I have a theory that Stephen Merchant is, in terms of writing, more important than Ricky. That has no basis on anything, but I would love to see a write off between him and Ricky to see who is a better writer.
@chickensdontclap147 Ricky has stated that himself, and more than once I think. Ricky is mostly raw funny ideas and then the refined delivery (watch any of his standup), but all the bits in-between is Merchant. He filters all the chaos and turns it into a cohesive storyline. He was always acting the referee on the old XFM shows and podcasts too, making sure Karl could finish a bit when Ricky had already decided he was "just talking shit".
Just saw the dvd and i found it brilliant. Good clean fun that was hilarious, I didn't think he would be so funny, but he definitively gives Ricky a run for his money.
saw him on Tuesday in Vicar street in Dublin. Absolutely hilarious. He walked into the pub I was in after and I got to shake one of his big hands. Lovely bloke
The minute I Heard him say "Itch", I Immediately thought, "WHEATLEY!!!"

He was brilliant when i saw him in Glasgow. Much funnier than Ricky I thought and was lovely enough to have his photo taken with us after.
