  • They didn't do a very good job on the paint if it's right out of the shops....

  • @Hightrain12 That was the old paint. It got new paint at Beech Grove.

  • Epic catch! Although, it is sad that it is a rare occurrence that we got excited about ONE Viewliner Diner! There should be at least 50 of these cars! At least there are 25 more coming!

  • thumbs up, a reraction, favorite, multiple veiws and a positive comment!

  • According to wiki, the new Viewliner 2 series of diners, sleepers, baggage and baggage/dorm cars is scheduled to begin production in October 2012

  • No headlights on that's a violation

  • I'm doing an entire viewliner train in HO!

  • Will that be the "New Dining Car" fleet from now on? I Like The Heritage Cars Better.

  • I think it would be kind of neat if Amtrak could come up with Viewliner Coach Cars to replace the Amfleet Coach cars on the trains that run in the East.

  • Cool vid! nice catch! Gotta show my son (trainfan1143)

  • Cool catch with the Viewliner Diner.

  • Haha cool you can still see some of the phase lll paint!! Nice vid.!

  • i was just gonna say that lol

  • Lol cool!

  • Goodness gracious me!! One of the rarest things I've seen -- if not THE rarest, seeing as it is the FIRST time it came out of storage. Great video, favorited & 5 stars.

  • When Amtrak bought their first 50 Viewliner sleepers in the mid 1990s, they had planned to buy 450 Viewliner cars. Finally, in 2009-10 Obama's Amtrak stimulus will buy 130 Viewliner cars, with 70 optional cars later. 25 diners + 15 optional diners.

The sleeping cabins modules were built individually, then slid into the car's frame. Similar to eggs in an egg carton. The engineering systems slide out from the bottom of the car like drawers, allowing easy access for maintentance.

  • why did they only make one?

  • The prototype had some problems that needed fixing before they could build a fleet, and they ran out of money for the project.

  • I've seen Viewliners before

but not a diner version :O

    Nice vid :)

  • Thanks!

  • Nice! I didn't know the Lakeshore Limited was going to bring back the diners. The food in the diner lite isn't bad but every long distance train needs a diner. I rode the Limited a couple weeks ago and they were deadheading a heritage.

  • Cool! 5 stars and favorite!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • That last diner car at the end looked like a sleeper. .

  • It has the same outside body but the inside is different.

  • finally i get to see the cardinal!!! What happened to all the rest of the viewliner diners???????? And a favorite

  • There was only ever one. This was the prototype. They were going to build a fleet of them in the 90s, but they ran out of money. Now it looks like we may finally see the Viewliner Diner fleet in 3 years or so. Amtrak is also looking at Viewliner Baggage/Dorm cars. I'm guessing the heritage fleet will be gone within 5 years or so. And thanks!

  • Were 8400's rear lights on or off?

  • Off.

  • Train 51 is the jam

  • damn straight

  • well i rode that jont. ha

and i have the first ever videos from the replica of JD Cabin so, ha

expect a video montage this week

  • I don't know who or what JD Cabin is.

  • Nice work, 157 is a old fav of mine as well.

  • I just saw it for the first time a few weeks ago. Actually rode behind it on 20 and 19.

  • It just has that kind of K5LA that could make you think it was a gevo lol.

  • THanks for sharing what a catch!

  • Nice catch - thanks for sharing!
