  • radiation, earthquake, tsunami, barbaric whale massacre (as if they are WWII prisoners), astonishingly racist and ill-willed group of people = Japanese. too much radiation has affected their brains to act like brainless mob of zombies. Japanese in general are warmongers and awesome hypocrites.

  • i looked at the title and my first thoughts were "well nothing is perfect"

  • up the word "gaijin" bothers me too. I go to Japan for work every year and speak passable Japanese. Laughing at mistakes is fine but some people said once,"oh gaijin-san is speaking Japanese to us. interesting" About the pushing and shoving, I kind of got used to that. But parking 2,000 bicycles all along a no-bicycle sidewalk is REALLY annoying for blind people. When I knocked it over -- their own fault.

  • Japan is the country of Earthquake~

  • I would punch someone if they pushed me for no reason like that. Or at least push back. That's really rude. 私が嫌いな人押さないでください

  • People always think that Americans are ignorant of the world and shit, but I think now it's the world is ignorant of America. Everyone is an asshole now.

  • @dragonbreathstinks You're right we are ranked #14 in the world, and you know as if America doesn't have the best colleges but what ever you say

  • Japan has the highest suicide rate in the world.

  • Japanese r born hypocrites, they treat u smilingly but show the whites of eyes after u turned back,

Japs are like the most evil snakes. They are quiet, pretend to be polite.

  • @Lazaro831201 please, have some respect

  • The reason why you get bunch of bad comments from anyone is because you posted your bad feeling about Japan on Youtube. I also have bad impression about other countries as well and I don't post any behavioral clips because humans in general has this behavior to defend their culture, philosophy, and pride about themselves. So, if I were you, Joshua I would just let it go.

  • @30kkom

it`s called freedom of speech sir.

  • Japan sucks cuz girls are fugly and guys are short as a dwarf.

  • @jjsj93 IDIOT.

  • @sourmanofcoal respect other culture and people

  • @junyo785

Learned it from ya japanese rats. Got problem madafucka?

  • Japan = blown by radiation many time.

JAPAN = Perfect place to test radiation

  • This girl ah really very got problem, everyone got their pros and cons, not everybody is perfect.

  • just tell him(or her) to shut the fuck up!

    over

  • Every country has stereotypes and people dumb enough to believe them, I thought youtube's comment section has had that settled a long time ago. A former friend of mine who's really into most-everything Japan told me that she's discouraged to go (university) b/c she told me that no matter how well she can speak Japanese or is really blended into the culture the people will still not acknowledge her as one.

  • Great video , i like ti

  • @JoshuainJapan Not really. No seriously now. I wasn't serious at all. I was bored and didn't really pay attention to what i was typing. I apologize if i offended you. It's not really bullshit, this video has some valid points in it. I'll remove that comment at once. Sorry for my rudeness.

  • @FinalFantasyCenter it's a shame you learned English.

  • @Floodlezoot Alright, if you say so.

  • I wonder if this guy ever had a Japanese talk to him about America dropping the A-bobmbs on Japan and how they feel about it.

  • @SuperYT4Ever Actually they're very polite in that sense and never bring it up, but I love history and do bring up topics about WWII and Fukushima because both things should be prevented in the future. The older generation either has gone to screw you mode (very rare), or a more forgiving almost awesomely zen state of mind realizing war is bad all over. The latter are the people I respect and strive to become one day.

  • @JoshuainJapan It seems strange that in 2008 Japanese persist in these behaviours .That's the way it was for gaijin when i was born there nearly 40 years ago.In my circles we were different, but a lot depends on where you live and who you are prone to encounter.

  • turn off ur freaking music please....noisy as fuck

  • I might add another thing. I know this is true that Japanese people use native English speakers since it is well documented on youtube. Yet, I lived in Kyushu for a year (rural) and that never ever happened to me. Was I just in an area that few people learned English so that didn't happen? Was I just lucky? I don't deny that it happens all the time. But mysteriously, I escaped that stereotype, but the others remind me of life there. It's a nice place, anyhow.

  • as a correction though, Japanese is IN FACT the hardest language in the world to learn for an English native speaker, though it basically ties with Korean. But this is proven by the fact that the US state department gives the longest study time to government workers going to Japan. They realize that Japanese takes the most hours and the results are the least rewarding for their public servants. That's basically scientific proof. For English speakers, Japanese is the world's hardest.

  • @Floodlezoot IN FACT is going to far.

Also, the time given by US state departments take into account all aspects of culture, not only the language. Japan as happens to be a very high-context culture whereas America, like many EU countries have a much lower-context culture. If they'd give you only language training and sent you over to Japan to do business without knowledge of their culture / way of acting you'd most likely fuck up all opportunities of a successful relation within a day.

  • @ShadowProgs well, without resorting to blows. All languages have closely attached cultural context. But the fact is that "context culture" blends into idioms, which blends into just ways of speaking. So regardless of the fact that they "say one thing and mean another" often, that is de facto part of the language. What exactly is your point? That if Japan changes its entire culture and history, their language would be 3rd hardest? 4th hardest? easiest? What the fuck is your point?

  • @Floodlezoot I'm sure it's also because of the culture and our close relationship with them. I did look up the information and you're a bit right, but wrong in the sense that I'm arguing. The reason Japanese and Korean are on the list is because of the Kanji. I was arguing speaking, vocab, basic communication. It's not too hard at all. Of course I would never say learning kanji (Chinese characters) was easy. Just an FYI

  • @JoshuainJapan well, I might point out that Korean has a shorter alphabet (no kanji at all) than English. It's writing system is easier than the Latin alphabet, yet it remains as hard to learn roughly as Japanese in terms of the US government training. It takes the same number of hours. It's similar grammar to Japanese so I think maybe Japanese and Korean are not just hard because of writing, but whatevsky. Whatevsky.....

  • this video was awesome. comedy gold, except a bit specific for a general american audience.

  • I agree. Japan ruled south korea long time ago. The Japanese people commanded the south koreans to bow to them, or they get killed.

  • I can totally relate you, most on my Japanese friends only wants to speak to me in English...never in Japanese. Sometimes I get the feeling that they always tend to call me whenever they feel like they need to brush up on their English skills. It's so frustrating!

  • This was a GREAT account.

  • @milkjamjuice I'm trying to come back, but I'm lazy = (

  • Next time they pull that bs stereotype shit..... tell them they are an island race that suffers from inbreeding, which result in them being short and having shitty teeth.

And next time they say u cant speak japanese, tell them to pronounce lollipop

  • @crownaq Way to be a fucking hypocrite

  • Good video. I loved how you explained Japan so well. Most people don't really get this XD. Love Japan, but gaahh, it can be frustrating sometimes.

  • lol, grass is always greener on the other side. You get Japanese people wanting to speak English to you. I get Japanese people assuming I'm Japanese, and I'm struggling to keep up with the conversation and end up sounding like a bumbling retard.

  • woow, i would like to live in japan too =DD

i´m from mexico and the japanese language pronunciation is like the same as in spanish xD i´m learning french and i HATE it... all the GRRR.. HH... GHHH... sounds are fcking just too hard.. =SS

oh.. mexico IS in america xD no problem though

veery nice vid =PPP i would REALLY LOOVE to live there i hope i can at least visit japan soon =P or maybe even live there some time in some years =P (im 18)

thnx a LOT for the video it was really cool =D

  • good stuff but the part i didnt understand was that when you was ordering food and wanted the cashier to speak to you in japanese why didnt you just ask him in his language "please speak to me in japanese"??

  • good stuff

  • Fantastic video! All your observations were true within my experience as well. All in all they're small gripes. I still LOVE Japan! But, it's nice to vent and find out that other people have made the same observations.

  • The only thing I had a problem with when I was in Japan was Godzilla. I doubt he will ever try to mess with me again.

  • No mercy, boy! LOL

  • So wait, are you fluent in Japanese or just kind of 50 / 50?

  • Japanese are awesome

  • you mention some interesting points. but seriously it HARD to hear what you're saying when you're listening to the album of one of my favorite bands in the background (ixnay).

  • The background music is unbearable... sorry, decide first wt you want us to listen to, your voice or your music.

  • All great points. As you say, personal opinions. Tolerance & personality will play a part in things

  • japs have the smallest dicks and are the pussiest race on earth

  • @Dupe16118 that's why they are pedophile because they would never satisfy a WOMAN :D

  • @Dupe16118 lol

  • @Dupe16118 Nah that's the French. Dropped out of WW1 and 2.

  • Hei, don't worry about ppl thinking American all eat junk food. They probably get this idea from Hetalia, an anime representing each country as human charactors, and the charactor of US always eat JUNK FOOD!! You know a lot of Japanese get knowledge from anime so actually it's very cute of them to think so, imho.

BTW, the store clerk you met might just be too nervous to notice you speak Japanese or he might had some sort of ADD syndrome. There's all kind of posibilities.

  • Gaijin.

  • Booo Hoooo. White boy faces sterotypes!

I bet you would have done the same thing to a black person or Japanese person in the States.

  • @brightlights456X Being from LA I didn't have the luxury of that ridiculous behavior. Also considering all my uncles married people from other ethnicities, so I grew up with cousins from all over....I would say "Naw".

  • @JoshuainJapan

I'd forgotten all about this video. Thanks for the reply anyway.

  • I think this human is BAKA race. GO HOME!

  • This guy is educated just in highschool.

  • TURN OFF BGM! IDEOT

  • This boy had better go home without the knowledge about Japan.

  • Turn that fucking music off!!!!

  • Really, why do these kind of videos still exist? -.-

  • Japan is an island cut off the world and they know nothing about other cultures. They just have some "images" as they said. They just need to be educated, but some personns are stupid also, can't help it, it's international lol!

And for the one who think to know about tsunamis or earthquakes, you know nothing, just saying...

  • @simonced Is Japanese not educated? You are ignorance. The educated people rate of Japan is the top of the world.Almost electric thing you use are invented by Japanese. In casual living we don't need English. But

when people are writing english they will do it well. Casually we speak only Japanese. In 17 century, Japanese

literacy was already 60 %. Even farmers and town people could write and read. Some farmer had nobby of mathematics.

  • @kaisermuto Dude, you don't get my point.

I don't mean japanese people are stupid, I mean they don't have ideas about how things go in other countries. I know Japanese people are very smart. I speak with them EVERYDAY. I know what I'm speaking about. But when I hear stuff like: "all french have blue eyes" it's that what I mean since we don't all have blue eyes.

By the way living in japan doesn't require english. And your comment is full of grammar mistakes... Just saying,,,

  • @simonced nobby →→ HOBBY By the way this VIDEO man is not good english teacher rather than he thinks.

  • Just curious, where do you live in Japan? Because I heard that Japan can be more stereotypical in certain areas than others. For example, I went to Wakayama and didn't experience any negative stereotypes against me...

    Great video though! :)

  • @RogueBond007 Sorry for the late reply. I live in kanagawa near the surf, here it's not too bad. I guess most of the frustration happens in Tokyo as in all major cities. Anyways this video is old, but the points remain the same, but I would probably phrase them a bit better now.

  • and also how to express the other culture, you had better understand why you go to the country and what purpose you have. why you respect. so on so on.

without it, you never learn anything nice from the country which you go.

so Pazz, just have fun do not look bad thing. it is better off in the long run.thanks.

  • it is my frank opinion like your frank opinion.

are you satisfied? or think more nice. it helps you grow up.then ask someone to take a date. you waste prime time in your life.

in the United States, I never feel such a shit thing, because even though I saw bad thing, I do not need to say anything like you.

  • and I guess, you wanna take a date with Japanese ladies, but in fact, you did not make it. it sounds almost like does not it?

we can not buy it such a cheap mind like him. it means that we can see your brain-soul. so I advice you just go some around to smoke something in other countries. Pazz.thanksXD

  • there are bunch of steleotype beneath meXD

what I call is brainwashed by wrong history.I think. most good thing of Japan once we trust always trust. this is Japan.

he feel in Japan, he said his opinion, it is fine. but what is really his care?

he has furastration and selfish mind.that is it. so save his soul. lonely heart.thanks

  • fuck off and quite your bichin, cracker

  • lol bad things about japan - everything, the tsunami should have killed em all.

  • Japan can get another earthquake and tsunami

  • JAPS ARE IDIOTS.

  • The best thing to do is say you are french/italian/german or something like that and that you don't speak english.

  • i just randomly found your vid, but it's funny how Japan is supposedly advanced in robotics, yet they portray their women as docile & also robotic. Um, hello? Tee hee hee, cover my mouth. Tee hee hee. WTF? Get educated, tee hee.?

  • are you kidding? quite your bitching

Or make it sounds worse than it is. Gaijin doesnt mean even close to what hes saying, gaijin means non japanese it in no way means you dont belong what total crap. • @notti351 全く意味を成していない英語に翻訳。

  • its their way of being polite asshole

  • Japanese people are really friendly but they have a lot of strict rules. I live in Osaka and like School is really hard. Like you pretty much have to have good manners, especially if your from a different country(which i am) but overall Japan is a very wonderful and loving country. I love Japan and i do plan to stay for a long time.

  • I love Japan but yeah, there are a couple things that I dislike. ^^

  • Americans create stereotypes of all people and he is offended when they do the same ... ok

  • @SuperLomaaa Stereotypes been here for before the U.S. was created. They were stereotypes of black people, the Jewish, French, Chinese and British. The British people were the first to stereotype the Japanese. And just because he is an American dosn't mean he is the mainly resposible for creating all the stereotypes.

  • @marioskywalker64

Real Americans are a decent and honest people. I didn´t refer to these Americans. I refer to you.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperLomaaa How does that "refer to me"?

  • @SuperLomaaa cause america having raped over 8000 asian woman after ww2 up until 2010without even getting in trouble they just get shipped back to america slap on the wrist. some even 6+ gang raped kids and preg women in korea and japan. america is worse than japan could ever be. you just never hear about it

in south korea alone there are confirmed 1700+rapes by america soldiers that the crimes went unpunished. yet all we ever hear is japanese comfit women. totally forget about what america does

  • Good video, I lived in Osaka for a short stint about 8 months and I concur for the most part of your video. Like you I will say Japan and its people are great and I loved being there. I don't really know much in terms of the Gaijin label as I didn't have maybe more than 2 less than pleasurable experiences with related to it, but in contrast I will say that as a foreigner in Japan I really felt welcome!

  • Hahaha, same things happen in Korea. Many of my friends in Korea right now can speak Korean and sometimes people will try to speak English to them since they only see that they're white and only that. It's hilarious to watch xD

Very often, if not, they get a "Oh he speaks Korean!" moment and they have a normal conversation. You're experience is like mostly because a lot of foreigners don't bother learning the language when they travel there. I get your frustrations but keep practicing!

  • @YunSeung Great comment thanks and I will continue to practice! = )

  • the Japanese people are being nice and trying to have a conversation with you and your here bitching about it ? if u want them to speak Japanese u should say something in Japanese then they will realize u want to speak to them in the Japanese language it is your duty to show them that the stereotype of American is wrong.

  • ...but the thing about gaijin. i've never been called a gaijin or even a gaikokujin (though i would have expected that). i guess it depends on how you act (the more "foreign", the more they feel the need to "seperate" you from them)

  • @ichigomihhi You never even hear it behind you or on the trains or stores, also I don't act out. I am always well mannered when in any country.

  • haha totally know that feeling when some random japanese starts talking to you XD

  • Thank you for this video. I know your getting a lot of nasty comments, but I really appreciate hearing a well balanced opinion. I'm a big fan of people like you who can state the truth without getting worked up.

  • @theDifferentshine Took me long enough to find a good comment, but thanks a lot!

  • lol the bench

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Japanese need to learn etiquette.

  • I'm japanese. i wanna understand your speaking in english but can't do so . I'm sorry I can't hear what your speaking about.

  • Comment removed

  • @notti351 つまり,このビデオの本題は日本に住んでいるの利害得失ですね

  • @notti351 Message me and I will try to write it to you in Japanese. ; ) Thanks for being interested.

  • nihon jin wa egirishini nari ttai detsu!!!!! nihonkonangga dai KIRAI detsu!!!!!!!! XD

  • Thanks Joshua for a thoughtful reflection of certain behaviors and manners you found to be a bit negative. I think it's silly how most of the comments turn into an all-out comment war on racism based on... racist comments.

Everyone experiences something negative at some point in their lives traveling, and it does affect you personally. It doesn't make you hate the country or the people, it just gives you an added perspective of certain behavioral norms within the country.

  • @ix3bobbylee Sorry for the late reply. AWESOME comment! Thanks!

  • I don't know how you encountered all these people who tried to speak English to you. 90% of the people I had to speak with in Tokyo could not understand a word I said lol

  • Ya Hey Der ,I feel like I'm in a strange land when I cross the WI border into foreign Illinois in WI we call them flat landers they drive poorly are rude and loud mostly they bring bad things into our state. They can not hold there liqueur do not respect the Packers. Over all not one of us. Maybe its more human nature than culture.

  • I spent a year in Korea so i can relate to wht you are saying about foreign cultures but you nailed it when you say the Japs look down on other cultures. That's the reality between being an American from the US and being from say Japan. In Japan no matter how long you live there you will ALWAYS be a foreigner. In the US, a 2nd generation is usually considered an American, heck someone who has a green card is considered an American because we accept foreign citizens so openly.

  • 3:10 i get that all the time. jesus christ....

  • I'm sorry about the situation..but I think they are interested in you (or might want to speak English with you.)..that's why they want to ask about such as things. If I have a same situation, I wouldn't say anything to you (I think most Japanese people have same attitude.). I think it is kind of rare case. Also, you are good looking.. so many girls want to talk to you..I guess, but if you can speak Japanese, you can try to speak Japanese also..then they or ( she/he) may speak Japanese.

  • Americunts is the #1 Racist, #1 Terrorist #1 criminals #1 dictator

stop killing civilians, stop invading little countries, and STOP stealing money from Japan by threatening them with HAARP!

  • @USFullOfLies Stupid troll is stupid....

  • wow, youre sooooo handsome, and clever and cute ;)

  • nice, I respect your opinion, which are made based on real experience. U gave a brief daily life in Japan, haha. thx !! *waves*

  • I think instead of helping Japan we should just bomb them

  • It's actually in Japanese culture, it's not considered rude to shove people out of the way to get around them, as crazy as it may sound. Sure, if there's space around you to walk, you could probably take it as some racist thing or whatever you want to think of it

  • Use your skills in Japanese if you can, to respond to them instead of in English. Far out dude, stop complaining! I do the same thing when in Australia to talk to Japanese. I say こんにちは。 Is that wrong that I want to practice.

  • "I can't even push you back or say anything.." Lol, pretty true. And if by chance you do say something, you must be a really rude fellow =D

Of course Japanese people will never agree with you because, after all, you came all the way to Japan to experience new things (read better and more developed..) and, if you don't like, you can always go back home (sooner).

BTW, it actually works when you say "I don't speak English, I'm from Ukraine" or wherever you want... You still have to say it though.

  • Whatever you guys do or say, please remember that you live in a foreign country

and you need to follow the socially acceptable behavior of Japan.

Lastly, if you are not overall satisfied with your Japanese experiences

you ALWAYS have the option to go back HOME

please and thank you. Hope you all have a fantastic days !

  • the japs are arrogant fucks

  • japanese bitches suck a mean cock

  • Haha, I'm Vietnamese/Unknown European, and honestly, I really hate when Asians stereotype Americans. It's so irritating.

  • Good vid mate, I spent 3 months in japan and have had many of the same experiences...especially the awkward 'meet another foreigner...wat do?' LOL

  • ~ w ~ lol. A lot of what you said has so happened to me when I was over there.

  • @azkeyz

your lines don`t even make any sense;(

learn some english then type it k j*p?

  • @azkeyz I love how English (not english) = a fraud, while you reply in English. I'm not Jewish either, but I like your spirit. Anyways we have bigger concerns here now, than people like you.

  • @JoshuainJapan You are not cultivated person.

  • @azkeyz Props to you for trolling like a champion.

  • @azkeyz learn proper english you stupid jap.

  • Pumped is a word for old men who's penis has failed.

  • Generally what I do to people like that is instantly classify them into groups:

    1. Mentally disabled: free pass

    2. Drunk: free pass

    3. Children: free pass

    4. High schoolers: bemused, annoyed concern

    5. Genuinely interesting people: have a conversation.

For a lot of people it helps to say something amazingly mundane in Japanese to hint that the conversation will go nowhere. Or you reveal something too personal.

    少しあったかくなってきましたね!

    昨日は妻の癌の治療の日だった。

  • hahahaha. Thats hailarious. total opposite in norway, no one bothers you.

  • japan super sucks. thats true. they are fugly. stinky. have dirty teeth.

  • they obviously dont like to see u studying lol hahaha

  • @Traces1000 Yeah, makes them feel horrible that you can speak enough to get along, when they've been studying for 12 years and can't order coffee at Mcdonald's!

  • good!

  • In my country, I have never seen people hating a certain group of people. However, I do not like people who come to Japan and make fun of my culture (food culture or something else). I love people coming to Japan and enjoy our culture. And, I will be interested in their culture and visit their countries too.

  • @MrAyanoMinegishi555 Good comment, of course there's a difference between disagreeing with a custom (food, culture, etc) and making fun of it. Everyone is allowed to their opinion, and I agree with you that people should not make fun of what they don't understand, but they are allowed to disagree. Overall, as I've said several times this is a great land with many wonderful aspects. Also, if you have never seen it (hate) maybe you should broaden your environment.

  • @JoshuainJapan

Thanks for the reply. Sorry that I am being too sensitive. Yes, you are right. I should learn to accept both positive and negative comments from other people.

  • @MrAyanoMinegishi555 "In my country, I have never seen people hating a certain group of people." You must not get out much.

  • @MrAyanoMinegishi555 same here in Australia, idiots come in, bag the culture, call us bogans in a derogatory way etc an
