  • Amazing

  • 0:21 anyone see the Add Text?

  • I'm very sorry I did thoroughly watch the video and I stand corrected. I will make it up to you guys If I'm ever in your area I would absolutely love to volunteer at the sanctuary. Even if just for a day. Thanks Again!

  • I still want to mention that you are doing a kind job! Keep up the good work!

  • The macaw at 3:27 is Gable, our female Hyacinth/Buffons hybrid macaw...so she looks like a green Hyacinth. Buffons are also called 'Great Green Macaws' and look like a huge Military, not a very commonly seen macaw species. Most people know about Hyacinths, but I have now heard of several of these hybrids as companion birds. To me, it's a very unlikely hybrid since Hyacinths are not that closely related to most of the other macaws. But she seems like a Hyacinth in appearance and temperament.

  • @kiliparrot what kind of macaw was that at 3:27?

  • It is beautiful i suggest a net style overlapping the trees partly shaded with tons of flight space. better ventilation in summer. neglected rescues can rebound or reacclimate easier as wild parrots with this natural surroundings look. Overall, I still congratulate you on providing for these birds. It is impulse buying human error that causes pets to suffer. Keep up the good work!

  • @italpe1 Yes, your suggestion would be more conducive to encouraging free flight, however, free flight areas only shrouded by netting would not protect the parrots from naturally occurring raptors in the area; which there are alot of in the San Pedro River Valley area. Some of the Buteos and Accipiters are pretty audacious. They will grab the parrot with their powerful talons and actually attempt to pull the bird through the netting and as a result mortally injuring the bird.

  • @02Lemonhead Good point, however raptors will not be able to cut through strong netting and the scenario would only occur if the parrots were perched on the netting itself. provided that they live with trees, branches, nest boxes, toys etc, I don't see the opportunity. Coopers and Red Tails fly around my aviary never bothered my macaws, I've also never seen my birds on the gates or within reach, You can also decide which birds are the candidates for this addition. Just my suggestion. Thanks

  • @italpe1 Netting is still not practical in this situation. If you notice, the cages are rather spartan due to financial restrictions. Nestboxes would not be implemented for cover to simulate tree cavities because it may stimulate breeding behavior; which the sanctuary discourages. Roofs provide much needed shelter from direct sun and heat. Plus toys are expensive and the Sanctuary is operating on a budget provided by donations.

  • @02Lemonhead Nestboxes, Funny I meant hideaway boxes which are essentially the same thing but may give privacy to more timid individuals It's proven to decrease stress levels. Frankly, I don't need your agreement, No netting just note that outdoor sunlight and fresh air are very essential to their health of these birds. There lives aren't just based on money but creative ideas as well. Sanctuaries not breeding understood. However some species are practically going extinct therefore recommended

  • @italpe1 ..."outdoor sunlight and fresh air..." Exactly! if you watched the video you would see that the majority of the birds are housed outdoors.

  • Oh wow. You have no idea how much I've been dying to go there!

  • I've never heard of this place. I think I'm going to stay with them and volunteer. I want to learn about and experience more parrots. I'm glad she said something about staying with them to volunteer.
