  • Listening to one of your videos, I was like she is from La. I couldn't concentrate on the video until I was able to find out if I correct! LOL I could hear it well! I'm married to a brother from down there. I just love the dialect!

  • Sunny Patterson... I LOVE this poem.... my Body just dont speak no english...... babab jdfsfokjd mfnoaifhnv.... uhhh ladies dont we know that feeling! These are 15 thins i also do NOT miss x

  • i dont kno if its already been posted, but what song is this and artist?????

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!!! love this video..I can identify with all that you mentioned. So glad I did the big chop!!

  • AMEN!!!! to all 15 reasons and then some.

19+ yrs ago, I decided to go....natural (locs) and haven't looked back. :-) I wasn't concerned nor worried about corp. america and the like. Take me as I am or not. Either way... stay in your lane. :-)

  • Amen, Amen, Amen! I especially don't miss crying over my hair if it didn't look straight and "perfect" enough.

  • Amen to number 15!

  • LOL LOL LOL LMBO at #8. That was the reason why I learned how to do my own relaxers and cuts. You are too much lol, Love your videos!!!

  • AMEN!

    Love it.

  • great video

  • Testify!!

  • I love your vids. I was worried about going under the dryer. I used the hood dryer to set my twists for the first time today since going natural? Hopefully, I haven't permanently altered my curl pattern. Question: Do you know the elderly woman in the the middle with the red outfit on? (She is the spitting image of my GM!)

  • @NippEzWorld

Thank you :O) Direct Heat (such as a marcel or chi iron) puts your hair at higher risk than a hooded dryer which is more like the sun, indirect heat. The thing about it is we need moisture (water) and do not want to totally dry our locs (hair) completely out. If and when you decide to use the hooded dryer or diffuser, try limiting your time under the hooded dryer and/or use the lowest settings possible to lower the risk of heat damage.

  • love this vid thanks

  • Is that Sunni.....cant think of her whole name....doing the spoken word?

  • This is so true. I not even sure why it took me so long to get off of the creamy crack. I have been transitioning for about 6 months and I absolutely love the thickness. I can't wait until I am completely natural. I think my turning point was watching my hair look thin and limp. And the shedding became unreal, for some reason I never understood why I couldn't achieve the desired results. Basically I just believe that is just the way it has too be, which is a lie. Thanks for the video.

  • i <3 this

  • I never could understand #8, any and all moisture forever gone.Poof!

  • NUMBER 8 IS SOO TRUE!

I'm like WHAT? W?!? Haha I LOVE this video and I cant wait to be NATURAL!

    Peace~

  • what song is this? its amazing!!

  • Sunni Patterson: Be Mine

  • It's a free-ing experience. Rain, humidity, all that. Who cares? Lol. Go Natural!

  • Yep, every number from #1 to #15, I can relate. Keeping up with the lye, gets tiring, costly, and you come a realization, and think, for what? I guess we all have to find out for ourselves though. I'm not fighting my hair anymore. I embrace it.

  • I love every thing about this video. I decided to transition to natural hair for the same reasons and I changed to a more natural life style. Can't do that and still allow chemicals to seep into my body.

  • I love this video! Thanks so much! :-)

  • ~simPly LoveLY!~

  • I thought that was Sunni Patterson! I love her and I knew that was her the minute I heard her voice!

Love the video and the great pictures!

  • This is deep! I am really feeling #3. I remember getting 5 burns in my head that turned into scabs while getting a relaxer b/c the stylist said "it'll look better the longer it sits" or something like that (while she watched her stories). I do still press/flat iron from time to time, but thanks to all these lovely natural ladies on youtube, I dont straighten as much as i used to. im learning to work with my natural hair, and Im loving it! GREAT VIDEO!! THANK YOU!

  • man....this video is REAL...besides the fact that all the reasons u went natural is trueee....that poem by miss sunni patterson is the TRUTH...she is the truth!!!!! AMEN to this video....great good, i truly do enjoy ur videos...keep up the good work!

  • oh my gosh I LOVE This. seriously these are all reasons I went natural. I hate going to the salon. Especially black salons. You have to clear your whole entire day while someone does your hair in between eating and talking lol

    love it.

  • i like this song what'z the name???

  • Be Mine by Sunni Patterson

  • This video is toooooo beautiful. If those pics were you (with the white wrap) you are gorgeous btw. I do not miss any of that!!! Thanks for making this!

  • Beautiful video...Love it

  • yeah...what you said!!!!

  • <3 luvv luvv luvv the video!

  • this video gave me goose bumps! beautifully arranged, the ultimate reasons why i became natural! theres so many of us who became natural for the very same reasons! i loved your video!

  • Gurrlll!!! I am feeling all those things that we don't miss. We put ourselves through unnecessary stress for so long by living the LYE!

  • LOL...I was reading the "tapping" one and I was acting silly and tapped my head...and the speaker in my right headphones (which didn't work before) turned on! LOL!

  • Right-on with everything you wrote!!!

  • Great video!!

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO!

  • NappyChronicles, well said! I could relate to everything you said. I think this natural thing is so liberating and educational. It was like somewhere along the way in our culture we lost a part of ourselves in trying to conform to society's rules of straight hair. I remember asking my mom why she ever gave me a perm in the first place. Out of all the answers she gave, none of it made any sense. Now, we're both natural and I'm raising my daughters that way too!

  • wait i don't get it....i'm more scared of getting water in my hair now as a natural then i was as a permie. If my hair get's wet, i get major shrinkage, and i don't want that. when i was relaxed, it stayed stright, even when it got wet

  • Shrinkage Prone is the nature of Nappy Hair.

Don't confuse moisture with oil. Water moisturizers and oils act as emolients, which soften, lubricate and seal in moisture. Water is stored in the cortex of your hair shaft & is responsible for you hair's elasticity, i.e., it's ability to stretch without breaking. Many nappies discover their hair doesn't necessarily need oils, but no one's hair can thrive without being properly moisturized.

    Water = Moisture

Moisture is your hair's best friend

  • [X]ooo nvm i saw the title[X]

  • [X]i absolutely HAVE TO KNOW THIS SONG / SKIT / POEM / WHATEVER IT IS! lol i had to watch the video twice since i was so tuned into the song! btw i totally agree with you :] [X]

  • -just saw the song title at the end -lol

  • great video & what is tht background music, excellent

  • PREACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with EVERY single thing on that list, I was nodding my head the whole way through. Now if only I can get the courage to go Naturelle.

  • Do it!

  • *Applause.* Speak it.

  • What a wonderfully thought out and executed video creation. Beautiful and right on the money. Thanks. Kudos.

  • Number 11 about taking 6 hours to do your hair is the MOST ridiculous part for me. I used to spend all day in those places with unprofessional women just gabbin away well my relaxer burned. I'd be in there for 9 in the morning till 4pm. thank God those days are over!

  • Exactly...

  • Nice video!!!

  • OMG NUMBER 8 IS THE MAJOR-EST FOR ME.

I used to fricken HATE that. seriously, i was so annoyed. I never even understood that.

  • I loved this!! Thank-you!!

    My sentiments exactly!!!!

    Peace!!

  • That was great. The fact that it was so simple makes it even greater. The presentation and deliverance... O my gosh what was playin' in the background gave it a REALLY nice touch. I just began my transition about 8 weeks ago and I've never got so many compliments on my hair. I trimmed it myself and I'm learning more and more everyday. Videos like this one is what inspires me. Thanks and Congrats girlfriend ; )

  • Nevermind, I saw the song at the end! I guess I need to just be patient!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS VID. What is that playing in the background? I dig that!

  • OMG i feel you on everything you stated! I feel so impowered now!
