I know from shooting them with a scattergun that if you wait untill they "top off" yyou got a good chance at hitting them. This is when they stop rising in flight and sorta hang in the air for a split second before they start to move forward again.

Would love to bowhunt pheasant with my long bow,just curious, what type of heads did you use?if you used broadheads do you allow your dogs to retrieve?I would be worried about them being injurded by a broadhead.Great video and nice shot.

@porchfinder Broadheads were a mixture of different brands for different archers. The dogs were trained to be called off of arrow hit birds, so it wasn't a problem. Bird dogs are usually trained to retrieve birds after the report of a shotgun, so using the bows confused the dogs to where the owner had to tell when and when not to retrieve.

What sort of tip, do you use a broadhead? You should try the G5 SGH it whops. Good shooting you had good line up in almost all the shots.

Although I'd love to try the G5 SGH, Pennsylvania rules only allow broadheads. They must also meet a 7/8" minimum cutting diameter.

Check out our Flu Flu Shots video and you'll see how we practice for the pheasants. The aireal disks make it look like hunting pheasants with the bow would be easy, but the birds don't fly in predictable patterns.

That is a command to let the dog know that the bird is down and to retrieve it for the hunter. The dogs don't always see the bird fall.
