@mustang2005 You didnt know I-5 cylinder engines didn't exist? They're not widely used but they are around. Volvos mostly use them today and the only car I ever drove with one was an Acura Vigor.
@7477238 BEST Inline 5 engines are from AUDI 2.2 Engine from Audi RS2 / S2 are capable for 1300Whp.Curently one guy called JONUS from Norway developing 1700Whp version from 2.2L inline 5. And Audi are First manufacturer that introduce Inline 5 in 1977. Volvo start to use Inline 5 ,after they acquire license from VW inline 5 Diesel (2.4L) and later produced their own inline 5 engines. p.s. GM 3.7 is real Shame for inline 5 engines :( ... watch?v=fZ7tHczJaIk watch?v=CYxeDCer0lc
@svinche1 Tell him good luck from me,he will need it as much as 50 PSI to get there plus +200hp gain from other mods and total cost over 100 grands... If i was him i'd dump that little Inline 5 down the pit and put an Ls2 on it to get greater results with way less cost and boost (around 25 which is a realistic boost amount compared to 50),or if he doesn't want American at least an Audi V12.
I dont know if youve ever done any work to the engine but if you have make sure that you didnt leave it running too lean (not enough gas in the mixture). and also like boongtown said check the timing and run the highest octane gas u can find. if the car has a distributor cap, u can get a timing gun and do it yourself. just look online and learn how to use the timing gun. its not hard at all. hope i helped
"tune up censor". were the fuck do you guys come up with this shit. clearly its pingen. run better fuel, in aus we can get 98 ron fuel at 90% of our gas stations, in the u.s it sounds like u guys get shithouse fuel. get the highest grade fuel you can by and add octane booster, liberaly. see if that helps. if it doesnt that means the engines timing is far to "advance" take it to a mechanic who has a clue(i dont know were you will find one of these in the u.s.) and get him to "retard" the timing
truck is running normal mine makes that noise too if you run the engine pretty hard like i do you could bust out a bolt in the back of of the engine cuz i did that n the dealer had no clue till they took a look at it that fixed a part of the noise but its still makes the noise its normal just the inline motor
@JustinDaUtuber What bolt did you break in your engine? My fiance's colorado is making that noise and the dealership is having a hard time finding the problam. Thanks for any help
Any luck with the dealership? The service dept. on Guam won't really do anything else to it so I'm thinking about going in myself and seeing what's up. Do you know where they found it? I was gonna take the oil pan off today and see if any think look out of place.
@USNMachRep Sorry man the dealerby my house that i have been going to actually shut down so all the records they had on my truck they lost man that makes me mad!!
When I first purchased my truck in 2007, I was somewhat thrilled at the idea of having an Inline engine in my truck. After three years of owning my truck, I can honestly say that I am ready to remove the engine. As I said in my previous comment, the Vortec 3.7 is unrefined. GM should have taken more time with the engine. I am thinking about placing a GM crate engine in my truck. Maybe a 350.
Try new spark plugs...something more expensive, like NGK's or the like. Its likely that your current spark plug isn't firing strongly enough to burn all the fuel at once. Spark plugs from walmart (Autolite coppers, etc) and other cheapies can cause this problem since their spark is weak.
Ah! The Vortec 3.7 inline 5! One of the most horrible engines I have used in a truck. GM needs to kill this engine ASAP. The fuel economy is horrible and the power output is lame. GM should have placed a 4.3 liter V6 in the H3, Colorado, and Canyon.
@emoneybagz23 i have a buddy that had a colorado and now has a sierra with the 5.3 v8 and he says he gets the same mileage as his colorado ........something is horribly wrong with that haha .
@emoneybagz23 The 4.3Liter V6 was a hunkah junk,they replaced it with the better Vortec 4200 Inline 6,that engine would be a treasure if they have used it on vehicles other than GMT360,which btw is a bigger version of the Vortec 3700,better say the Vortec 3500 and 3700 is a smaller Vortec 4200,as the 4.3 V6 was a smaller version of the 5.7 V8.
Of course now the idiots dumped Vortec 4200 for the weak 'n boosted Ecoshit 3Liter V6s and Inline 4s.
I use water and liquid soap or window cleaner and stream or spray the ignition wires, vacuum lines, erg? valve etc and listen for a change in RPM's. Yours sounds very good! Or run the AC and in gear, get a friend to apply the brakes and build up to 2500 RPM. Nothing? Bring it back, if you can hear it and the mech can't, they must be hiding something. Good Luck!
1993 Audi S-4 has I-5 turbo. Drives nice.

have you confirmed this is actual engine knock aka detonation by eliminating it with higher rating octane fuel?

@emoneybagz23 The Hummer H3 uses a 4.56:1 differential gear. That's extremely high for a inline 5 with a 5 speed automatic.
