@michaelwesleyromans That's correct. This plant is in Spartanburg, South carolina, USA. The X3, X5, and X6 are assembled there. The Z4 also used to be assembled there until 2008.
@xaviqaz There is no future in bidding wages down so far no-one can live on them. Then the state has to pick up the tab. And no-one wants big government, right? Corporations have it all their own way: large subsidies to set up in the first place: rock bottom tax rates. rock-bottom wages - how is the US ever going to grow its economy again? The free market has failed.
@nowthatsinteresting1 Most of the big foreign investment and new manufacturing jobs are going to right to work states. BMW, VW, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Mercedes... all are producing in those states. Even GE, Caterpillar, Boeing... prefer to build new facilities in the south. Almost no car is produced in New England, California, etc.
@nowthatsinteresting1 Right-to-work legislation leads to higher production flexibility and lower labor costs. As i said, the vast majority of foreign automakers invest in this kind of US states (mostly in the South). The South Carolina facility already produces more than 30% of BMW cars, and exports 3 of each 4. Less than 10% of BMW cars are built outside Germany and USA. And Mercedes is investing $2.5 billions and moving some C-Class production from Stuttgart to Alabama.
@xaviqaz The investment is great. But my point is about the unsustainability of all employment being provided by corporations, which trawl the world looking for the cheapest labour (hence relocating to the south of USA). Who will buy premium cars, when we're all earning $7.50 an hour?
They've been building vehicles in SC for 15 years. Where have you been? The first Z3's were born here, then Z4's and X-car SAV's. The Z's are back in Germany now. But there are two Mfg facilities in SC.
If I'm not mistaken these workers seem to be Americans.

At last, the USA can compete with China. By giving rock-bottom wages to produce a luxury product that no fucker can afford. Way to go, USA.

@nowthatsinteresting1 "rock-bottom wages" are always better than no wages.
