if you love this, you MUST watch the video of "Let There Be Light "!!... it's a song by rock noir band BELLADONNA and MICHAEL NYMAN and it's based on this music from "The Piano". Michael Nyman himself plays piano on it... search for "belladonna nyman" here on youtube and you'll find it!! :-)
What brand/model of digital piano are you playing? I'm gonna be buying one in the next couple of weeks (this is one of the first songs I plan to learn) and I was extremely impressed with the sound of. Please reply and thanks.
One last question. Do you have any experience with Casio digital pianos? Could you compare the two? I had narrowed my choice down to the Casio PX 130. It has a lot of features similar to the higher end Yamahas (comparable to the P155)... that is until I saw your video and received your reply to my comment. The P70 has seen a few updates since it's release, including the P85, which is still on clearance at some sites and within my price range. It's just a little more than the PX 130. Any advice?
Your playing is both charming and touching. When I tried to close my eye when listening to your playing, I thought if you were playing on an acoustic piano rather than an electronic keyboard. Thanks for sharing.

You play so beautifully! I love this song but can't get motivated to learn it - only know a wee bit of the beginning. The keyboard sounds amazing though, might have to get one of those.
this is beautiful, it took me a while to learn this! you may find it easier to play if didn't play so flat fingered as i noticed sometimes it looked like you struggled. i was taught to play on the tips of my fingers. (not a criticism by the way as this is really good). i love how expressive you were x
Hi I'M a beginner composer Barnabas Folk. If you like this music please listen to my compositions on youtube. They are short and minimalist piano pieces I hope you'll like them. Thank you!:)
Pretty song...I had never heard it...I had actually never heard of the composer until I got a comment on my most recent video. I will have to check out those videos. Also, to fix those cracks that some are talking about, it will help to keep your fingers closer to the keys; it's more efficient and you won't have to work so hard :D.
You play this song much better than many of the other posters, more feeling, just a few mistakes. I think u need to practice this song until its impossible to make a mistake then it will be perfect, your feeling rivals nymans seriously dont let these stupid mistakes tarnish the song and your own ability. I say this with much respect; truly your version is amazing work out htese small kinks and it'll be flawles s:)
I've been practising this piece for a wedding and I play a fully reconditioned Bechstein upright (c.1876). i had no idea how good it sounds until I heard this awful digital 'toy' on here. It really does does sound so muffled and dead compared with an acoustic instrument. Nice playing, but all the right notes would have been a bonus!
Remember this old adage: An amateur practises until he/she gets it right. A professional practises until he/she can't get it wrong.
i like how you adapt the pace to the soundtrack - there are some awful and way too fast versions here on youtube - i really like yours, it's similar to like when i used to be able to play this too:( very very good:)!
I think you are very brave to perform this! I've practiced for a few months now to get it perfect and performed it a couple of times in public, and I understand the complexities of this piece, but YouTube?! Well done for putting it on here! You can tell that you enjoy this piece. The arpeggio thing at the end didn't work for me though!
very well played...this video moved me to buy Micheal Nyman's songbook 'The Piano' (yeah, I play the piano, too). I guess it will take a while to learn this song and play it as expressive as you...carpe diem!
There was this other guy that played it too fast. I have the music to this... never tried it, but you did a great job. I plan on working on it now. Played with great feeling
I think Michael Nyman, especially in his string quartets, is a master at big emotion. His music is achingly beautiful, without any of the esoteria that usually goes along with "modern classical". Here's a man who inately understands a good pop hook, like a cheap scare in a horror film, and knows how to use it. His best work marries the imeadiacy of pop with the space and elegance of piano-driven instramentals. Wonderful Stuff.
We want to show this warts and all; all the tensed musclulature, all the missed cues and forgotten steps. All the times Muscle memory invades and ruins new choreography. Most important to us to showcase the determination and verve of this one dancer overcoming all the nonsense to reach a kind of trancendental symbiosis with the music; that moment when the stars allign, the chords tug at the heart, and all is suddenly more than perfect in the world.
I'm sure your originals will be awesome...we should do something together. Originally, "The Process" was about just that, the process a dancer endures b/w rehearsal and show, or from conception to compleation.
