i dont completely understand the gestalt thing, but this movie was beautiful. and disturbing and confusing, but really well done. gunna go watch it again and see if i can make sense of what the hell happend...
Alex didn't kill Nigel. That much is clear, so it's not as simple as 'he's the mastermind'. The crux of the issue here is why Nigel killed himself at all. Hosts of reasons proliferate, all of which complement the story, as I've said below. But counter-evidence comes in the form of what Nigel says just after he embalms his parents. So, if anyone can make these apparently inconsistent bits of information mesh together in any way, please reply to this and let me know. It's really quite perplexing.
Doubtless we could explain this by saying that he was referring to Alex's having his own Maraclea which, post-unification would amount to Nigel having his (because they'd then be the same person). But I'm not sure. Because, later, Nigel says that as long as his parents aren't discovered for 9 months, it won't matter that they're gone for a while. This suggest he's planning to return to the scene for the skull in due course. Besides, he clearly indicates that he shagged his mother's corpse too.
Besides, why else would Nigel's death be 'a necessary means to an end' unless the unification was to be thereby accomplished? Indeed, when Sally asks why Alex described his death in this way, the conversation leads directly to the topic of religion and thence Gestalt. So only one thing remains a mystery. Only one more unsolved problem. And that's Nigel's little speech after the deaths of his parents. Why oh why did he say 'I'll have my Maraclea', if he were planning to kill himself all along?
Signs of the merge had already manifested before Nigel's suicide though, after all Alex DID have his way with Susan's corpse and can we really attribute this to mere vulgar libido rather than Nigel's influence? Besides, Nigel dubs himself the Jack's pike, 'an implement for killing'. And indeed he does kill Susan because she is to be a source of power to Alex in the future; a source of power to ALEX not to Nigel. His doing this at all already seems to suggest that a unification is on the way.
Obviously this worked, because we see Alex updating Nigel's 'bible' and carrying the skull-box; his beliefs concerning everything Nigel had told him finally blossoming. The whole reason that Alex 'believes' in Gestalt, is because he realizes that this is what has happened with himself and Nigel; the two have become a whole, greater than the mere sum of their parts. His mind has been completely dominated by Nigel's. That's why he thinks he's 'watching, listening' to him in the prison cell.
The obvious conclusion we're supposed to draw is that, bizarrely, Alex had become so like Nigel that all that was stopping their being 'united' (as in, 'made one') was that there were still literally two of them. So, it would seem that Nigel's killing himself was an effort on his part to breach the final gap between them. He and Alex had become so successfully twinned, he had influenced Alex so much that maybe he felt that killing himself was the only way to push Alex that one step further.
This film is actually quite difficult. I mean the story obviously has a lot going for it, but it's complicated. I think it's been given a bit of a raw deal because of this. The suggestion is that Nigel is the mastermind: he introduces all this talk of, dynastic-power-inheritance and so on. Also, he clearly did kill Susan, so it's not as simple as either one of them being the mastermind. People haven't focused enough on the great emphasis placed on gestalt, twinning and psychological influence.
This movie was confusing in that I thought I understood it...and now I'm not sure. Did Alex/Jack have sex with that girl in the morgue? Did Nigel just wait there? Do you guys think that Alex actually killed everyone? What did Nigel mean when he talks bout being united with Alex? Did Nigel have sex with his mother? Was she dead when/if he did? At the beginning why does Alex say him and Nigel weren't friends? Sorry if these are dumb questions.
@zalmatheavatar12 He says "as long as they don't find her for nine months, it doesn't really matter does it? " basically saying that he had sex with her
@eizhowa all the talk throughout the movie about the cathols and the knights templar was part of history. in the history book the page the boy was reading was about the archbishop that got murdered which they spoke about earlier (forget his name). basically alex has found his new Jack.
@Janeyyy94 well if your going to be fucked up might as well be completely fucked up. not only was it mum sex (i dont think they were having sex as she was alive) it was mum necromancy.
@XxTwiPiresxX yeah, its also just fiddling with dead bodies in a "magical way" so the having sex with them makes the bones 9 months later shift around "magically".
wait so wat?!?!? why did nigels dad shoot the mom did they have sex?? eww why would his mom even agree 2 tat?!?! why cant nigel find a girl he likes his own age like alex??
@willis5890 Nigel is not having sex for a relationship. He's doing it so that he can take a head 9 months later and get the power that the Knights of Templar had
@willis5890 I think Nigel had sex with his mom, because she maybe belonged to templar bloodline (Nigel is descendant either after her, or after his father) and her head may be more powerful than head of other woman or girl.
what i don't understand is what exactly they're supposed to be doing for this 'Order' (killing people? protecting something?), but that could have something to do with the fact that I'm watching this so late and wasn't really fully focused.
i know someone very like nigel :) he's into history, cards, and i think.. animals. he's good looking too, blond. was the quiet sort, bit of an arse :D lol. was always creeped out by him. yes, even before this film.
This movie was absolutely genious... the level of psychology shown is quite impressive. I was left in awe at point, wondering what really was going on. The mix of the mind with the levels of history just made it a fascinating thriller. Does anyone know, is this movie on dvd?
So in taking Susan's head, which is the symbol of the great power Nigel spoke of, Alex became the new Nigel. Susan's and Nigel's deaths gave "birth" to a new link in the Order (symbolically represented by the fact that the head was placed beneath the womb). Alex took the head, and now since he carries the "power" of the Order, he's going to continue what Nigel started by making the boy on the train his "partner." Although it begs the question, was ALEX really the mastermind?
Ok, so if alex has the head, doesn't that mean he did have sex with susans body the night nigel took him there. Because isn't it only if you have had sex with the body that you can take the skull?
@cinema248 "Well as long as they don't find her for nine months it doesn't really matter does it" Alex is shocked at the point because he realises Nigel is referring to the Templer myth, and that he had just had sex with his mother's corpse.
Despite everything we do to embalm and preserve your loved one's body they start to decompose while they're under our care at the funeral home, lizi. Sorry, Pet, I don't mean to be disrespectful, or morbid, but it's true.

Yeah... I think Nigel transferred his beliefs to Alex, or he took Alex's body. In my opinion, most likely the second because he has gone exactly nine months later...
About the eternity... maybe he has been taking young bodies through the centuries... Alex's is just another...
does someone understand from 0:43 to 0:49? I don't understand English at all...
This is what I'm thinking (not sure if I'm right so I'd like others opinions) When Jack/Alex said "Nigel got what he wanted: eternity" what I'm thinking he meant was that "Nigel" is like an idea. Everything he believed and pressed on Alex had gone from Nigel-like guys to Alex-like guys and that this is a story that cycled since 1200s the only difference is the Alexs became the Nigels and found new Alexs. So when Nigel got eternity, it didn't mean him as a person but his beliefs?
I think that it's much more simple than that, ladycat. I think that in death Nigel got eternity. Life on earth is finite but, depending on your beliefs, the afterlife is eternal. Nigel knew that he could not get what the Order promised (if you notice the "figure 8" of eternity figures prominently in the secret Order's crest) in the flesh but he could have it in death provided that Alex pulled the trigger, absolving him of the eternal punishment associated with suicide.
wow!! that was a great tom sturridge ogle movie! i barely know what happened in the movie..i was too busy drooling over tom.. XD...do you really think the main guy (jack? nigel kept calling him the wrong name..i forget the real one) killed those people or did Nigel? was it literal?
What Jack told is true... because he didn't know how to embalm and he couldn't have written Nigel's notes. What could happen is that Jack was influenced by Nigel's belief, or Jack isn't Jack anymore :P...
Can you help me please? I can't understand what they're saying from 0:43 to 0:49 :(... Perhaps you'll understand because you're a native speaker...
I would like to hear someone agree with me. I think Nigel has traveled through the centuries from one body to another body! :O
So, instead of crossing the bones of his mother, he did it with Susan and left a message for the psychologist. I would like to heard your opinion about this option.
I went to see the movie in my country, but nobody liked it. They waited to see streams of blood everywhere, and so on. Jajaja ... but the movie was really good if you like to interpret its meaning.
It'd be a really cool concept!!! Although i can't help you really with the :43- :49 because even i can't understand it! lol sorry! but at least you can understand from his tone and context clues that he hated his parents and won't be missing them in the future...
1 - Nigel practices old habits from centuries ago, for example, he studies real animals.
2 - He is way too intelligent and connoisseur for his age.
3 - Finally, "Alex" left the school exactly nine months later, and he continued to fill his book. Nigel said something like " while they not find his mother's body in nine months, it doesn't really matter", it maybe means that he was going to visit his mother 9 months after the murder, but he didn't find her because the detectives moved the body.
I'm sorry, I struggled but my English may be wrong. My language is Spanish.
It sounds crazy, but I think that Nigel remained alive in Alex's body. Alex said "Nigel got what he wanted the eternity". At this point, I though there were two possibilities: Nigel transferred his beliefs to Alex's mind, or he transferred his whole mind to Alex's body (he has done this before with other bodies). So far, in my opinion, the second option is more feasible because the facts support it.
for someone who struggles with English that was pretty good..especially with the use of 'feasible'..lol most Americans don't even know what that means.
people the guy lied. he played the phycologist. He feed her what she needed to hear and told her where all the clues were hidden. He killed the fat guy, mutilated the girl and shot the guy and he got away scott free. The shrink allowed her emotions to cloud the truth infront her that the kid is a fucked up phsyco
Thank you for uploading this movie. I'm french and I didn't find it with subtitles, so it was difficult for me to understand. Actors speak (especially Nigel in my mind) quickly. Thanks QuickenedSand & Lilliana for your explanations. (And I am happy to notice that I'm not the only one who didn't understand all details of the movie xD)
some kind of 'shared delusion' between Nigel and Alex but the weird thing is after the deluded person (Nigel) is taken out Alex is still has the same kind of delusion...so who exactly is psychotic now?
Is the perfect...movie i ever see ....both actors ar perfect ...and i love the end but is sad because Nigel dies...And yes of course Nigel feels something deep by Alex .... Maybe that feeling sooner or later it becomes an obsession
No, it's the Mary-Claire legend being continued. The card goes along with the stolen head, the crossed bones AND the guy on the train. He will now become Jack and Alex's going to be the pike - just as Nigel did.
It's because he completely manipulated her. What he told her was true but he did indeed participate in having sex with the dead girl as Nigel had said. And having him take the girl's head was symbolic to the legend about the kinght and his bride to be
So even after she helped him, and he was released, he still chose to continue being what Nigel was because the two had become so close, it were as if they are one person. However she thought she had saved him and stopped whatever mess he was in.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
first of all... Thnxs For the vid.
secondly, what a load of rubbish!
the acting was bad.couldn't carry the story or make it believable. so it was all stupid.
yeah, the boys were pretty and all that....but the story was bloody tedious.... should have just been a greek style public school love affair, that would have been more successful.
and the like minds bit at the end, hardly putting the knife in, just cheesy.
Love this movie and both actors are absolutely amazing but I mean the storyline is messed up. I mean, it looks and is impressioned that Nigel is in love with "Jack"
He actually does - on a mental way. Following the gestalt theory, they have linked minds. Both are one. Kind of similiar to twins, but stronger and not blood related.
Due to the historical "facts" Nigel told Alex, they're bound together. And it isn't even mentioned whether theyre fathers' club has anything to do with the cult.
Both actors are obviously AMAAZING, but I have to say that the actor that plays Nigel is absaloutly brilliant, ESPECIALLY his face at 1:28. LOVE this film, is WEIRRRRD but amazing nonetheless!
What I'm thinking is that it is the head, and he's doing the cult thing now because now that Nigels dead he became the Weapon and he needs a new Jack? Since they had "Like Minds" he had to finish what Nigel started
what i dont understand is the whole have sex with a dead body and nine months later bones are crossed over the pelvis and the head is missing? what's the point of that?
It was a tale told about a templar knight. the knight loved his maryclea so much he made love to her body. nine months later he was summoned to his grave and someone had moved her remains. In some kind of delusion the temlar heard a voice that told him to guard the skull for it would be the bringer of all power, so he took the skull. Nigel and now alex both believe that the skull would give them some kind of power. I believe nigel fucked his dead mother for she was the only women he ever loved
I missed who was the dead body at the end. Was it Nigels mother and he had sex with her dead body or was it the other dead girl that Alex liked and Alex gave in to Nigel?
Basicly all th things the dead boy talked about got through to the main character, meaning when he denied having sex with the girl he liked - he actually did it. He probably fabricated a few things in his sotry but overall he accepted his cult, since he knew about his Cults history LONG before Nigel started bothering him about it.
And no he didn't fabricate anything. I was watching the director's commentary who also write the script and he said that everything alex said is the truth. You do see that in the movie alex says "it doesn't make a difference now anyway." he is pretty much admitting he did it to nigel. Its just in his mind he blanked it.
Well basically what happened was, in the end, the whole 'get me out I'm innnocent thing' turned to scraps since he decided to continue the whole freaky cult thing.
i dont completely understand the gestalt thing, but this movie was beautiful. and disturbing and confusing, but really well done. gunna go watch it again and see if i can make sense of what the hell happend...

I fucking love this movie... Tom is sooooo yummy! He looks so in control with that gun... And he's all wet and yummyful!!!
MrTinklesProductions 2 years ago 8
wow!! that was a great tom sturridge ogle movie! i barely know what happened in the movie..i was too busy drooling over tom.. XD...do you really think the main guy (jack? nigel kept calling him the wrong name..i forget the real one) killed those people or did Nigel? was it literal?
fangedprincess 2 years ago 3
What Jack told is true... because he didn't know how to embalm and he couldn't have written Nigel's notes. What could happen is that Jack was influenced by Nigel's belief, or Jack isn't Jack anymore :P...
Can you help me please? I can't understand what they're saying from 0:43 to 0:49 :(... Perhaps you'll understand because you're a native speaker...
I would like to hear someone agree with me. I think Nigel has traveled through the centuries from one body to another body! :O
slatanbonage 2 years ago
So, instead of crossing the bones of his mother, he did it with Susan and left a message for the psychologist. I would like to heard your opinion about this option.
I went to see the movie in my country, but nobody liked it. They waited to see streams of blood everywhere, and so on. Jajaja ... but the movie was really good if you like to interpret its meaning.
slatanbonage 2 years ago
It'd be a really cool concept!!! Although i can't help you really with the :43- :49 because even i can't understand it! lol sorry! but at least you can understand from his tone and context clues that he hated his parents and won't be missing them in the future...
fangedprincess 2 years ago
1 - Nigel practices old habits from centuries ago, for example, he studies real animals.
2 - He is way too intelligent and connoisseur for his age.
3 - Finally, "Alex" left the school exactly nine months later, and he continued to fill his book. Nigel said something like " while they not find his mother's body in nine months, it doesn't really matter", it maybe means that he was going to visit his mother 9 months after the murder, but he didn't find her because the detectives moved the body.

Hi everyone! =)
So far, in my opinion, the second option is more feasible because the facts support it.
slatanbonage 2 years ago 4
for someone who struggles with English that was pretty good..especially with the use of 'feasible'..lol most Americans don't even know what that means.

Maybe that feeling sooner or later it becomes an obsession

maybe...
but if it dose is it just supposed to mean like "screw you, i won"?

laurel1294 2 years ago
No, it's the Mary-Claire legend being continued. The card goes along with the stolen head, the crossed bones AND the guy on the train. He will now become Jack and Alex's going to be the pike - just as Nigel did.
LillianaSnowfield 2 years ago
It's just the jack with "to my Mary-Claire" on the backside. The card she first sound in Nigel's secret room. The one about the legend.
LillianaSnowfield 2 years ago
i had to watch this movie three times to understand what is going on...and now i get it...what a brilliant ending.
saaramcr 2 years ago
Could you explain the end? Why does she call him an 'evil little fucker'?
satinemalfoy 2 years ago
It's because he completely manipulated her. What he told her was true but he did indeed participate in having sex with the dead girl as Nigel had said. And having him take the girl's head was symbolic to the legend about the kinght and his bride to be
So even after she helped him, and he was released, he still chose to continue being what Nigel was because the two had become so close, it were as if they are one person. However she thought she had saved him and stopped whatever mess he was in.

first of all... Thnxs For the vid.
secondly, what a load of rubbish!
the acting was bad.couldn't carry the story or make it believable. so it was all stupid.
yeah, the boys were pretty and all that....but the story was bloody tedious.... should have just been a greek style public school love affair, that would have been more successful.
and the like minds bit at the end, hardly putting the knife in, just cheesy.
better off watching murder by numbers or brick.
glad i saw it tho.

Love this movie and both actors are absolutely amazing but I mean the storyline is messed up. I mean, it looks and is impressioned that Nigel is in love with "Jack"
delshayDiCamilliano 2 years ago
He actually does - on a mental way. Following the gestalt theory, they have linked minds. Both are one. Kind of similiar to twins, but stronger and not blood related.
Due to the historical "facts" Nigel told Alex, they're bound together. And it isn't even mentioned whether theyre fathers' club has anything to do with the cult.
LillianaSnowfield 2 years ago
Both actors are obviously AMAAZING, but I have to say that the actor that plays Nigel is absaloutly brilliant, ESPECIALLY his face at 1:28. LOVE this film, is WEIRRRRD but amazing nonetheless!

ive womdering what he has in the box
at the end!is it the head?
so hes decided to continue the
cult thing they had going on but why?
this movie sort of confused me now!
pinchekimchi 2 years ago 2
What I'm thinking is that it is the head, and he's doing the cult thing now because now that Nigels dead he became the Weapon and he needs a new Jack? Since they had "Like Minds" he had to finish what Nigel started
ladycatsbv 2 years ago 2
so alex is a bad guy isn't he?
lefkosiatis 2 years ago 5
what i dont understand is the whole have sex with a dead body and nine months later bones are crossed over the pelvis and the head is missing? what's the point of that?
love the movie otherwise!
irishcailin317 2 years ago
It was a tale told about a templar knight. the knight loved his maryclea so much he made love to her body. nine months later he was summoned to his grave and someone had moved her remains. In some kind of delusion the temlar heard a voice that told him to guard the skull for it would be the bringer of all power, so he took the skull. Nigel and now alex both believe that the skull would give them some kind of power. I believe nigel fucked his dead mother for she was the only women he ever loved
NanniProductions 2 years ago 5
ok that makes sense. thanks for that...ps that is WICKED CREEPY!!
irishcailin317 2 years ago 3
I missed who was the dead body at the end. Was it Nigels mother and he had sex with her dead body or was it the other dead girl that Alex liked and Alex gave in to Nigel?
ladycatsbv 2 years ago
Alex fucked the girl he loved and Nigel fucked his mother. Nigel died so Alex took over. The dead body at the end is Alex's true love.
NanniProductions 2 years ago
Never mind, I get it.

pls tell me what happened i dont get it
phuditpuangmalai 2 years ago
Basicly all th things the dead boy talked about got through to the main character, meaning when he denied having sex with the girl he liked - he actually did it. He probably fabricated a few things in his sotry but overall he accepted his cult, since he knew about his Cults history LONG before Nigel started bothering him about it.
SilentGig1 2 years ago
And no he didn't fabricate anything. I was watching the director's commentary who also write the script and he said that everything alex said is the truth. You do see that in the movie alex says "it doesn't make a difference now anyway." he is pretty much admitting he did it to nigel. Its just in his mind he blanked it.

Well basically what happened was, in the end, the whole 'get me out I'm innnocent thing' turned to scraps since he decided to continue the whole freaky cult thing.
