While he was not completely in line with the Church, he had a profound Christian belief (may not be the same denomination as you are if you are one), its clear to see from his own words.

@bravo45 Religion, in my opinion, fucked everything up. Religion was used as a means of controlling the people out of fear. Sure, it's all nice to believe that when we die, we go to heaven, but you only have to look towards the bible to see a vengeful, I-am-going-to-kill-you-if-you-do-not-listen-to-the-nobles-God. If we didn't have religion, we wouldn't have wars.

@shelbyfanman Well look at Stalin, he was THE MOST evil person EVER a devout atheist. It was the most fearful regime ever, I don't say this lightly, I have read a lot on it. The first world war too didn't have any religious aspect (directly), it was nationalism. Those were the two bloodiest conflicts in history and they had NO religious aspect other than Hitler being a Christian.

I also disagree with you, it just isn't possible to have a world without religion and I disagree with those who think they'd go to heaven when they die only because of the religion they believe in. I believe in a religion and I believe in ultimate justice, regardless of religion. People often have a skewed notion of religion, they tend to think of it as people think of a race, only difference being the fact that you can choose. Its all about a person's deeds, period.

@bravo45 Im not to knowledgeable when it comes to stalin, so I'll take your word. The thing is, it's not just the World Wars that I'm looking at. History dictates that those that fly under the banner of the cross are the dominant people. Look at the west and our colonialist history. They all stemmed from a Christian belief system. What I'm trying to say is that people use religion as a way of saying "I'm better than you because I believe in God." People naturally rise up against this - ie. War.

@shelbyfanman The thing is people are hypocrite period. Religion has been among other things used for it. The mention of the two world wars, the bloodiest conflicts in human history is proof that religion is not the most destructive thing. I won't be against religion, I'd be against hypocrisy, and I find in all people including the religion I believe in. I understand where you are coming from, but those who 'naturally rise up' will do so, if not for God, then their King etc etc

You have to remember though that the deep seeded tradition of antisemitism in Europe was fostered by the Catholic church ever since, well since its founding. It was common place for people to hate Jews even in the early 20th century. Hitler used this ancient prejudice to inflame an empire.

@bravo45 As stated above. Hitler wasn't a devout Christian at all friend. The NSDP was working to replace the church with the party pretty heavily. After the war, the plans were going to spring into action in full force. They used the church as a tool during the war to rally support but thats all. Read Goebbels diaries and throughout them you seem him relate conversations and plans for destroying and replacing Christianity

@lonewulf44 If you read the transcripts of his conferences (around midway into the war, every word spoke was recorded on paper and a lot of it has survived). While he was not completely in line with the Church, he had a profound Christian belief (may not be the same denomination as you are if you are one), its clear to see from his own words.

@bravo45 The church was a tool used by the party. Before the war to solidify support within, and during the war to 'beat on like a drum' to keep up support for the war and cover the moron's blunders. The party's plans were to erase the church and religion to be replaced by the party. It wasn't a switch they could just flip, so for a while and especially during the war they paid lip service. Read Goebbels depictions of Hitler's plans for the church ... specifically Catholics.

The famous combat pilot Chuck Yeager wrote in his book that the Americans also would have been found guilty of numerous war crimes if had lost WW2. The holocaust stories were completely bogus as well.
