The adoptive mother was probably herself abused as a child and was subconsciously seeking out victims of her own to relieve the pent-up stress she suffered. I don't think race had anything to do with this case, mental illness, yes. The adoptive mother was probably herself abused as a child and was subconsciously seeking out victims of her own to relieve the pent-up stress she suffered. Abuse begets abuse in this way, and nothing about it is racial. Race only pertains to abuse cases as a demographic factor.

@sonotquiet Genetics is also a large determinant factor, Although someone is abused, the likelihood is that they will pass on that abuse to others, but it may show up in different forms including being protective to such a degree as you mention. Or it may not show outward signs at all. There are so many factors involved, genetic, socioeconomic, regional, that there can be no blanket theory as to why this type of thing occurs. As adults we should make the best with what we have inside.

My husband and I adopted a 5 wk. baby girl from Peru,which is a 3rd world country,very poor.We went through a lot of red tape in 2 countries to get her. She is now 20,working and going to college.She is our pride and joy! So it is not always evil.She could have starved to death in Peru! Own parents kill their children more than adoptive ones. This shouldn't of happen to these innocent children Someone[case workers,teachers,police] dropped the ball in this case!

Too many corrupt adoptions are taking place, and the adoptive parents - who just want a child and don't want to know where the child really came from - aren't the best people to be determining whether the system is corrupt, at least not from what I've seen. They are - to say the least - biased. Just because someone is poor, or even very poor, doesn't mean they should be stolen from their parents. Who told you she could have starved?

But,we have foster care here,and the officials seem to want to keep shifting them around.Also,the birth parents have rights and it takes yrs before the courts take action to relinquished their rights. These are kids that get lost in the system,and don't get adopted. That's why ppl go to other countries. It isn't easy to adopt internationally or cheap.
