My 4 yr old grand daughter had 2 CI over 2 yrs ago
She talks some and says no very well..She is learning so much now .She goes to a deaf school, knows numbers and colors..She is just so much fun now that she can hear
Everyone have their worlds. :) I am Deaf and I have a cochlear implant. Two years ago, the doctor and my parents asked me if I want another cochlear implant. That time, I was 17 years old...enough to make a decision. My reply is "No, I don't want it. One cochlear implant is enough. I am done with three surgery on my right ear." Well, I have two world Hearing and Deaf worlds. I love big world, not small world. Let those hard of hearing/Deaf people figure out what their world is. Love ur world
hi i'm deaf and i have Cochlear Implant and i part of hard of hearing and i use asl as both in way. i use Cochlear Implant since 20 years when i start get Cochlear Implant at 2 year old
You miss a point buddy. This kid signs very well and he has the understanding of both worlds. Same as me. He didn't miss anything like kids born deaf used to.
My parents are still working on sign after me being deaf/Deaf for 14 years. It's no easy task for hearing parents to learn sign. So kids of hearing adults are better off having the option of both worlds. Hey, I love my bicultural life"
Get over your deaf ass. Serioulsy. My BIL is deaf as a post, and his mother made him learn to speak proper AND busted her behind to get him in a school that made arrangements for the deaf.
But again, I respect your feelings and appreciate your honesty. However the implant does not have to be viewed as a negative thing (especially when the child is clearly happy). Your job as a deaf individual (and the rest of the Deaf community) is to welcome and ACCEPT those children/people with CI regardless of the age they got it. At Gallaudet, so many CI students were pushed away from the community b/c of these ridiculous issues. Accepting them as equals will make the community grow.
(I didn't have enough room for the rest of my message). I think ALL children under 8yrs old should be taught sign language regardless if they have the CI though. Thats just something that has to be worked on. It should be encouraged in the deaf community, not demanded (that will only turn people away). A parent makes a decision for a child based on what THEY think is the right choice for THEIR child. Ears pierced for baby girls, boys circumcised & CIs. children cannot make those decisions.
I respect you for expressing how you feel about the CI Jack, however I completely missed the "Sad story". The video you showed was a smiling little boy satisfied and happy with the fact that with his CIs he could now enjoy sound and experience life outside the deaf community. I am also a bilateral cochlear implant user (yes, I have TWO implants and love them). But I am also very involve with the deaf community-current Miss Deaf AL if you will-and loves using ASL.
I'm a Hearing person who understands why the Deaf Community is going through the agrument of having Deaf people getting a Cochlear Implant. When I do have children and if one of them becomes Deaf I will let that child be Deaf and be part of a great community that has these amazing customs and traditions. So for all of you hearing people I would like to let you know that you first have to understand the other side of the story when it comes to this Implant.
As Marsellus Wallace would say, "The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting. That's pride fucking with you. Fuck pride. Pride only hurts. It never helps. You fight through that shit."
Grow up. Hearing doesn't make you cool (or uncool). It's a sense. I hear those come in handy from time to time.
It would benefit the poster to put a caption or something on this video. Otherwise, he just seems like a smug kid who happens to be deaf, and wants to be proud of it... I don't understand sign language, but from some of the comments it seems as though this child is saying that Cochlear implants are bad, because God made you deaf? I'm not sure, but if that is the case, there are certainly large flaws to that logic. God made you naked, but you aren't naked while reading this, obviously.
I am very interested in what this young man has to say. Unfortunately, his video cannot truly speak to anyone who cannot understand sign language. I respect that he seems to have a message that could impact the hearing community and especially parents of deaf children, and would suggest that in future he include subtitles or text notations so that we can actually understand what he is saying. Otherwise he is pretty much preaching to the choir.
Your a brave little Man and a trooper!!!! My son was born Profoundly Dead and we would not change a thing. Both his mother and I have learned to sign ASL and all is good. He is 19 now bigger and better than I ever was. Thx!!!!
That video is not sad okay? It's happy those ci gave that boy a chance he otherwise ne'er would have been given! Maybe when he is an adult if he doesn't like them then he won't wear them! But don't exploit that family! He could now hear all the amazing sounds there is to hear! And by the looks of the video he was a pretty happy looking child if you ask me!
@dancingbebe1234567 I think you missed a couple of very important points. Jack's narrative aside, the video itself is revealing. The parents said that they had no access to ASL. That is total BS- there are countless resources for hearing parents of deaf children. To claim that a cochlear implant was their only option is a BIG FAT LIE. It's a cover up for lazy parents who are scared of having a deaf child, and putting forth the necessary effort.
My God. Can you deaf and dumb clowns shutup about "We have to let children wait till they're 18"! The CI will not work as well if you wait that long being that brain was not able to develop in its young stages. Every single one of you clowns with your moronic looking "ASL" are trashy looking dirty people sitting in front of a camera waving your hands. Yes, I said it! You attack parents who want to give their children the gift of hearing, then I'm going to attack you back! This kid is a brat!
@saturdaysghost There you buffoons go again with your rhetoric. You anti-CI drones, who are thankfully dwindling in population, make the most irrational statements about parents who are faced with awful effects of deafness in their children. Face you moron, you CANNOT speak if you can't hear! I'm sure this child loves and enjoys the sound of nature. Sure, CIs are not quite like "normal hearing", but they're still magnificent. I know plenty about the ignorant deaf culture, and I am HOH by the way
@TheMadMusicMan Hey, before you go spewing about ignorant deaf people or anti CI, look at the facts first. They're dangerous just like many other medical procedures, not unreasonably dangerous but still it's brain surgery. Second I have no clue what you mean by the population "dwindling", it's still a grey area for many people. And why don't you tell Marlee Matlin she can't talk, she's deaf, can't hear, can speak. VERY well. Respect other people's opinion. And I am HoH as well.
@katthescarymonster the surgery involves cutting near and around the brain, severing the auditory nerve, and inserting a device and a magnet beneath your skull... sounds dangerous enough if you ask me. also according to some people i've asked about CI's (post lingually deafened) they sound very unnatural and are nothing like hearing. i wouldn't put myself or my kid through this kindof surgery unless they wanted it. if they don't speak 100% perfect, who cares?
@TheMadMusicMan you CAN speak even if you cannot hear, with heaps of speech therapy, practice and lip-reading - you can talk without being able to hear. you're incredibly disrespectful about the deaf community - perhaps you should try to see it from their point of view and MAYBE you will understand and not be so 'ignorant'.
@TheMadMusicMan you are a fucking moron good sir. that's very disrespectful and i know two people who are profoundly deaf who have quite good speech. years of speech therapy and practice allow them to speak even though they can't hear themselves. They can articulate just fine in a way that is understandable to the average english speaker.
@DaveASL Way to go daveGAYsl, resort to swearing when you lack the ability to say something of merit. We're not talking about people just being able to understand, we're talking about them being able to speak without sounding rather odd. Cochlear Implants are not perfect, but they allow for people to speak very well. You can enjoy living silence, that's just dandy, but stop harassing people that implant their children. Go jump off the Golden Gate Bridge!
@TheConservativeKing You are clearly a "hearing and ignorant" clown. I lost my hearing through Meniere's disease. Until I was 18, I had perfect hearing. It is clear to me that you are sheltered, intolerant, and a bigot. This society does not tolerate prejudice against races and religions, but we do against disabilities, which is sick. You are living proof of that. ASL is language like anything else, and you clearly can't use English grammar properly, so how would you know? How dare you.
@TheConservativeKing Audism at its best. ConservativeKing noone's attacking anyone, it's allowed to express your opinion, especially about science. ESPECIALLY about a specific scientific topic that isn't widely accepted and is sortof controversial. If you can't express your opinion objectively without attacking other people, don't express it at all.
By the way, I know several CODA (children of deaf adults) and they fit into deaf culture just fine. In fact they are very valued people as translators, assistants, and so on. A child with an implant is still deaf - yes it can be tough at school to fit in but kids with bad vision have the same issues and can still succeed. Being deaf, but able to hear is like having two cultures. Like understanding a foreign religion and language. It is a blessing to have both, even if neither one is perfect.
Adults who are profoundly deaf almost never gain normal-sounding speech. Sadly, only babies learn like babies do. As adults we simply aren't as smart anymore. So if you let them decide for themselves later on, they have already missed their best chance, forever. If you implant as a child they can still choose to turn it off later... but a baby who never gets one doesn't have a choice to sound normal as an adult. It's a hard decision for a parent but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
My daughter has a C.I. and wwe couldnt be happier. She loves music and plaaying the drums. Without her C.I. she would never know what she was missing. We have a video on my page about our exsperience. C.I. is the greatest thing in the entire world. God bless
@Bucketbeats22 Not saying that your daughter won't do well with a cochlear implant, but did u ever think that she might want to be part of Deaf Culture? I support giving children the choice, not forcing them one way, there are more than one way, and cochlear implant or not, deafness will be who she is, nothing will make her hearing
I 100% agree with you! That video was so sad and absurd! I left a comment on it saying that boy probably would've been so much happier had his family just learned ASL. CI's don't even have any sort of documentation on success rate but yet parents just go ahead with this surgery anyways? What is wrong with people?! You are a beautiful signer by the way!
this is so cool how there are so many languages and sign language is a language:D i don't understand sign language but It was wonderful watching u make all the sign language movements:) people communicate in many ways by the grace of God
if you dont have a cochlear implant and are hearing don't talk because you know what it's like to be deaf its not good. Getting a hearing aid was the best thing in my life! I wouldn't be able to hear birds chirping. Trust me you will be amazed what it's like not being able to hear and having to read peoples lips because you dont understand ASL its hard. So leave all of us hearing impaired people alone.
@oreocookies860 there are a lot of Deaf who would completely disagree with that. Maybe it's because you never learned ASL that you have such a problem with it, that's a big part of being a proud Deaf. Reading lips does suck... Signing all the way =]
@ellenasl I did not mean to give you a thumbs down....I have my hearing and WANT to be able to communicate with those who cannot hear. Being "D" or "d" deaf is not a hanicap, it's an obstical. I can't sing, but that doesn't mean I wont make what I feel is a joyful noise ;) I am currently in my second semester of ASL and love the opportunity every chance I get to use my new language. To be able to see smile on a signing persons face when I acknowledge that I'll try to use my ASL is worth it
my opinion on cochlear implants, well, CI should be BANNED!! I come from generations of deaf family, WE are proud to be deaf, we dont need no GD machine in our heads just to hear, GOD made us DEAF, why need stupid MACHINE to go in our heads n make us robots to make people HAPPY?
@ackroydsamantha You can't ban something so many others love. Everyone has their own opinions. It is great the you are happy without CI, but many others are happier with CI. Another thing is parents wants what is best for their child. What is so hard for people to understand that a parent wants their child to hear their voice. To hear the song to their first slow dance. To hear thunder. To hear the vows from their fiancée spoken at their wedding.
@ackroydsamantha it's not always for other people to be happy. It's also for you to be happy!!! It's not fun being deaf or be hearing impaired. some people are proud to be deaf others are not and want to hear their grandkids talk to them, or hear the television etc.
@ackroydsamantha So, the blind should remain blind, the sick should remain infirm- you don't take medicine when you are ill because G-d made your illness, right? And of course, you don't drive, G-d didn't make us cars. The reasoning of the deaf community members who WANT people to remain deaf is ridiculous in my opinion.
Unfortunately I dont understand ASL, but let me say this as a father of a deaf little girl... she got the implant 6 months ago, she's 2 now and I can tell you, she looks happier, she laughs a lot, she discovered a new world. I really dont understand why all anti-CI videos are from deaf people. But it seems pretty clear after all.. and its sad. Stop doing this man, its very selfish from you that didn't had the opportunity to get the CI at a convenient age.
@dadcochleari, I am hearing and I agree that CIs are not for children. They are risky and they are a big responsibility. It isn't fair to put someone through that and make them live their lives with the implant when it isn't their choice. I believe that people should be able to decide for themselves. Implanted kids have a hard time fitting in with the hearing community AND the Deaf community, it is a huge decision.
@dzemergency I agree it is a huge risk especially for kids. In some cases hearing is important if you don't have something other than smoke detectors in your house. No matter what circumstance , wait until your kid is old enough to make a decision and not regret it. Let them decide if they want to take the risks to be able to hear. Although , if they don't choose and regret it later , if a success they could just not wear it. You could choose if you want to hear or not.
@dzemergency no it's not you know how many kids go to a school for deaf children? Lots there all fine and most of them wear CIs. I'm one of them all the kids at my school love there CIs
@dadcochleari I've seen many Deaf people implanted as children who resent their parents' decision. Also, CI surgery has a huge risk of facial paralysis, which could impair someone's ability to sign; CIs are not a miracle, they don't always work so imagine being unable to speak or hear AND be impaired at signing! Very risky! I have to say, I appreciate hearing from the other side, but don't you realize this VLogger is a LITTLE BOY? How dare you speak to him that way and insult him!?
@3kids2ci Yes I have. I was speaking from experience talking to those who have been implanted and regretted it. Also, those who had the surgery and loss the use of half of their face. I went to school for Deaf Studies, we studied CIs quite a bit and did projects to depict them as fairly as possible, speaking with both those who value and those who regret their CIs.
@dadcochleari yes but no matter what u do ur daughter will be deaf, and maybe when she gets older she will want to be part of the deaf community. Why don't u teach her sign language too? and have the cochlear implant, then she would have a choice. Also, all of my deaf friends are the happiest people i know, just because they are deaf doesn't mean they're miserable.... you are very closed-minded and not accepting difference... I'm not against cochlear implant at all by the way.
well cant blame on deaf boy option but usa is freedom civil right but some people believe deaf culture depend on their feel the way understand ..who person have cochlear implant mean very smart? not true just all normal people always be smart follow the heart who are.
viatical13 -- you are apparently not deaf, but you are retarded! Deaf-people use body language & facial expressions to give nuance & emotion to their signing. In ASL people use facial expressions & mannerisms to express things such as sarcasm, humor, irritation, seriousness etc... the same way hearing-people change the tone & volume of their voice to express emotion. AND LittleDeafJackass is bi-lingual, as written/spoken English is an ENTIRELY different language from ASL... grow up idiot!
@bjenny21 -- what is wrong with you? are you anti-Deaf, anti-ASL? I was commenting @viatical13 who made a very ignorant comment about LittleDeafJackass "making those faces" while signing... As a hearing person who has studied ASL off and on since 1st grade, I was offended by viatical13's ignorant comment... and explained the reason people "make faces" while signing & I told viatical13 to "grow up idiot"... but you are now attacking me and telling me to "leave this video alone"... ?????
you moving your mouse across the text in the video doesnt make me understand it any better...i think i can read on my own. and why are u making those faces when u are signing??
I agree! I tried to catch everything you were saying, I am still learning to sign (my Mother and Father-in-law are both deaf, so I am learning to talk to them). Great video!
I have ONE cochlear implant on right.. I can i can hear ANYTHING and speak too! Well i am lucky :P My family is hear and not deaf. it only me and my sister wow.....
i have a cochlear implant in the left ear i can hear my diesel engine if i have problem with diesel engine i can stop the engine and check out what wrong with it thats why i need it to hear it because mi hate ask engine tech to listen to it then i have to pay for it
wow funny thing i was making vid about cochlear implant too. i dont like my laptop it has problem, my cd isnt work and it make internet and window maker movie very slow it took forever to work on it. your vid is pretty awesome. and hope u like mine "is cochlear implant or deaf important to you" vid on my profile. thumbs up on ur vid
I see the boy's eyes that says he has no chance with his right front of the parents and the experts' expectations, so that the boy was manipulated by these psychopaths. We'll see what happens to the boy in the future. Saving this video so you can ask them what happens to him when he is at 18 years old.

God bless
Bucketbeats22 10 months ago 4
@Bucketbeats22 Not saying that your daughter won't do well with a cochlear implant, but did u ever think that she might want to be part of Deaf Culture? I support giving children the choice, not forcing them one way, there are more than one way, and cochlear implant or not, deafness will be who she is, nothing will make her hearing

CI are awesome, i had my since i was a baby and i love hearing people talk to me and i talk all the time. People don't understand what they are like.
3kids2ci 10 months ago 2
That is so much bs to take away something that allows me to hear.
phaze101200oo 1 year ago
I 100% agree with you! That video was so sad and absurd! I left a comment on it saying that boy probably would've been so much happier had his family just learned ASL. CI's don't even have any sort of documentation on success rate but yet parents just go ahead with this surgery anyways? What is wrong with people?! You are a beautiful signer by the way!

this is so cool how there are so many languages and sign language is a language:D i don't understand sign language but It was wonderful watching u make all the sign language movements:) people communicate in many ways by the grace of God

Would be nice to actually WRITE what you want to say.
To me, you are just showing me a NICE story of a little boy who can now hear.
If you want it to get banned, try to tell the ones that are concerned: parents that do not understand ASL.
pouinjai 1 year ago
if you dont have a cochlear implant and are hearing don't talk because you know what it's like to be deaf its not good. Getting a hearing aid was the best thing in my life! I wouldn't be able to hear birds chirping. Trust me you will be amazed what it's like not being able to hear and having to read peoples lips because you dont understand ASL its hard. So leave all of us hearing impaired people alone.
oreocookies860 1 year ago
@oreocookies860 there are a lot of Deaf who would completely disagree with that. Maybe it's because you never learned ASL that you have such a problem with it, that's a big part of being a proud Deaf. Reading lips does suck... Signing all the way =]
ellenasl 11 months ago
@ellenasl I did not mean to give you a thumbs down....I have my hearing and WANT to be able to communicate with those who cannot hear. Being "D" or "d" deaf is not a hanicap, it's an obstical. I can't sing, but that doesn't mean I wont make what I feel is a joyful noise ;) I am currently in my second semester of ASL and love the opportunity every chance I get to use my new language. To be able to see smile on a signing persons face when I acknowledge that I'll try to use my ASL is worth it

my opinion on cochlear implants, well, CI should be BANNED!! I come from generations of deaf family, WE are proud to be deaf, we dont need no GD machine in our heads just to hear, GOD made us DEAF, why need stupid MACHINE to go in our heads n make us robots to make people HAPPY?
ackroydsamantha 1 year ago
@ackroydsamantha You can't ban something so many others love. Everyone has their own opinions. It is great the you are happy without CI, but many others are happier with CI. Another thing is parents wants what is best for their child. What is so hard for people to understand that a parent wants their child to hear their voice. To hear the song to their first slow dance. To hear thunder. To hear the vows from their fiancée spoken at their wedding.

@ackroydsamantha it's not always for other people to be happy. It's also for you to be happy!!! It's not fun being deaf or be hearing impaired. some people are proud to be deaf others are not and want to hear their grandkids talk to them, or hear the television etc.
oreocookies860 11 months ago

MrSamperkins 1 year ago
@dadcochleari, I am hearing and I agree that CIs are not for children. They are risky and they are a big responsibility. It isn't fair to put someone through that and make them live their lives with the implant when it isn't their choice. I believe that people should be able to decide for themselves. Implanted kids have a hard time fitting in with the hearing community AND the Deaf community, it is a huge decision.
dzemergency 1 year ago 2
@dzemergency I agree it is a huge risk especially for kids. In some cases hearing is important if you don't have something other than smoke detectors in your house. No matter what circumstance , wait until your kid is old enough to make a decision and not regret it. Let them decide if they want to take the risks to be able to hear. Although , if they don't choose and regret it later , if a success they could just not wear it. You could choose if you want to hear or not.
luvsean13 1 year ago
@luvsean13 u cant wait until your kid is older. By then it's 2 late they won't develop speech properly.
oreocookies860 1 year ago
@dzemergency no it's not you know how many kids go to a school for deaf children? Lots there all fine and most of them wear CIs. I'm one of them all the kids at my school love there CIs
oreocookies860 1 year ago
@dadcochleari I've seen many Deaf people implanted as children who resent their parents' decision. Also, CI surgery has a huge risk of facial paralysis, which could impair someone's ability to sign; CIs are not a miracle, they don't always work so imagine being unable to speak or hear AND be impaired at signing! Very risky! I have to say, I appreciate hearing from the other side, but don't you realize this VLogger is a LITTLE BOY? How dare you speak to him that way and insult him!?
dzemergency 1 year ago 2
@dzemergency Have you ever talk to a person with cochlear implants before?
3kids2ci 6 months ago
@3kids2ci Yes I have. I was speaking from experience talking to those who have been implanted and regretted it. Also, those who had the surgery and loss the use of half of their face. I went to school for Deaf Studies, we studied CIs quite a bit and did projects to depict them as fairly as possible, speaking with both those who value and those who regret their CIs.
dzemergency 6 months ago
@dadcochleari yes but no matter what u do ur daughter will be deaf, and maybe when she gets older she will want to be part of the deaf community. Why don't u teach her sign language too? and have the cochlear implant, then she would have a choice. Also, all of my deaf friends are the happiest people i know, just because they are deaf doesn't mean they're miserable.... you are very closed-minded and not accepting difference... I'm not against cochlear implant at all by the way.
ellenasl 10 months ago
well cant blame on deaf boy option but usa is freedom civil right but some people believe deaf culture depend on their feel the way understand ..who person have cochlear implant mean very smart? not true just all normal people always be smart follow the heart who are.

viatical13 -- you are apparently not deaf, but you are retarded!

@HapahaoleBLUES I think u should grow up , idiot ~ does this video really matter to u ??? why do u even care ??? leave this video alone
bjenny21 1 year ago
@bjenny21 -- what is wrong with you? are you anti-Deaf, anti-ASL? I was commenting @viatical13 who made a very ignorant comment about LittleDeafJackass "making those faces" while signing... As a hearing person who has studied ASL off and on since 1st grade, I was offended by viatical13's ignorant comment... and explained the reason people "make faces" while signing & I told viatical13 to "grow up idiot"... but you are now attacking me and telling me to "leave this video alone"... ?????

@bjenny21 -- learn to read with at least a 3rd grade comprehension level, and then maybe move on to ASL too a-hole!

I see the boy's eyes that says he has no chance with his right front of the parents and the experts' expectations, so that the boy was manipulated by these psychopaths. We'll see what happens to the boy in the future. Saving this video so you can ask them what happens to him when he is at 18 years old.
Thank you for sharing!
