There's only glue in cheap saddles, the good ones have all stitching using heavy duty waterproof thread. As long as you condition the saddle properly a couple times a year, an occasional ride in the water won't hurt. Think: many people wash leather using warm soapy water. Think also: about how often your leather bridle gets wet, sweaty and soaked. No one worries about that and they last for many, many years. I still use a bridle regularly that I got when I was 13... I'm 37 now. Have fun! :)

Leather is better and you get more for your dollar. Lasts longer. Snythetic is cheap and not durable.  No resale value. Can't even give them away. However, if your just a weekend rider I would invest in a used leather rather than snythetic.

Nice Fresian. Though I'm soo not a fan of synthetic saddles. Personal choice and people can buy what they want, what I wasn't thrilled to see was sneakers on the rider. It's too risky in a riding ring that your foot will get caught in the stirrup, but in the water??? Ugh, to me that's almost a guarantee of drowning if something went wrong. Better to just take the stirrups off if you insist on swimming with the saddle.

What a beutifull place! that plack one it a beut!!!!very tall^^ i can ride my pony very deep in the water but my friend and i ride double on her horse and she trys to rear and jump over the water to get to land XD VERY fun. the horses find it curius and relaxing to :) if only some could experiance it^^

i just ride bareback with a halter in our local river,

wont ever go in a lake tho too dangerous,

yes, you will ruin your saddle if you ride in the water. it is better to go bareback if you wish to ride in a lake or in the ocean.

it's not bad for the horse. if you have the right saddle soap applied before the soaking, it should be fine.

@Toniix0x yep i do know that cause leather is ruined by water makes it softer and weaker but still her saddle her horse i mean ill be in a ditch with my horse and she will full out just lay down and sit there in it and if the girth hurts them after getting wet why would she cause herself pain? if you work a horse and u undo the girth after and theres sweat there thats just like getting it wet..

Mit Sattel und Steigbügeln ins Wasser zu gehen, kann für Pferde tötlich enden. Es gab schon fällte, bei denen Reiter hinabgerutscht und die Tiere sich in den Bügeln verfangen haben.

Trotzdem habt ihr echt alle Spaß an der Sache. :D Nur ohne Sattel ist es noch ein wenig sicherer.

no matter if do western or english if you want to go swimming like they are, synthetic all the way. but if you just want to like ride for fun or trail ride, a synthetic is good to bc its super easy to clean. get a leather one if you want to show or compete. you could use leather in water i suppose but your going to have to dry it really well. i would get a synthetic and leather. (and plus it, synthetics are much cheaper than leather)

snythetic is cheaper so replacing costs are less. Anyway there is glue in a saddle and a leather saddle needs to be fatty. So the best thing is not riding with a saddle at all.
