I was wondering if you can maybe make a video on how u r attaching your fluorocarbon leader to the braid n what knot are u using on the hook. I am using a egg loop rite now but not sure if the fluorocarbon will hold up. Thanks n awesome job
This is a very informative video, I love the great camera work! Thanks for posting this type of video out here so us newbies on the river know what we're doing.
@ReggyRay289 Grill or broil. White kings, or white fleshed chinook salmon, are the scourge of local anglers. Many rivers have had these fish augmented by hatcheries to provide large amounts of fertilizer from the deceased adults post spawn. Unfortunately, they turn black fast, stink, are slimey, and just get in the way. Unless the fish is absolutely chrome bright, it's best to break them off and not deal with them.
@ScreamingReelsTV what????? Coho are a nice, easygoing fish to catch that rarely exceeds 15 pounds, but white kings are awesome. they get huge and fight way harder than a coho. It takes alot more skill to land a big king than a coho. coho are fun and got the acrobatics but when I want a fish thats really gonna fight its all about the chinook. And white kings in my experience are really good smoked or barbecued because of the high oil content. Just saying, theyre called KING salmon for a reason.
Did your stupid ass just say its best to "just break them off and not deal with them"
Fishing isnt all about catching something to kill and eat. Heard of catch and release? Most fishermen would rather catch and release a 30lb king than some other fish like a 5 pound coho or chum. They fight like hell and are the only salmon worth catching for the fight. But I guess if your poor and starving and/or too much of a pussy to reel a big chinook in, then go ahead and bust em off
Great video. Went out to chilliwack on thursday myself. No coho but a few jack chinook. Looking forward to heading out this thursday now that we've had a good few days of rain. You can't beat the fight a coho gives
@Trichomes503 I don't know of any hatcheries that use a machine to clip adipose fins. I've clipped thousands of coho and steelhead fry myself, all by hand. It's easy enough to get a good clip.
We've got 'a few of em down here in Oregon that I've worked in.
That cut just looks more flush with the dorsal than I've seen on some trout, steelhead and coho. I picture them having a sort of residual hump where the fin was.
I agree with you on the best fighting part. Even the smaller guys, even like around 4 or 5 pounds put up a hell of a fight right to the end.

coho are neither the best tasting, hardest fighting or challenging salmon to catch....

@sturgywrangler Taste is subjective. You're right about the other two though but they can be tough to catch sometimes.

I do have to say that my favorite fish of all is white king. Just curious, do you grill these or bake them?

That adipose was removed perfectly. Do you know if they are removed by hand or by one of those 'autofish' machines?
