  • Thanks for posting!!! This was one of my favorites - and first Sax I remember hearing in a rock song.

  • AWESOME!

  • Ah, yes cruising Sunset Blvd in dads new Impala convertible on the weekend, Oh man, takes me back.

  • This one's for you, Clarence C! Keep playing that sax in Heaven!

  • There are a lot of reissues that sound horrible, but this reissue sounds very nice! It all depends on the state of the masters they have to work with... these were obviously well kept and the original recording very well engineered and mastered for the time!

  • i remember my parents playing this song

  • thanks boss

  • Thumbs up if Springsteen and The Roots brought you here.

  • Any idea who's playing the sax?

  • Les Cooper was the manager of the Charts, who recorded for Everlast also (Desiree)

  • Never heard this dance hit before. There was a dance craze alright back when I went to highschool & The Locomotion & Limbo Rock were always played at the noon hour sock hop. Oh there were oothers like the Fish by Bobby Rydell or The Bird by Deedee Sharp but nothing compared to the Pepperment Twist. When I think of those dances it seems most of us were straight & innocent & didn't make sexual advances on our partners while dancing the Twist. Raves have changed all that today & it's sexy!

  • When you hear this, way off the in the future you can hear Willie Mitchell and his brand of Memphis Soul

  • Great Mod song

  • the boss sent me here

  • I just realized how much better the record sounds than it did on my old phonograph with the metal needles that you bought cheaply by the dozen I guess they were hard on the record back then it was 16 for talking books for the blind 33 45 and 78 Today turntables almost always have just 33 and 45 great recording Thanks for the effort of posting it

  • still got the 45 packed away I bought it around Christmas 1962 in NY I believe Loved the song but I don't think I ever heard another record by them but I was only 12

  • I love this song, i remember dancing to this song by the hours at a place in Tiffin Ohio it was called club 224. This is time gone forever. Thanks so much for posting this song.

  • This was the first recording I ever had. I was only 13 years old. Way too cool!!!!

  • If anyone has a link to a vid of the roots covering this, link me in a direct message ... The videos from the night Bruce was there do not even show this part...

  • Lot"S ofDJ"s in the 1960"s used this for their introduction, when they came on or went off the air .

  • OK...somewhere in a secret record box...I own this record!...from back in the days when instrumentals could appear on the top 40 (Ventures..."Walk Don't Run"...Vince Guaraldi ("Cast Your Fate To The Wind"..."A Charlie Brown Christmas"...)...we held each other when we danced...singers, bands, groups...and we...dressed nicely...Tunesmith

  • Bruce mentioned this song on Jimmy Fallon. Thanks Bruce, great tune

  • Thumbs up if ?uestlove and Springsteen brought you here

  • @iampoopman yeah i was amazed at how fast they did this song without practicing it. That night when Bruce was their.

  • @iampoopman HAHAH YES!

  • Oh man. Remember doing the 'Hitch Hike' and/or the Popeye to this song when I was in 8th grade. Wow. Wore the grooves off this 45, and it STILL sounds great.

  • Oh man, I was a freshman in high school. Hey Sandy ya wanna dance??

  • Anyone know anything about Les Cooper and those Soul Rockers? Who were they? Where were they from? Where are they now?

  • The sax player is Joey Grier, who sang lead for The Charts. The Charts also recorded for Everlast Records and were from Harlem. I'm guessing the rest of the band was from NYC as well.

  • Man; I wore this song OUT when I was a kid. We were doing the 'Popeye' to this tune...sliding back and forth across our dining room floor...my Mom thought we looked so silly...BUT she loved this tune. What choice did she have after hearing it 10 times a day? LOL. Rock on Les. Wiggle that Wobble!!!!! So simple, so funky.

  • @Torihope Great story. I was only about 4 and I remember very well watching nmy older brothers getting into this record. We were 9 boys and we'd be all dancing in the living room to my Dads amusement. What great days those were before Vietnam and troubles came.

  • I was 10 and remember folks runnin to the dance floor on this jam...What a great sound. Au Natural. This is when dancing consisted of "cuttin the rug" , bumpin and grindin...real sheeet. Love it, madly!!!

    SOULFULLY DELIVERED!!!

    Right on, Baby.

  • Yes! Thanks for posting. I was looking through my old 45's - didn't really think this song would be on here but searched for it anyway - and - Whoomp - there it is! I'm looking at my 45 exactly matching the 45 in the video - too cold!

  • the SAX . . . .

  • I was a DJ at Orlando AFB in the mid 60's - and when I played this song the floor was crowded and everybody danced.............loved it then and now..........thanks..........

  • I use to listen to this and Watermelon Man back in the day both underplayed and underated these days!

  • Thanks for posting this great instrumental. I don't remember hearing it at the time (in eastern PA), but loved it when heard on oldies show in OH about mid '90s.

  • I was in the Navy in 1962 at that time stationed in San Francisco heard that song at all the Disco's there.Great inst.

  • One of the great instrumentals ever. Thanks for posting it. Man, it was great back when there were always a few instrumental hits going.

  • I thought it was Les Cooper and the All Stars. That song has been on my iPod since the day I got it. Great piece of music!!

  • @Billleavens ...maybe youre thinking of jr walker and the all stars

  • Thanks, this brings me back to

    Jamaica Avenue, and the major

teasing of my hair, pink lipstick,

    and tight sweaters.

    I love it.

    Happy holidays.

  • love the wiggle wobble....i hadn't heard this for years...so cool to hear it now

  • this is my idea of the sound of the 60's before the english invasion

  • That's Joe Grier, the lead singer of the Charts wailing on the sax

  • one of the best dance records ever.....so cool

  • I love this! It got me in a good mood. Thank you, Lory73!

  • omg this is so freaking cool. Les Cooper is my Grandfather ! I decided to look him up and i found it this is so amazing !

  • @GRRRIMABAMF Hello, i noticed that you commented 10 months ago that Les Cooper is your grandfather. He is also my grandfather. I would like to know who you are. Please reply. Thank you.

  • Lory - great saxaphone solo! Love the 45 going counter-clockwise.

  • I remember the Friday night dances at Revere Beach in MA. We would do the Wiggle Wobble till we were so sweaty and we would go outside to get cooled off by the beach breeze.

  • An old Dick Biondi fav, WLS radio Chicago.

  • This is a example of the numerous hot records Produced by the GREAT Bobby Robinson of Bobby's Happy House Records in Harlem NYC.....His 60's hits were on the Fire,Fury,Enjoy and Everlast lables among others.....Cheers!

  • Produced by the great Bobby Robinson of Bobby's Happy House Records in Harlem NYC....This is just one of his incrdibely hot dance and groove records of his 60's period on the Fire, Fury,Enjoy,Everlast lables among others.....Cheers!

  • Absolutely amazing song. Great rock and roll by truly great musicians. Might be older than dirt, but that's when the music was good!

  • One of the classic instrumentals of the early 60's. All the old 45's rotated clockwise, but this label's spinning backwards.

  • Spinning effect on my editing software loves being controversial...

    ;)

  • !!tuoba gniklat era elpoep tahw wonk t'nod I

    !!em ot enif smees

  • @stOOpid68

    Oh totaly sir

  • @pgh45rpms I would love to here Sandy Nelson"s version of this song:)

  • Great instrumental from the early 60's. (All of the old 45's used to rotate clockwise, but this label's spinning backwards.)

  • Lory73

Thanks for posting this. I remember when it came out. That was before they invented dirt!.

    Thanks again.

  • I don't remember when this was originally popular, but it was the sign off song for "The Real Don Steele" on Friday afternoon, on 93/KHJ "Boss Radio" in Los Angeles (or should I say "Boss Angeles", as they used to call it on the station back then) going into evening. He was a very loud DJ and would scream over a good portion of the song, as his daytime show was over for the week. KHJ was the coolest station on the dial in L.A. back in the 1960's.

  • Hey oceanstreat, Great Real Don Steele memory and let's not forget Robert W Morgan too. I grew up in Easr L.A. and we always had the radio on AM 93KHJ or soul station AM 1230 KGFJ. It was a great time to be a young teen growing up. What part of L.A. were you at?

  • I loved Sandy Nelson's cover of this tune.. I started playing drums to sandy Nelson at a young age.. I'm 30 now.. good old music still the best!

  • does that take me back, haven't heard this since 62' in harrisburg,pa. this music was the theme song for a local tv teen danceshow. i just had my memory jogged by king curtis reference here on youtube and the title came to me...many thanks

  • Lory73: I tried to post a comment under "Gonzo" by James Booker to thank you, but it didn't take. Maybe I'll get through here!

  • I think Jimmy Castor (or perhaps Joseph Grier)was the one doing the tenor sax on this great jam.

  • Yup, believe it was Joe Grier. This is a great tune that always gets a crown on the floor.

  • LOL! How do you get those records to spin

    backwards?

But this is one of many great Oldies instru-

    mentals! Thanks.

  • Oh man, thank you Lory73. One of the all-time instrumentals. I remember it well as a little kid. It hasn't lost a thing over the 46 years. Thanks so much for posting this one.

  • Wow this is amazing. Les Cooper is my grandfather, I got curious and looked him up, and look what I found! Awesome.

  • At 57 I've known bunches of guys in R&R bands over the years a number of them blow the ax. But not one of them have ever heard of Les Cooper or the cut "WIGGLE WOBBLE" and I can't figure it out? They're mostly from NJ or NYC and they should've been hipped to this jam back in the mid-`60's----- I guess they're amateurs! (Russ Moran & David Forman) OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH!!!!

  • I'm from NJ and I played Wiggle Wobble in a band when I was 15 or 16. If I can find a copy, I will post it! Great tune!

  • they used to play this on wcbsfm in nyc but it was more in the 1980s when norm n. night did oldies countdowns

  • Why doesn't this kind of music get airplay anymore?

  • sadly, because record execs just want mass appeal sugar coated mainstream &*%££!!

  • Thanks for the great song. I played this when I was with a "garage" band in '63 in Louisville, KY. Played sock hops and other minor venues. Local radios stations were WAKY (790) and WKLO (1080). Currently, WAKY is now FM 103.5. Thanks for taking the time to play this music.

  • I was trying to think of some of the songs that I used to dance to in the early 60s and I decided to do a search for this song. Lo and behold I found it. Talk about memories. Thank you *s0 much* for posting this. Great song with so many memories.

  • Your very welcome!:)

    Thanks for listening/watching

  • i hear this song and i remember a lot of things, but most of all, all the surfing we did to music like this.

  • I love this song !!
