@ThePoorhillbilly Yeah, it's still selling out, no matter how you slice it. Then again, it seems every musician besides Neil Young is doing it these days. That's why I fucking love Neil. My favorite Malkmus album is possibly Pig Lib.
@Ghoopty yeah fucking lou reed is doing stuff with metallica. but I the 90s pavement stuff was indie. you know.I don't if you could even last like that for that long. he's obviously being nice and they asked for his music. poor guy
this is one of the best albums of the decade, top to bottom. brilliantly coherent from top to bottom. one of the most powerful openings (dragonfly pie) all the way to the final sounds. a masterpiece. black sabbath, kinks, alman bros... this sits with anything they have done. truly remarkable lyrically and musically. yes.
@FungusMossGnosis Well I'm glad you're deaf and can't actually hear this horrid tragedy. Trust me it's so bad i stuck a pencil in my ear and just kept pushing into my brain, and you know what? It didn't help so i stuck a pencil in my other ear. Now my fucking headphones won't fit, so I can no longer hear this waste of time and air pollution. Whatever it takes.
Real Emotional Trash is a great CD @GlueyPorch but I have to disagree that it's his best material since Pavement--his 2001 release is almost perfectly Malkmus from start to finish, and Pig Lib starts strong, lulls, and then has a great finish with Craw Song. Face The Truth starts off on the wrong foot with tracks like Pencil Rot and I've Hardly Been but after that is fully redeeming.
Real Emotional Trash reminds me of Terror Twilight, when Pavement became a bit too powerpop for their own good.
the song ramdom rules, of the album american water by the silver jews is malkmus best song, even from when he was pavement... if you like his music, get that song...
Crooked Rain Crooked Rain is my absolute favorite album of theirs...I've still yet to get the two disc version of it though sadly...I have 2 disc version of almost all the other though...So freaking worth it...Especially Slanted And Enchanted's double disc...
Dude check out the songs Same Way of Saying and the Sutcliffe Catering song... They're on the second CR disc, two of my favourites... I need to get the slanted and enchanted one
I was a HUGE HUGE Pavement fan..Kinda gave up on Malkmus when he started his solo career ---was kinda made he killed Pavement (and put out a pretty sub par swan song LP) but I gotta say --been checkin out his solo video stuff, and Im likin what Im hearin...maybe time for a second look at Mr M.s second career....
Where else are you going to hear a song whose chorus goes:
You are a gardenia,
Pressed in the campaign journal in
The rucksack of an Afrikaaner
Good video, liked the more recent photos with Janet Weiss. Now he's got a drummer that can stomp it out with the best of them, here's hoping she sticks around for at least another album
By the way, this song is bliss.

If you're a musician it's always great to come back to Malkmus... Reminds me not to take myself too seriously.

@ThePoorhillbilly Actually, I saw a Sears commercial with one of the songs off his first album (Phantasies). It was very disheartening.

@Ghoopty yeah well that album wasn't his best. I think his new album is pretty good

@Ghoopty Sears is hardly mass consumerative like McDonalds though

Who else could make a line like "they're operating at significant loss" work in a pop song? SM is genius.
