Drop the V6 and and Turbo the lil 2.4 i-Vtec. The 4cylinder done VERY well in the 1st gen and was about average for this Gen, it just missed the Acceleration part. Turbo Fixes that! Acura needs to be more brave under the hood like they was for styling. Lets Beat a 3.5L V6 Lexus with a 2.4L turbo i4! Make Lexus, BMW and Audi scared like they was back in 2003 and 1994! Acura step your game up, we are willing to step up with you, but we will not step down! Acura TSX Turbo=a Type-s emblem!
why would they only offer an automatic transmission witht the V6 !!?!?!!??! i drive the 6-speed 4cylinder and i want the v6 in stick-shift!!! it doesn't make sense to put the better engine in a vehicle in which you don't have any control of the engine and cant see what it's capable of?
What is this guy talking about in the first 2 minutes of the video?? Does he not realize the '09-present TSX is based on the previous generation? He makes it sound like the car got so much bigger. 2008 TSX = Length 183.5, wheelbase 105.1, weight 3345 lbs. 2011 TSX = 185.6L, 106.6WB, 3680 lbs. All interior dimensions are almost exactly identical. (Edmunds) Yes, weight is up, but the engine is bigger. I agree the V6 is silly, should've been the RDX's turbo 4. Also, 280 hp is NOT nearly double 205.
That car looks about as fun to drive as a Malibu. Where's the Honda/Acura that has their reliability, plus the fun and performance of an A4, Z3, or even WRX or Evo?
The TSX V6 are very fun to drive, a lot more than the 4 banger. FYI a TSX V6 wipes the floor with an audi a4 2.0T and from a rolling race would give a wrx or evo a run for it's money.
I love the fact that Honda is doing what the Acura consumers want. But when it comes to us Honda enthusiasts that want a real sports car brought out they ignore us, Honda's one of the only companies out right now with out a real sports car, they need something to replace the S2000..
@dre5491 I agree...Honda only has NSX and S2k...Prelude, civic si, rsx are all crap!!!
BMW has 335i, e46 M3, 135i, M3, M5, M6 Nissan has GTR, 370z, G37 coupe....Audi has the A5, S3, s4, Rs4, rs5, Rs3, R8...Even Hyundai has Genesis coupe spec R!!!!
Come on Honda, get with the program and start producing RWD sports car like BMW..
Don't trust this review. The extra room is much appreciated and driving experience is unbelievable! The I4 sips gas and has nice power/torque.
But the V6 is the one to get since it transforms this fun ride into a rocket with torque/power/refinement ALL OVER the RPM range (Damn this V6 is sweet as hell ;)
This is what the current TL should have been. The only lows are that the V6 is pricey and no SH-AWD for this model. Like the BMW 3 series we know and love this Acura makes you WANT to drive =)
Man, InsideLine really did a number on this car. I recently test drove this model and came away amazed. Both the I4 and V6 are very much fun to drive (really fun ;)
But there is a some differences, like then 4 banger being lighter and the V6 being just balls out fast as F#CK! Even being a FWD car I really didn't notice that it wasn't RWD or AWD. I'm getting one of these bad boys in the coming weeks cause it really is a Japanese equivalent BMW 3 series car! (drive one trust me;)
Hmm... 280 divided by 2 = 140, maybe you guys should not under rate cars like that, it seems to me you need to do some research or take a math class before reviewing cars, and i want your job because insideline will hire any retard off the street! :)
how does the v6 almost double the 4-cyl? the 4 banger has 200hp and v6 has 280? not even close... and they should of put the rdx turbo 4 in rather then the v6.. all the tsx needed after 2009 was a little more torque my 2004 tsx is amazing i love hearing the engine rev to 7000 rpms
my sister was looking for a entry level lux sedan last month after her 325i died. she test drove the 335i and 328i and after talking with the sales rep the totals came up to 58k CAD and 52k respectively with navigation and sound packages. the 323i was too slow for her liking so we also decided to look at acura. She didnt like the TL's bulkiness so she chose the TSX v6 with the tech package. all in all the total came up to 43k. she bought the car and is since very pleased with it & saved $
People like you need to get educated with the Acura TSX. The Acura TSX can't have a Type S and will not have a Type S version. Why? The Acura TSX is really a Honda Accord Euro R or Honda Accord Type S in other countries. Meaning, Honda just took the Euro R/Type S model and made it into the TSX. How can you Type S something that is already technically a Type S Accord? Eh? Jeez. People that ask for Type S for TSX are stupid. TSX is a sporty Accord.
I like this car, and it's sporty looks have grown on me. Last time I was servicing my Acura, they gave me a 2010 TSX and it was a very nice car. It was the i4, but still pretty quick. I'd imagine the V6 model is as fast as the TL. Acura is giving 0$ on drive-off on both engine options which is huge!
I think this is a great idea for putting a V6 in it. It still gets excellent MPG. and is sporty. I just think we and edmunds are getting spoiled these days with such a massive variety and don't realize how awesome some of the features we wish we had in the past are now standard. This is a great looking car. If only they could make a coupe version of this!
The TSX is actually the Honda Accord in Japan and Europe. The U.S. Accord is actually the Honda Inspire in Japan which is a model above the japan/euro Accord. Honda of America has deceived the American public!
Im 24 years old and the last Acura i will ever buy is a first gen TSX 2004-2008. I just finished my masters degree, and I will be starting my new job in 2 weeks as an IT specialist for IBM. Once I get married and have my first child then i will consider a BMW/LEXUS I will never buy mercedes because they are quite ugly looking. For now i will be content with my TSX, besides a car is just a tool, im more capable of taking trips to europe and jamaica twice a ear and still manage my condo
Sales on the Acura have dropped big time with their new design. There are mixed reviews on the looks of the car, but imo it looks better than the previous model, but still doesnt seem to stand out in the crowd of luxury cars. I was offered $2000 below invoice on a new TSX V6 with tech package without having to haggle, approx $33500 for the car. Excellent price for what you get in options but the rebagged Honda Accord and average looking design pushed me to buy a Lexus 2010 IS250 instead.
@Jamzkangster i haven't done my research on Lexus too much but we took my friends iS-F on a 700+ mile (one way) road trip and it was extremely smooth the entire trip... not to mention we averaged 27-28mpg the whole way...
if the iS 250 is as useless as you kinda make it to be... what's the point of it?? lol...
I was responding to the idiot that said, why get a TSX when u can get a TL and RL. i was only retorting back.
Also, the IS250 is smooth, on well paved road, but on uneven, slightly grouchy road, its a hard drive. And apparently, it's not useless, since I ended up leasing a 2008 model (this july is my end agreement.) I'm just saying, its a lil overpriced for what it is, and isn't classes above the spectacular TSX
@Jamzkangster my comment was basically agreeing with you that the iS isn't a great car with the exception of the iS-F... my question was rhetorical...
I don't think this car was designed to handle the V6, that's what's missing. Maybe the redesign will be better. For nearly $38,000 with tech pkg you may as well go for the TL or G37
WOW..After wacthing this..Im not sure Honda/Acura knows what it wants to do any more..This is bassially and Accord V6 with a diffrent Body and Higher Price..And the TL/RL are to pricey for there little performance...Plus honda cuts S2000 and NSX..it just seems like there moves latley shows confusion
the tsx isnt a replacement for the rsx. they dropped the rsx and just needed a car to be called the entry level car. also by american standards its a mid-size car so u cant compare it to the 3 series and a4 like the old car. also the the tsx is really just, wait for it............ the true honda accord :D the current honda accord in america is actually called the honda inspire. just look it up. rebranding is dumb. :p
one other thing, wasn't the TSX meant to replace the RSX?...well if so then they drifted a long way from that. I miss the RSX. dunno what Acura is doing. TSX and TL pretty much at same price...dont understand what they are aiming for by doing that.
"blazer359" The 08 Gen TSX w/ 6 speed is faster than the IS250, Audi A4, and 328i. So how is it not sporty? The TSX runs 0-60 in 7 secs with 6speed. IS250 8 seconds, Audi A4 7.8, BMW 328i 7.6.
Let's start bucking the mindless trend of more and follow the 370Z lead of less weight - what is a V6 TSX? an enlarged entry level TL...less is more, strip the high tech /add a turbo 4, AWD can be an option just like the 6 speed manual and you have a car that breaks the remains true to the original concept, let the TL/RL be the overweight techno bling cads and leave the TSX the light- middle weight.
Good job, Acura! Keep cannibalizing your sales by further muddling your lineup and further confusing the people as to which car to buy. ("Should I buy the TSX V6 or the base TL? What's the difference, besides the price?" "Should I buy ~$17000 more for the RL when it has 5 hp less than the TL SH-AWD, suspension soft enough to float on the clouds, but also has a nice thick plank of wood on the dashboard?")
the new TL's look like shit. and it's not stick anymore. The TSX isn't really that bad it kinda looks like the 04-08 TL. i'm not sure about this but i think because a lot of people hate the new TL they decided to make the TSX V6 with a 6 speed manual transmission :-D new TLs is the new RL and the old guys in their late 40s and 50s enjoy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Acura really disappointed me with their current lineup of cars. The old TSX, TL, and RL were three of my favorite cars at the time. This new "next-gen" look sucks. Glad I bought my TSX in 08.
Acura - ill tell you whats wrong with this car. it needs bi-xenon lights, LED taillights and brakelight, more unique side-mirror blinkers, AWD and weight reduction, and if you wanted to take it over the top, some white LED strips on the front.
if you did these things, you'd have a class beater. SERIOUSLY GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.
You get your shit together. It already has bi-xenon head lights. AWD and weight reduction we'll be the same AWD adds weight reductions shavea a few pounds unless you take out everything. Plus the whole LED fronts is just copying Audi plus they are so annoying for drivers on road seeing these white beeds below.
I have the 09 4 cylinder. It has plenty of power and i think this V6 is useless. The point of the TSX was to be more fuel efficient and better handling then the TL and cheaper. The V6 will cost almost as much as a base TL and fuel economy will be the same as the TL.
So now this luxury brand has 2 FWD V6 cars which are about the same in size and power.
Yes allstarhs, but only if you are comparing the 04-06,& 07-08 TL to this new TSX. If you look at the new TL, holy-crud, that thing is a freaking boat!
Acura has to come up with a V8 now! Why? Because the RL has been bested by the SH-AWD TL. If the RL doesn't come back with more ooomph, Acura might as well dump the RL.
@legendray2008 I agree with you on that, but think about it: Take a stock 4-cylinder TSX with the Tech package which can run you about....$32k and change. On a fully-loaded accord with nav, you're talking an extra $2-3k for a bigger engine that produces just 10hp SHY of a stock TSX V6 (which I think it's pretty pointless on Honda's part) and the Accord doesn't even come with a damn USB port! Besides, the Accord's nav doesn't come with RT Traffic like Acura's. :)
@mokos23 I agree, and if your timing is right, you can even catch up to a stock 335i or an S5 for that matter easy. Edmunds are WAY too conservative on straight-line testing.
Acura is basically rebadged Honda from Japan. In Japan, all Acura cars are sold as Honda. but they created Acura brand for the American market, so people will buy more. just like Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti
That may be true, but the quality and performance between the base brands and their luxury cousins is reason enough for the name change. Not to say that the base brands are crappy, because they are not. But again the performance and quality in the luxuries are a step up.
Also, thats the nature of business and their model is working. Those who can will buy the Infinitis and Lexus. Those who can't can still get a great car in Toyota, Honda and Nissan.
The reason Acura does not make a RWD of this car is because of the cost. This is basically a rebadge of the UK Accord which is a FWD. making it a RWD will be cost disadvantage to them.
A better approach would be making a SH-AWD to this car. But Honda wants you to spend more to get the feature so you need to buy a TL to get it. Also, factoring in the cost of this means less room for profit, pricing it higher will attract less buys as they will pick BMW / Audi for the price.
THIS IS BS, i mean it still comes with a 4 cyld but now you can get a 6! and the accord has had a v6 forever so whats the problem? its typical for honda and the 6cyld is still an efficient engine.
Acura will probably Introduce a V8 soon, So that's probably why they are uping It to a V6.They'll put the V8 in the TL and the MDX. It'll probably be a small V8 like a 4.0Liter with an optional Turbo or something like that.
yes tats why ppl with BMW pull up next to u in there base model and u also have a base model Acura u try to smoke em and instead u get smoked instead...
i fink they shud make a sport version of the Tsx like a A- Spec version like the last gen and a new grill like a mesh cuz the new grill doesn't look too good
Insideline is quite right. Honda were great because of what they were. But over the years I think Honda has been standing still (not investing enough for RWD, V6 or at all V8). Ever since they started designing car into some radical shape, to shake off their boring design reputation, they started to lose their plot. Even in this car, it's just a V6 dumped in to the car. still 280hp from any other Honda cars. You can even tell how un-nimble it is on the slalom
Really? 6.4 only? Waste. They should've dropped the Inline4 Turbo into the TSX instead of the V6. A manual first gen TSX can do 0-60 in 7 seconds, with good shifts of course. It's only a .6 sec faster. Which seems kinda shitty compared to the increase of power he got. You can get better results if you just buy an aftermarket turbo and put it onto a first gen TSX.
@305pride What's the point? The 280 horsepower has quite enough power to compete with the 3-series in a straight-line. Sure, a stock TSX V6 will smoke the 328i with an extra 50 ponies, but once you get your timing right, you can catch up to the 335 easy.
Check out the VW GTI MKV 4 cylinder, 2L turbocharged engine. test drive one, small beasts! haha but the R32 is the V6 version of the GTI. but i like the 4cylinders. personal preferance.
i think this is a good idea. cars like the integra and the rsx are more sporty and tuner like while the tsx is more of a luxury car. i think putting the four cylinder in this car turned a lot of people off to it.
now what they really should do is bring back the legend.
How does it almost double the output?!?! 201 (I4 output) x 2= 402, not 280 (V6 output)

JackRABBITslim27 2 years ago
WOW..After wacthing this..Im not sure Honda/Acura knows what it wants to do any more..This is bassially and Accord V6 with a diffrent Body and Higher Price..And the TL/RL are to pricey for there little performance...Plus honda cuts S2000 and NSX..it just seems like there moves latley shows confusion
JackRABBITslim27 2 years ago
As a TL owner I must ask: You would buy a brand new TSX V-6 over an AWD version of the 328i or G37?
I would like to buy another Acura in the future but they are not giving me any good choices. With 280 or more horsepower I don't want FWD.
TheNewMrCool 2 years ago
good point
ModelAirports 2 years ago
@TheNewMrCool Why would you compare the 328 with the G37? G37 vs. the 335, yes, but 328? We're talking 230 vs. an extra 100 hp bump up for the G.

Ironically it's not an American car Edmunds because the TSX V6 is made in Japan.
mokos23 2 years ago 2
the tsx isnt a replacement for the rsx. they dropped the rsx and just needed a car to be called the entry level car. also by american standards its a mid-size car so u cant compare it to the 3 series and a4 like the old car. also the the tsx is really just, wait for it............ the true honda accord :D the current honda accord in america is actually called the honda inspire. just look it up. rebranding is dumb. :p
KaiSu 2 years ago
well in guessing by 2012 there gonna make a V6 si.
zgookgumby 2 years ago
ummm..this is pretty much pointless, the car is ugly and shouldn't be a V6, they should just stick with their accords
Jakinleyimu 2 years ago
one other thing, wasn't the TSX meant to replace the RSX?...well if so then they drifted a long way from that. I miss the RSX. dunno what Acura is doing. TSX and TL pretty much at same price...dont understand what they are aiming for by doing that.
lilmasterarj 2 years ago
"blazer359" The 08 Gen TSX w/ 6 speed is faster than the IS250, Audi A4, and 328i. So how is it not sporty? The TSX runs 0-60 in 7 secs with 6speed. IS250 8 seconds, Audi A4 7.8, BMW 328i 7.6.
NigguhJason 2 years ago
Let's start bucking the mindless trend of more and follow the 370Z lead of less weight - what is a V6 TSX? an enlarged entry level TL...less is more, strip the high tech /add a turbo 4, AWD can be an option just like the 6 speed manual and you have a car that breaks the remains true to the original concept, let the TL/RL be the overweight techno bling cads and leave the TSX the light- middle weight.
Veee8 2 years ago
I guess this V-6 version's primary competitors are the Maxima Sport and its own TL brother.
All nice carsm but I would have this one over those two. Add SH-AWD Acura!

Let's hope they make 6 sp manual version or at least offer awd with the TSX in the future
mokos23 2 years ago
the new TL's look like shit. and it's not stick anymore.

SERIOUSLY GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.
ironchopsticks 2 years ago
You get your shit together. It already has bi-xenon head lights. AWD and weight reduction we'll be the same AWD adds weight reductions shavea a few pounds unless you take out everything. Plus the whole LED fronts is just copying Audi plus they are so annoying for drivers on road seeing these white beeds below.
CauseWereAsian 2 years ago
look rice dick, the acura tsx DOES NOT have bi-xenon lights. it's reagular HID's.
and BMW manages to have AWD at a higher power output at a LOWER weight.
and the premium brands are moving towards LED daytimes; look at Jaguar, Merc and Audi.
now go cook me some pork flied lice, stupid rick dick.

I have the 09 4 cylinder. It has plenty of power and i think this V6 is useless. The point of the TSX was to be more fuel efficient and better handling then the TL and cheaper. The V6 will cost almost as much as a base TL and fuel economy will be the same as the TL.
So now this luxury brand has 2 FWD V6 cars which are about the same in size and power.
allstarhs 2 years ago
Yes allstarhs, but only if you are comparing the 04-06,& 07-08 TL to this new TSX. If you look at the new TL, holy-crud, that thing is a freaking boat!

legendray2008 2 years ago
@legendray2008 I agree with you on that, but think about it: Take a stock 4-cylinder TSX with the Tech package which can run you about....$32k and change. On a fully-loaded accord with nav, you're talking an extra $2-3k for a bigger engine that produces just 10hp SHY of a stock TSX V6 (which I think it's pretty pointless on Honda's part) and the Accord doesn't even come with a damn USB port! Besides, the Accord's nav doesn't come with RT Traffic like Acura's. :)
Beatle1107 1 year ago
0-60 in 6.4 sec? that's slow compared to the G37 sedan, which gets 0-60 in 5 seconds flat and it's the same price as the TSX V6.

@mokos23 I agree, and if your timing is right, you can even catch up to a stock 335i or an S5 for that matter easy. Edmunds are WAY too conservative on straight-line testing.

Acura is basically rebadged Honda from Japan. In Japan, all Acura cars are sold as Honda. but they created Acura brand for the American market, so people will buy more. just like Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti
trickedout08 2 years ago 3
That may be true, but the quality and performance between the base brands and their luxury cousins is reason enough for the name change. Not to say that the base brands are crappy, because they are not. But again the performance and quality in the luxuries are a step up.
Also, thats the nature of business and their model is working. Those who can will buy the Infinitis and Lexus. Those who can't can still get a great car in Toyota, Honda and Nissan.

MegaMaster456 2 years ago
The reason Acura does not make a RWD of this car is because of the cost. This is basically a rebadge of the UK Accord which is a FWD. making it a RWD will be cost disadvantage to them.
A better approach would be making a SH-AWD to this car. But Honda wants you to spend more to get the feature so you need to buy a TL to get it. Also, factoring in the cost of this means less room for profit, pricing it higher will attract less buys as they will pick BMW / Audi for the price.

Acura will probably Introduce a V8 soon, So that's probably why they are uping It to a V6.They'll put the V8 in the TL and the MDX. It'll probably be a small V8 like a 4.0Liter with an optional Turbo or something like that.

You can even tell how un-nimble it is on the slalom

vtecboi18 2 years ago 6
Really? 6.4 only?
NigguhJason 2 years ago 5

305pride 2 years ago
@305pride What's the point? The 280 horsepower has quite enough power to compete with the 3-series in a straight-line. Sure, a stock TSX V6 will smoke the 328i with an extra 50 ponies, but once you get your timing right, you can catch up to the 335 easy.
