You have a talent for being able to take a subject that seems complicated to beginners and breaking it down into do-able parts. You clarify, simplify, make us feel we can do this! Thank you!
@lewishill94 Fuckin' relax. He's teaching people who like to paint how to paint a portrait without having to draw it out first. You need a fat blunt or something.
omg, finally some help. My art teacher does not teach well. I asked her how are we supposed to paint people (because she assigned us to paint a person on a 18 by 24 paper) and she's like, i'd start with the light colors and work with the shades...I was like..um I know that...
"you will begin to see things as they are. Just don't name any detail." Yes, spot on, sir.
Man, this is brilliant. I love that you broke down the tones and value changes, did the transfer. I usually work much larger, but the transfer idea is hot.
Also, I'm behind you on this. Dig that you've cut the steps down simply enough so that anyone who wants to can give this a shot.
Oh my gosh why didn't I think of that?! lol The thing with breaking it down into 4 main colors and then blending...BRILLIANT! That makes so much sense and it's what I've been waiting for. Thank you sooo much! I have been trying to figure out how to paint portraits FOREVER and YOU just made me see it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
LOVE your work! I have done a couple pieces since watching your video and have gotten complimented that I should sell!thanks 4 the help u r a great teacher! :P
I did trace the original image. I recommend that you premix the colors and let them dry first or add a touch of zinc white after you get the color you want. zinc white will lighten up the color a bit so it dries to the color you want. check out the rest of the series.
This is genius! Not painting eyes, nose, or mouth but painting abstract details may just have bumped up my grade in art.

that's EXACTLY what my art teacher always told me!!!!!!!!!
draw what you see and not what you know
eveything is just lines and shadows, you're not thinking about drawing the hair, you're thinking about drawing lines with shadow in them

question: did you trace that? or eye ball it?
and it looks like stencil work also. (not saying its bad..just question).. since acrylics dry darker do you recommend using really light colors?
