  • Wait what are your lens again?!

  • So when i installed my battery grip. whenever i put it on remote mode. the other button wont work. why is this? and it was working. how would i use the vertical and the regular one?

  • @Chaarmaarc the D40/60/3000/5000 family of cameras are not designed to use grips. It's perfectly acceptable to use one, but Nikon didn't design a way for the grip to communicate with the camera. when using the IR sensor, only the IR source (the grip in this case) will trigger the shutter. You have to switch back to a standard shooting mode to use the regular shutter release. I would set the function button to change your release mode. Then you can change between modes significantly faster.

  • hey can you like...take consecutive shots while holding it down (the vertical grip) or you have to take like individual shots...? cuz i'm thinking about using it for sports...though it's for portrait...

  • @BigK2G I believe you can take repeated shots in IR mode. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this particular product though. I would recommend the Phottix BP-D60. It's more sturdy, doesn't have battery trays to lose, there are fewer steps to using it, and the finish more closely matches the camera.

  • it's working on D3100? plz answer

  • @videoconmigo no it doesn't

  • hi..you know if i can use to D3100

  • the battery grip looks like some chunky block from the back of the Nikon camera

  • skateboarder?

  • this work on d3000

  • i hate how the battery grip for the d40,d40x,d60,d3000 is so ugly u can tell it dosent even flow with the camera, i havve the d5000 and the 3rd party grip is nice

  • Please help my, when can i by this grip in the spain. Thanks

  • Nice review. Didn't know you could get a battery pack for the D60.

  • love the grip! and the lens!lol. keep it up man!

  • More MPx only.

  • what is the difference from the d40 and d40x?

  • @sardo97 more mp in d40x

  • I wish Nikon made a battery grip for the D40/60, or even supported the feature. I don't know much about this, but if you take out the battery and look inside, there seems to be some contacts there for a proper vertical shutter. Who knows? :)

  • Your video was very informative...I recently purchased a D5000 and the grip installed in the same fashion...good explanation of the vertical trigger...the set up on the D5000 is slight different but the concept is the same...you have been very helpful!!!

  • can you please tell me what Lens you have on your camera in this video?

  • @samboking its the Sigma 10-20mm F/4.5-5.6 EX HSM..

  • Im in Germany, and I cannot find one for my D60! I need it badly.

  • i had to say thank you for the video. i bought the targus grip yesterday for my d69 and i couldn't get the vertical shutter to go but your video helped so much! thank you so much!

  • very helpful and informative video! thank you!

  • i bought one from amazon and it autofocuses when shooting, but then the vertical shutter release broke and had to get it replaced. Now it doesn't focus anymore, but it works :(

  • I know you say in here it doesnt autofocus, but mine autofocuses with the d-60

  • i bought mine for loads less 30$

  • How the heck did you do that?

  • ebay!!! i know it was so cheap free shipping as well it also has a shutter release, exactly the same as the on reviewed, i guess i was lucky, it was new aswell

  • That's Amazing!!

  • i am in the uk it was £22.99

  • Comment removed

  • new lends 18-400 is very fanny.

  • Thanks so much for the review. Been looking for a grip for a little while and was leaning towards this grip. now that I have seen the review, I will get this one and try it out, thanks again

  • money?????

  • what lens are you using on your D40?

  • it's a 10-20mm lens from sigma!^^

  • i.c ... great video,

hi, is there any one could tell me

what does it mean , AF lens will not gonna work with d40x ? ex. if i press half way it will not focus to the subject?? pls. tell me... im planning to buy d40x .. so im investing my knowledge first...

  • basicly means that , if u press the side shutter release , it wont autofocus , i will just take a picture of the current possibly blurry subject if you havnt focused on the selected subject

the D40 x will autofocus with the shutter that is actually on the camera body

  • when you pres the shutter it auto focuses the takes the picture, on my d60`

  • Does anyone know if you can use the normal shutter release if the vertical one is turned on? Or will it only use one or the other?

  • Can use both, not like at the exact same time but you can yes.

  • Yeah, I just don't want to have to change the setting EVERY time I want to switch between the two. A lot of times when I'm out I switch between the two to get different compositions and that would be a lot of menu swapping.

  • I received my battery grip, unfortunately to use the original release you DO have to swap settings every time :-( sorry.

  • If you look at the video he half presses the original shutter release to focus, that wouldnt be possible if it cancels the signal from your original shutter release when the portrait shutter is in use, im getting one of these soon aswell. im sure you wont have a problem, all you would have to do anyway is pop that little button back in. hope ive helped :-)

  • no it will just focus

  • Thanks for posting this review, no doubt now to order it!

  • it makes it look like a nikon d3 lol

  • yeah but the dwarf version lol. the D3 has a son!!!

I just bought a 70-300mm lens for use with my D700 and when I fixed it onto my D40x it looked crazy lol.

I think I might buy this grip si ply to even the look out haha

  • it's 70 dollars now D:

  • good review, i just wish the vertical shutter button was more thought about though :D I like,.

  • Great, but teach yourself not to say "um" :)

  • can you use one battery with it?

  • yes

  • @justsomekid2 With only one ? so it works if i only use ONE battery , not 1 pair .

  • where can I buy a grip for nikon d60? thanks!

  • Thank you so much - I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get that battery cover off.

  • 18-20mm lens with lenshood?

  • Listen carefully. 10-20 Sigma.

    I got a 17-70mm f/2.8

  • Does the grip have the "splatter" design?

  • I dont think so, im searchin one with this splatter design too, i think the grip must be better.

  • my grip just came in, has a splatter design but the black plastic is a bit off from the Nikon's

  • thats awesome

    thanks for making this video

  • Makes it looka lot comfier and nicer (shallow I know.) Considering getting one

  • Your camera with the grip and that evil looking lense, looks the absolute buisseness!Im getting one of these grips for my d40x.

  • it is super good

  • does the battery grip make it more frames per second ?

    thats what i heard.

  • nope

  • darnit, :[

  • only if its a NIKON or CANON made grips..

like the canon 40d grip makes it go from 6.5 to 8 fps

  • I heard that to. On a more professional video if i can remember correctly.

  • this one comes with two spare batteries tho

  • @JesseeLB when multiple batteries are in, it is common for the speed to raise

  • @zpollack96 yes. but very very slightly. there will be no drastic improvement in speed.

  • Nikon is Nice.

    end your video too nice.

  • i hate those battery grips. they make the dslrs bigger then wat they already are. are they just for better grip and longer battery life? because if thats the case then just carry extra batterys. and dslrs feel real good in ur hands anyways i dont c why u need even more balance then wat u already have.

  • D40 D60 series are quite small comparing them to there bigger brothers D80/D90/D300/D700. People with bigger hands often find them hard to hold on to...

  • Well kiddo, grips are awsome for portrait photos and such, i just like it bec it makes the body bigger (like the Mark 3's)

  • lol yea i know i just dont like how much bigger it makes the cam

  • Thanks for the video I used your video to install the Targus Grip I purchased yesterday. I got mine a Wal Mart no online ordering $100.00 bucs works well.

  • I received one today and so far I love it for the vertical shutter release because I do alot of portoriats.

However, you said that it doesn't AF.

I use it on my D60 and it does AF. It AF and then it snaps the picture right away. But I have the Targus brand and not the Opteka. So I don't know about the AF thing.

  • maybe I wasnt clear. but it does Auto focus, you just cant hold down the shutter release halfway to preview what it is autofocusing on, it just takes the picture on whatever the focus point is on

  • Damn dude, you're rough with your camera, lol.

    But thansk for the video.

I have a question however. Due to the fact that I have 2 batteries, will it use both batteries so that I can have more shooting time?

  • Once it uses up one it will use up the other

  • Awsome!

    Thanks.

  • Gee, thanks.... I just had to run off and buy one.

    Seriously; thanks for the demo

  • I own a D40 and believe it'll do 2.5 frames per second. Would it increase to maybe 5 or more with the battery pack?

  • the frame rate wont increase with the grip

  • how much longer is the battery life with the 2 batterys?

  • maybe 2000 shots er so

  • What lens is that?

  • sigma 10-20

  • Nice man, I was looking for a grip for D60.

Does it fit on more models [other than d40 x d60]?

  • I have this very grip, and yes, it fits the Nikon D40, D40x and D60. Amazon is selling the same grip (by Targus) for $41.00 total as we speak!!!

  • Yeah it's a place on here called EssentialElectronics and they're selling it but I don't know how much.

But I'm sure it's alot cheaper than $100

  • nice man

  • Thanks for taking the time. Your review was a big part of me order a battery grip for my Nikon D40x. I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to beefing up my Nikon D40x a bit. I love the smaller size, but at times I want a larger camera body. Now I can have both!

    ¡Gracias!

  • glad to help

  • My grip came today! I honestly love it. It really makes the camera fit my hands well. I'll still use it without the grip when I hike and travel, but most of the time, it will stay on. Many thanks for your review.

  • Wow!!!!!!!, That Nikon was Huge..

  • dude that thing is tiny.. he just has small hands.
