Germans are not naive and were not when Hitler took power. They were hungry, financially destitute, and suffered worse in the Depression era than did the US (and that's bad). Hitler promised to end the suffering and did. They did not think it would create WWII. By the time they realized their error it was too late.
During the surrender at Stalingrad all Germans did look awful (surrounded, out of supplies, etc.). Until that point I think the movie was trying to show the difference between vets and replacements and what war can do to men. This "style" has been used in many movies like "Platoon".
Stupid ass movie. Why are some of the soldiers in rags and starving and others are clean, well dressed and teasing the dirty ones with bread? I've seen a lot of video on the surrender at Stalingrad and except for the high ranking officers, all the soldiers looked like hell. There werent any that had nice clean uniforms on. Shit even the officers looked pretty bad. And yes, the Germans lost but I dont believe most were cowards or conscientious objectors.
Good movie. Has you wanting these boys to just make it home. I think anyone thats been to war can relate to the events in this movie and the comradery shared between these men.

Not getting into the country VS country debate that is happening here in the comments.. However, as an American, who is normally exposed to one-sided films regarding WWII, I absolutely loved this film because it showed merely SOME of the struggles our "enemy" endured, all the while not presenting ANY side or faction as being the superior. I found this to be a sincere reminder that we are all people, and we ALL suffer needlessly in the event of a war. I appreciate seeing the German point of view.

The Nazis and their army were brutal and inflicted a great deal of suffering in Europe, but we must not forget that many were conscripted into service under duress. Some deserted, and some refused to carry orders, but we never see how they battled with their moral compass in such a time as WW II. This movie brings out the good in some of the German soldiers. Others enjoyed their role as emissary of the devil (Hitler).
One of the BEST foreign movies I've seen second to another German movie called "John Rabe" made in 2009 and is about a German businessman who was like Schindler, he saved many Chinese from the brutal Japanese in 1938. This video is almost as powerful as John Rabe story. I'm sorry to say that American movies about WWII is often slanted and falling short of two sides of the story.

I've seen SPR and Das Boot about fifteen(15) times each. Band of Brothers, U-571, Letters of Iwo Jima and so on, I've watched about 7-10 times. @MarineCorps413- actually,you are more correct. The first Nuremberg trials were very wide spread in there charges and never specifically dealt with the camps. The American's had a secondary Nuremberg trial that dealt with each conspirator and camp inside West Germany and in American control.

During the surrender at Stalingrad all Germans did look awful (surrounded, out of supplies, etc.). Until that point I think the movie was trying to show the difference between vets and replacements and what war can do to men. This "style" has been used in many movies like "Platoon".

Stupid ass movie. Why are some of the soldiers in rags and starving and others are clean, well dressed and teasing the dirty ones with bread? I've seen a lot of video on the surrender at Stalingrad and except for the high ranking officers, all the soldiers looked like hell. There werent any that had nice clean uniforms on. Shit even the officers looked pretty bad. And yes, the Germans lost but I dont believe most were cowards or conscientious objectors.

Not getting into the country VS country debate that is happening here in the comments.. However, as an American, who is normally exposed to one-sided films regarding WWII, I absolutely loved this film because it showed merely SOME of the struggles our "enemy" endured, all the while not presenting ANY side or faction as being the superior. I found this to be a sincere reminder that we are all people, and we ALL suffer needlessly in the event of a war. I appreciate seeing the German point of view.

The Nazis and their army were brutal and inflicted a great deal of suffering in Europe, but we must not forget that many were conscripted into service under duress. Some deserted, and some refused to carry orders, but we never see how they battled with their moral compass in such a time as WW II. This movie brings out the good in some of the German soldiers. Others enjoyed their role as emissary of the devil (Hitler).

One of the BEST foreign movies I've seen second to another German movie called "John Rabe" made in 2009 and is about a German businessman who was like Schindler, he saved many Chinese from the brutal Japanese in 1938. This video is almost as powerful as John Rabe story. I'm sorry to say that American movies about WWII is often slanted and falling short of two sides of the story.

@MarineCorps413- actually,you are more correct. The first Nuremberg trials were very wide spread in there charges and never specifically dealt with the camps. The American's had a secondary Nuremberg trial that dealt with each conspirator and camp inside West Germany and in American control.
