Does anyone else get annoyed? But yet thankful to be living in the 21st century?
Annoyed because we will never get to see what lies in the future after us? And thankful that we are living in the greatest time of discovery..In our short existence?
The A/C is blasting, all lights blazing. Because these are great creative innovations brought forth by people were not silly enough to imagine that sitting in the dark is accomplishing anything. Shine on, Humankind!
Come Sunday night, I know that I personally will be basking in the miraculous glow of incandescent light that will be illuminating my entire household and a good bit of my yard. As I exhale carbon dioxide, I will reflect on human achievement to date. Then I may go hop in my gasoline-powered car, while leaving my lights and television on in my house, and drive down to the corner store and buy a cigar to smoke so I can further reflect and be thankful for the achievements of MANKIND!

Gee DasHortH, me thinks you know nothing about economics, which is the study of the production, distribution, and consumption of SCARCE resources. How does decreasing one's demand increase the supply of that item?
Just because it it a 'big' world with many things it doesn't mean that the resources are infinite or that the biosphere can take whatever we throw at it, that would be a shortsighted and childish notion...
99% of all the resources of the solar system are up there. Rare and not so rare minerals, the building blocks of life, and as we've discovered on Titan, complex hydrocarbon seas.
The "biosphere" has taken a lot more than we can throw at it. And it doesn't care how or even if mankind prospers.
I'm looking forward to seeing mankind's progress in the next 100 years. I can see us starting to colonize the moon and mars by the time I'm 90 if I live that long. Hopefully we will also make long distance star ships like in the sci fi thrillers. FTL travel is mocked today, but I can see it becoming reality tomorrow. After all, we went from a combustion engine to space in less than 100 years.
Liberals are bitter, angry and dogmatic. They yearn for a choreographed fantasy world which disputes human nature. They swoon at the idea of standing on the side of the hill while reciting poetry with talking raccoons and drinking decaffeinated Coke.
The goals of a totalitarian, Fascist state are reflected in the ramblings of liberal politicians and Hollywood idiots. They say they want peace, but the sort of peace they seek is more akin to slavery then it is the ideals upon which America was founded.
That the recycling truck might be an hour late propels liberals into a state of near hysteria. That someone might actually own a gun sends them running to the therapist for Prozac, grief-counseling and Deepak Chopra seminars. They seek order, safety and security at any cost, rather than individuality, liberty and freedom.
Liberals suffer from a number of maladies and delusions, but several are painfully obvious. First, not only are they incapable of taking care of themselves, they cannot comprehend why they should be FORCED to take care of themselves. They are terrified of everything that is not pre-processed, homogenized and approved by an official governmental entity. "Governmental Entity,

Look up.
99% of all the resources of the solar system are up there. Rare and not so rare minerals, the building blocks of life, and as we've discovered on Titan, complex hydrocarbon seas.

The original had better music.
"Look how far we've come".
But, anything that celebrates human achievement needs to be promoted and repeated endlessly.
We started with nothing, on a hostile world that more than once almost destroyed us.
If the Earth is so fragile, we should develop a crash program to get into space and terraform Mars and Venus.
