to me this was him at a peak...he was huge in the early to mid 80s..he still had fire in him then...he is in his 60s now..but its cool in some ways that im old enough to recall him back then when i was a kid..coimpared to people now he was massive
@sprintbass vocally and musically, his peak was in the early 1970s, when he first started. he was going through personal and professional hell in the 80s, which came from drug addiction and bolemia, which lead to polyps being removed from his vocal chords, in a surgery that almost ended his career as a performer. I would hardly call that a "peak." not to mention, there are only like 4 songs that were written in the 80s that are "hits."
@77edster 2 things it could be - God awful mics on the piano, or it is indeed the CP80 that's playing and Elton isn't. It does sound *very* electronic.
this version is awesome! Elton hitting the high notes and everything, and the Steinway sounds FANTASTIC! Nigel and Dee and James Newton Howard add to this wonderful performance!
Look at the size of that grand piano! There's over 400,00 people in Central Park....and he plays it off like nothing! Elton John is simply brilliant!

Not sure the Steinway sounds that wonderful does it? The CP80 which JNH was playing on the other side of the stage sounds more like a real piano!
