I liked them! (I also liked Sophie Mei, same year, but not so much Julia Naidenko in 2009.) They had fun, the audience had fun, their costumes were amazing, though not very "accurate" for gypsies. Most of them are positively slim next to Fabia Cerra (whom I also liked).

Okay, the comments from the men here are pretty insulting. They were having fun, the dance was actually choreographed, it was funny and not embarrassing or flat-out designed to do nothing but arouse men (READ: Some of the other belly-dancers featured on this show). This is like a female, less stupid version of the "Dreambears" act, but because no one's hot young bod (no one's FEMALE body) is being thrown about, it's not "good." Thank you, entertainment, for objectification.

This HAD to be choreographed - that's the way BGT work, they need to sort out camera angles etc so you HAVE to replicate EXACTLY what you did on the previous audition - even down to the last item of jewelery and makeup. Bad choreography - yes, your opinion (and that of the Urban Gypsies) but only had 2 rehearsals to sort something out. Carolena N' from FCBD choreographs things for the stage and finally on live sets MOST if no ALL material they do is improvised

When they got through to the live TV auditions stage, they were told that as long as they got the music from the High Street, then copyright clearance for the music could be obtained as it was going to be on mainstream TV. But only a week before the actual live show permission was refused by BDSS, (Miles Copeland). So only a week to get different music from the High Street so that permission could be guaranteed. They nearly pulled out but went ahead for the hell of it

I don't have a set definition for "tribal belly dancing," but first and foremost in order to be tribal, there must be more than one person (obviously), as the purpose is to have a leader cueing followers. Obviously, not anything improvised is 'tribal,' but yes, tribal is improvisational (It goes back to the old 'a square can be a rectangle but a rectangle is not necessarily a square'). Yes, occasionally FCBD and other groups will choreograph a short intro and then proceed to perform with cues.

Tribal has since its origin been improv with cues -that was the whole point..it allowed Carolena and her dancers to be able to perform spur of the moment.

Rachel performs mostly tribal and tribal fusion. Almost all of what she does is improv -she says so herself that she gets lost in choreographies. She started out in tribal with Ultra Gypsy and still does tribal with the Indigo (however, they do choreo as well). If you're asking does Rachel do tribal when she solos, the answer is obviously no.
