If your wires are crossed by an experience during your childhood and you see someone of the same gender you are attracted to, it makes it hard to not act on the urge. @DaPoncher They weren't God's rules on sexuality, Jesus said nothing about gay people. These policies were written and enforced by the medieval Catholic church who very much enjoyed micromanaging people's lives and flourished in that age due to severe ignorance about sex. All sex was sin according to the priests, but since that was an unrealistic avenue for others they decided instead that marriage was ok for it's procreative purposes. They put a blanket ban on all other sex out of ignorance.
