@ajdgamer He probably starts with an empty trunk, fiberglasses about 4 layers of the negative side. Once that hardens he takes it out and makes a speaker ring out of mdf. He holds the ring in place with dowels or scraps of wood and then covers with a stretchy material. the fiberglasses over the top a few layers, and then fiberglasses the inside. He bondo's and sands the box to create a perfect master, and then makes all other boxes from this master. I'm guessing. lots of instructions on the net

Cool video but reconsider annoying music tracks to these videos it's easier to narrate verbally and judging from other videos yields many more hits of happy viewers.
Can anyone plz tell if i make a fiberglass box for my 3 kenwood exelon subs but insert them flipped like the woofer inside the enclosure should i make a air port hole plz i need an answer
If you are just reverse mounting your subs where they fire into your box as opposed to the trunk or hatchback then you build the box to specs as if it were normal mounting. A port isn't needed unless Kenwood says its preferred. You should slightly over power the sub though. And it looks nice but they ALWAYS sound better mounted normally. So if you are doing three I'd mount the center one reverse for looks and the others normal just for sound quality. IMHO....
Email rs2480@ gmail. com (no spaces), I emailed him about custom rings. He sells some of them on eBay, just go to eBay and search for MDF speaker ring - or something similar. Good luck!
that series is sweet, i gotta make 1 of these for my ute, gonna go beside the fuel tank under the tub, there is a space in vr/vs to put 1 there, onli prob i have, any chance of a tutorial on how to make a shape to fit into the space in the car, is it basicly the same as in this tut, only prepin the area in the car with the wax and stuff, or do you line it with something first?
yes, you can have a gelcoat finish and/or paint, and/or carpet. I get terminals from tandy electronics(or dick smiths) and jaycar within Australia. Not sure of any north american store chains like these, sorry.
What kind of car was this going into?? and just some info for ppl out there . Marine shops usually sell in bulk and is cheaper! plus they usually have everything you need!
I respect your skills majorly, your better at fibreglass than i am (newb here) by miiiilesss, but its really not that hard to carpet an MDF box without seams showing :)
Anyway, thanks for this, it's helped me majorly :) All 4 of the box vids i mean :)
why you make a fiberglass mold for your sub then carpet doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having fiberglass box most people paint fiberglass boxes not carpet them
i produce these and sell them.. the fiberglass is easy to remake because of the NEGATIVE mold. These sub boxes are practical and space saving, not the painted wank ones that stick out like dogs balls. And there are more carpeted boxes out there then non.... it also provides more sound dampening.
No, the point of a fiberglass box is NOT strictly so it can be painted... An MDF ox is just as easy to paint as fiberglass. The point is to get odd shapes, or fitting a certain airspace into a tight space.
What kind of glue would I use if I was to use fake fur rather then carpeting? The same kind or would that mess up the way it look and would not stick the same?
bootliner carpet or unbacked automotive carpet. I get it from a local place that does marine and automotive trimming. Go to a local auto trimmer and they can get it for you.
It takes a couple minutes to cover one side if I dont put it on straight away half dries up on me, specially in this tropical climate.
I mention why I brush at 0:51. I find spraying glue unnecessary, you can get the same result in half the time by brushing, saving setup and clean up tasks. I would only spray now if I had a much larger surface to cover.
He's no expert, but he's got sub carpeting on a roll???

does it matter if a sub box is carpeted or not? does it make any sound difference?

How do you make the mold to make that sub box? If it fiberglass put over plastic in the trunk then molded over to get the final item?
ajdgamer 1 year ago
@ajdgamer You talking about a different type of mold and is not covered in these videos.

how thick of a matte do you use?
kristenc93 2 years ago
300-900 g/meter matte. Wall thickness on this one is about 8-14mm. about 10 layers of 600g matte.

yeah you definitely would need to put a port because all that turbulence in the box will need to get out

magicsoccer13 2 years ago
yes, after wax. Wait for gelcoat to cure then either another coat of gelcoat (recommended) or start the fiberglass reinforcement.

if is a MDF.also can carpet like tis?is it a must for MDF?

Less stretching more cutting. layout your box dimensions flat so you will only have seams along the edges.
