well you want to talk power i had a74 kw w/ a 1693 cat the only truck that could out do it had a kta 600 cummins but i was passing a line trucks one day and threw a rod out the side . ill never be the same
I m sorry but those cummins are 6 cyl.not 8s,cummins made some V-8s,the 903 but they were junk, the v-12s werent nothing great either just 2-220s bolted together, but those 6 cyls with a pt fuel pump could be set up to tote the mail,Ive had 350s and 400 cummins that after I changed the button and added some shims to the pump that would out pull 550 cats.been there done it over and over again
@oldpaths Yes indeed,my dad and his former boss(deceased) love Cummins engines and his 1970 KW 925 had a 400 Cummins and a 13 speed..could pull all day long and especially when his boss turned up the wick.
I hit enter too soon! Just so you know, I'm not knocking the vid, just seen the anti-cat guys messages and had to put in my 2 cents. Love the truck and I've got nothing against KTAs. Love to see more of her.
KTAs are cool, I learned to truck with one. I wrench now, and on our dyno, most any Cat C16 puts down 400 FtLbs more than any 3408 or KTA we've ever run, and uses way less fuel to do it. C15 ACERTs run about the same torque as well, with no smoke, and '08s are looking to be more efficeint than pre-emission engines were, despite the bad rap that '07 gave everybody.
Nothing compares to the KTA-Cummins.Caterpillars don't come close, period.i often times hear the goofy comparison, but truth is,the KTA's were more like a TKO to anything out there.Nothing comes close, period.
I'm comparing the 18 liter CAT 3408, not the sixes. I've driven both engines in 120 ton roadtrains, and like I say, they both compare favorably...... KW in Australia has re-introduced the K Cummins in the really big stuff as the Signatures are destructing after only a short time
Downunder watched a Kenworth fitted with KTA-600 hauling triples side tippers which all up had a gross weights over 155tns,.20-series fuller,.tri drive train.
Wow that is one fast Kenworth

@NathansBackwoods Yep except it is called QSK 19, electronic version of KTA 19, in the KW C510. Check out Kenworth Australia website.
