy your reviews, thank you.

  • I'm doing research on my first handgun purchase. I've narrowed it down to the ruger 9mm or this SR40c. I mainly want it for protection and easy concealment. I also wouldn't mind it for a little target shooting once in a while. After viewing several SR40c videos I'm going to go with it.

  • @supremacyh1 hey, if you are chosing between a P series Ruger and the SR, GO WITH THE SR, WAYYYYY better than P series.

  • I've been looking forward to this since the sr40 full size was released!! =)

  • If I wudda snagged that trigger it wudda ruined my complexion LMAO!!!

  • Thanks.. need to find me one..

  • We don't want anything to ruin your complexion. All your fans think you're quite beautiful as is.

  • Jeff, Thank you very much for this review. I am looking at this one for a conceal carry option. I can shoot with either hand although I favor the right hand. I look to your channel when I am interested in a weapon. Thanks again.

  • Where did you get those targets from? They look great, but I can't find them online.

  • triggerhappytarget-dot-com

  • @Gunblastdotcom Thanks! :-)

  • novak has tritium sights for the sr series. you can even ship your slide to them

  • Where can I find a holster for it? I need a slim fitting one for my belt

  • who the hell in their right mind would confuse JQ for a free mason!?!? I'm really warming up to the idea of getting an SR40c now!

  • Your a great well practiced marksman! I appreciate your video's; they are short n sweet gets right at the important points. No fluff and you demonstrate the suitability and right technique of firing the weapons. Best to ya!

  • I own a Ruger SR9 full and i most definately say the SR40C is my next purchase!

  • ".....it would have ruined my complextion." Awesome turn of phrase. I'll have to remember that one. :-)

  • they should make an sr 45 just sayin

  • Gotta love that song at the beginning and the end

  • im going to flip a coin over the 9 and the new(er) 40 compacts for carry.... Thanks for another great review

  • @Jagermonster703

You can! the holsters etc are pretty interchangeable =)

  • Jeff;

Excellent video. Tells exactly what a shooter needs to know, demos the ease of control (something I was curious about with the .40 round) and points out the features that matter. Video picture quality was also very good--now I want one dammit!

Thanks for maintaining the quality of your work--

  • From the look of it's design, it probably has less felt recoil because it looks like it has a lower bore axis than most of it's competitors.

  • how does it compare to the SR9 in size and weight?

  • Please see the referenced review, it has measurements and picture comparisons of the SR9c, SR40 and SR40c. To see dimensions of the full-sized SR9, you'll need to click through to the SR9c article.

  • @Gunblastdotcom thank you

  • @Gunblastdotcom

"it woulda ruined my complection" =)...... darn it fell down there i'll just grab it real quick BANG......bleeding bleeding yeah gonna need some medical attention

  • Looks like a great carry option!

  • Looks like it has a Glock trigger or something similar.

  • @Hashplant47 Oops, my bad...lol

  • I think my sr9 will have a new friend very soon

  • jeff if i didn't know any better i'd say that you're a freemason

  • @TheNeanderthaller Now you've done it. Ninjas will come for you calling out a Mason like that . :)

  • No, I am not, but I know a lot of them.

  • @TheNeanderthaller the reason why i ask is because you seem like a selfish bastard

  • I have been looking for a SR-C larger than a 9mm, I think this one is worth looking at, Thanks Jeff...I also want their version of the 1911, I liked your video of that one as well...

  • Just when I thought I could take a break from buying guns... Thanks for the review.

  • @Ratster97Ha! I was thinking the same thing...now I can't live without one of those. Damn.

  • i reckon he was carrying 9 plus 1 then>!>!>?!!??!

  • 8 shots to the heart...one to the liver...and one to the upper right lung lobe and maybe even the right main stem bronchus. The only thing worse would've included a shot or two to the tansverse colon where the perpetrator's feces would've spilled all out into the abdominal cavity creating a high risk for bacterial sepsis...gotta love JQ...I'm now sold on the idea of this RUGER...i now know for a fact that THIS is the gun I have to now look into...THANK you JQ

  • By the way...I love those targets that show all the vital organs and shh...stuff.

  • triggerhappytarget-dot-com.

  • ''It would've ruined my complexion...'' what a funny guy Jeff Quinn!!! He's so serious but that little humor he throws in from time to time is as funny as it is subtle...JQ ROCKS...!!!!..

  • As soon as I found out about this particular gun, I went looking for a video review online. I found nothing of note, so I went to the Gunblast site just to check up on the latest reviews, figuring I'd find something cool that would comfort me in the absence of a good SR40c video. As luck would have it, the Ruger was featured in the very latest update! I feel like I can always count on you guys for things like this. Keep up the good work.

  • Thank you. We strive to be the best, and hopefully, we seldom disappoint.

    Jeff

  • Like your reviews appreciate your opinions. Got my sr9c almost a year ago and been carrying it everyday since. I was sure hoping for a 40 and got the email yesterday and called my dealer today and put my name on one.

  • just not fond of rugers...that things got some snap to it

  • SR45c puhhhhhhhhlease!!!!

  • does it have the loaded chamber indicator?

  • Yes.

  • Never heard that they're were even thinking about making a SR40c figured they would but never heard

  • They tried hard to keep a lid on it until it was ready.

  • The recoil does seem rather low for a compact .40. Maybe I will have to give it a try sometime.

  • I was considering buying the bersa UC .40 which is within or lower price range. But now i am really considering this SR40C due to the fact that it can accept 15 round mags!

  • hi jeff whats the softer/easier controlled sr40c or m&p40c?

  • Im liking ruger more and more

  • I have talked to the Ruger Customer Service folks a few times over the last year or so. Each time when I ask about a release of the SR40c they assured me that there were no plans for making this model . As recently as a month ago I was told this same thing. Good thing I didn't believe them and held out for it. Not real fond of the deception, but I love my SR's so I will syill buy it.

  • Try not to be too hard on them.

  • I've watched this video 3 times and I'm still LMAO on the "ruining my complexion line." Jeff you're in the wrong business.

  • will the 15 round sr40 mags work with the sr40c?

  • Yes - the SR40C comes with a short mag and a 15-rounder where legal, as mentioned in the referenced article.

  • @Gunblastdotcom Sorry jeff, i missed that area.

  • real question is JQ, do you prefer it to the glock 27?? I'm imagining that the trigger pull is nicer outta the box when comparing the ruger to the glock. i really like the ruger, i'd have a tuff time choosing between the 2.

  • Personally, I like it a lot better than a Glock 27. That chunky little thing just does not fit my hand. I like the mid-size Glocks (19 and 23), and the 20SF, but their subcompact guns are not my first choice.

    Jeff

  • Very nice, ALTHOUGH.....I STILL don't understand why Ruger has to make the S/N's, on their "c" series pistols, viewable from 50 feet away. After seeing the LC9 I thought they had gotten away from the neon S/N's. I guess that's what I get for thinking!

  • I love these concise, to the point, cover all the bases reviews!

  • Bout time it came out. Jeff, if zombies ever attack, can I team up with you on your property? It'll probably be the safest place in southern USA!

  • I wonder if there will eventually be a .357sig conversion barrel...hmmm

  • Thank God, you got the gun out of the Suburban with out ruining your complexion. HaHaHa Nice video, keep up the great work.

  • Jeff,I want to know what kind of revolver you are shooting at the intro of your videos.

  • That's a Lipsey's exclusive Ruger Vaquero 44 Special "Sheriff's Model". There's an article in our ARCHIVE section, and a video here on YouTube.

  • @Gunblastdotcom Wow thanks for reply so fast :)

  • Jeff, my SR9 slide releases on it's own when i jam the mag in real hard. is that normal? i was told by a marine buddy of mine that it is, so it would be quicker in combat minimizing the need to hit the release. help me out Jeff, thanks.

  • That is normal, and happens on a lot of pistols. It is not intentional in the design, but does happen often, and is no reason for concern.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom I did a video on that subject ... well the WHOLE video isn't about that, lol.

  • @Gunblastdotcom once again Jeff, you've came to the rescue. thank you very much because i was getting a little paranoid.

  • Ruger sr9c is what I carry and I am so pumped for this sr40c. My 9 is so easy to carry and could just be the best feeling gun I have ever shot.

  • I knew it had to be coming. I have been able to keep myself from buying a carry gun because I said the concept of an SR40c would be the only one, well here it is.

  • Blah magazine safety

  • @GhostStan Meh ... no biggee, it can be removed in about 10 minutes.

  • @ZombieTactics the gun looks good just so many safetys is just not for me i get a glock 27 or smith mp no safetys

  • @GhostStan You'll get no argument from me, those are excellent guns.

  • I like my SR9C...P

  • Seems like Ruger is coming out with something every other week. Lets see an Sr10mm soon.

  • great video with fantastic info !!! YOU do fan-damn-tastic work !!! keep it up and keep your powder dry !

  • I knew this gun was coming!

  • The only way to make this gun safer would be to put a condom on it! xD

  • @kop4321 well, you are kinda fucked if ya buy it

  • @DuckDitch Lol cannot, its probably illegal due to barrel length in my country.

    Don't like Ruger anyway.

  • Jeff, which do you prefer for concealed carry, the Ruger SR40c, or the Kahr PM40?

  • Both are good choices, but I like a bit larger gun for the 40 than the Kahr PM, so of those two, I would choose the Ruger.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Thanks Jeff, keep up the great work. You TOTALLY kick ass.

  • @MThrow Buy the Ruger The PM 40 is an overpriced finicky bastard, even after Kahr did reliability warranty work for me. Buy a good IWB holster, no 40 cal will fit in a pocket very well, not even the PM 40, Trust me... Or better yet buy a Glock lol G-27 rocks and does not jam ever..., Buy some XS big Dots for it you don't need any special tools. Or maybe a Crimson Trace trigger guard laser.

  • @mechanisto1832 Thanks for the reply, been carrying a Colt Officer's model for 25+ years now, and i'm ready to switch to something a little lighter in weight, but didn't want to go below a .40

  • finally! iv been waiting for the sr40c! looks like a sweet gun. i wonder if they will make a sr45 and sr45c

  • Ruger has been making some good pistols ,I've got the LC9 its nice, good review

  • trigger is smooth, one of the best I have tried in a long while, removed mag safety and now Its a fantastic gun.... same size as a jframe side by side ...great sub comp....highly recomend

  • good point about the safetys, thanks for the video.

  • When will they be available? I have the sr9c and I love it, so I know I will love this one also.

  • They are shipping right now.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom cool! Thanks

  • Wow I do like that one. Is it a semi auto or DA only?

  • @Xxoo0o0o0ooxX I think striker fired pistols are semi auto

  • @James57127 Ow OK I guess what I want to know if it is a SA pistol. But probably not.

  • @Xxoo0o0o0ooxX yes, striker fires pistols like this are classified as single action. Once the round is chambered the pin mechanism is cocked and ready to release

  • It is a semi-auto that uses a striker-fired, pre-cocked trigger system.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Interesting. So the trigger pull is light?

  • Six pounds, three ounces - and smooth, as stated in the review.

  • @Gunblastdotcom LOL should have heard that I watched the video twice. But I to busy gawking at the gun.

  • You didn't miss anything. That info, and much more, is in the referenced review on Gunblast.

  • Nice review on the compact ruger. I'm a big fan of the 40 caliber.

  • Ruined my complection. LOL
