Can't scientist or activists create something?? A platform that floats that is thermal and will stay cold?? for them to lay on until they are old enough to swim? Several small round platforms, thermal, could be planted on the water around that area. Then if we could just get rid of the Canadians who like to torture them........
Poor seals, not only do they have to endure barbaric hunting but now Global warming threatens them. If it's the intention of the Canadian Goverment to wipe out these creatures their wish may soon become true.
because you are an idiot, and they aren't killing babies, and its illegal for them to kill baby seals, seal activists are retarded, if you believe them you are probably retarded, americans do so much worse and use this as a way of taking attension off them. The only reason anybody cares is because they are cute, their population is only rising each year, and everyone should just fuck off, and go back to their own countries.
The seal hunt must stop! Please join IFAW, PETA and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society with their courageous activism to bring an end to all seal hunting world wide.

The seal hunt IS important in Newfoundland. 6,000 people benefit. The entire province has the same population of a small city, but is spread out across vast amounts of land. With very few ways of earning income. More than have the people move away to make money. You shouldn't have to leave your perfectly safe home to make money, when you can live off the land. Way she goes folks...Animals still come second to Humans food chain.
I love seals, and now I don't love Canada. I know this is going on, I've known it for a while and I certainly don't like it. This 'tradition' should be illegal! I am very angry because I LOVE ANIMALS especially seals.
The north Atlantic seal hunt is one of the most widely scrutinized hunts on Earth, and also one of the best managed. It has taken place for decades under the scrutiny of Vets, Biologists, Police, Game Wardens and animal rights activists. The only people who say it's wrong are activists. This is because of their extremist philosophy, and more importantly because they make hundreds of millions every year in donations.
Jeanie121, I'm with you. Everybody blames the canadian govt. but if enough Canadians got out in the streets with signs, protested, held strikes at Seafood plants and boycotted these businesses, blocked the way for these ppl to torture these babies, then the Govt. would be embarrassed. The entire world is watching. Why don't Canadians do something? Because they're the killers as well if they don't try to stop it.
You are using the same old pro-sealer argument that we've seen on here 100 times. Just because they don't have their full "white-coats" on anymore doesn't mean they are suddenly no longer babies at a whopping, ripe, old age of 12-14 days old. Anyone who does not consider a 2 week to 3 month old being that's supposed to live 30 years a baby, needs to have their 7 day old puppy or kitten clubbed and skinned alive before them. "I'm not necessarily for the hunt." BS!
There are many millions of seals in the region in question. The numbers have grown drastically in recent years for various reasons, hence a strictly regulated annual cull.
The people in Newfoundland and Quebec who hunt seals do so to make a modest, age-old living. Contrary to the Fox report, much or most of the seal meat is eaten. These people walk MUCH more softly on the earth than any of us car/SUV driving, beef-eating, jet-flying, city-dwelling gluttonous consumers.
I watching this in disbelief. I would have thought that even Fox News couldn't be so biased. Where's a rep from the Canadian government on this!? Total BS propaganda.
It's a complex issue. Any non-vegetarian who objects to the seal hunt without immediately swearing off meat is a complete hypocrite. (Ditto any consumer who possesses leather.) Go visit a slaughter house anywhere, and you'll see what I'm talking about if you can't vividly imagine what I'm talking about.
By the American governments decision to wage the illegal war in Iraq 1000's of innocent civilians have been killed, which are a lot more precious than seals. I agree that seals should be killed as humanely as possible and the practice of clubbing must be stopped. Seals are used for clothing and are integral to the native Canadians way of life. I really don't understand why people are going after Canada. I mean Russia, and Norway do the seal hunt too but I don't hear Americans condemning them.
Without the fat and fur from hunting, the Inuit would have perished long ago, and most Canadians firmly believe that the Inuit have the right to continue living this traditional lifestyle. Saying that the traditional native lifestyle is "irrelevant" will likely have you dismissed by Canadians as being ignorant and culturally insensitive. The modern east-coast seal hunt, however, is NOT traditional. It is practiced by non-natives. This is the argument that must be made to have it stopped.
The seal hunt needs to be stopped, but an understanding of the complex issues surrounding it is essential to do so. Canadians take great pride in the protections afforded to the native Americans that were here before the arrival of the Europeans. The traditional arctic seal hunt has been practiced for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and was essential for the survival of those who lived there. (continued below...)

For RegaloDelMar2007: The activists do not make any money with the activism. They help as volunteers. They help because they care about the animals.
