At the 5th of January this year there was an tribute show for Phil Lynott in Stockholm, Sweden. A show they have put on for a couple of years now but this time they actually got Brian Robertson on stage. Imagine that... Having one of the lead guitarists play in your tribute show in a little bar in a "small" country. I should have been there but got sick. All BIG Thin Lizzy fans should check that out though.
Do we really need to know the lyrics and what guitarist is playing ffs? Gary Moore is a legend no doubt but everyone knows that the best ever Lizzy line -up was with Gorham and Robertson as the guitarists.
Gary moore was the best lead Thin lizzy ever had, and Phil knew that, thats why he kept asking Gary to come back. They had the up most respect for one another.
On all ThinLizzy releases, the song is credited solely toPhilLynott, although atleast one source attributes muchof the credit toGaryMoore, and that the song was largely composedby Moore in 1969.Moore had notrecorded the songhimself prior to his brief involvementwithLizzy in early1974,and itis his guitar solo on thefinished recording on theNightlifealbum.Moore had left the band by the time the album wasput together Brian Robertson refused to re-recordthe solo, believing it could not be improved upon
I've always loved listening to Robbo's solo on Live and Dangerous and it blows Scott Gorhams solo out of the water, but here, Gary leaves Robbo shuffling his feet. What a loss. RIP
Great player ...... but was at school with Brian and he knows he's made an arse of his life ...... as we all have .... if we could go back 30 years ,... sigh ...... Brian you remeber first gig at Eastwood High !! ... you bockin up in toilet .... heee ..... long tme ago .... + brother Glen .... hope he ok today ? ..... anyway old pal and singer ... LW ... you guess
The two greatest guitarists EVER on stage together! RIP Gary. Wish that Brian was'nt a drinker. Ma brother knew him well as a youngster and still cherishes their friendship. Too many guitar heroes have gone!! Don't be next Robbo, please.
@ollebulle2006 - Robbo is drunk here, I think he dosn't remember this evening, but his solo is amazing. Gary is great, I like his tune, but his solo here is boring.
I disagree. While Robbo was able to give feel to his solo, it is obvious that he is no longer the player he was 25 years ago. Gary, on the other hand, had gotten better. Listen to the DVD (not YouTube) and you wil hear the difference. Robbo's solo sounds pretty much the same on YouTube, but Gary's solo loses some of its feel. I think Gary was "on" for both this song and "Don't believe a word".
I still think Robbo gets great sound, but he is not the player he once was.
@666sigma To be honest with you mate, was Robbo ever that amazing ? The amount of overdubs on solo's he had to do live and dangerous and other footage I've heard, he messes up a hell of a lot :/ Gary was always amazing , Robbo just seemed a bit average, maybe arrogant and a bit naive
R.I.P. My brother Gary Moore. I love listening to your SOULFUL licks. I will never forget you Bro, I will think of you everytime i pick up my Gary Moore signature series Gibson Les Paul!!
Had the pleasure to have been here in the croud and ive seen some 400 or so gigs and this one just pip Deep Purple 84 at knebworth truly amazing and Gary did fluff the happy birthday tribute to Phill but who the fuck gave a fuck, i think eric stole the show with Whisky, i always hated witj till this gig, Eric must have played it 10000 times and must hate the dam song but he played it with true pride, try to dig out the video
I´m very dissapointed with brian robertsons guitar solo here. He just plays without listning to the chords and play notes that doesnt fit, compared to gary who doesnt play one note wrong. I thought Brian was better than this. RIP Gary
I've been mourning for Gary all week.I wrote on the back of my van,Gary Moore 1952-20011,the thrill is gone but the music lives on.After watching numerous clips on youtube,I can now rejoice in the fact that Gary will never leave us.
If you're going to make guitar-face like that you better be able to back it up, Gary always backed it up, it was organic. Tone, soul, passion - Gary always brought it, full on. God bless you brother Gary, you will be missed around these parts. Rest in Peace.
If you're going to make guitar-face like that you better be able to back it up, Gary always backed it up, it was organic. Tone, soul, passion - Gary always brought it, full on. God bless you brother Gary, you will be missed around these parts. Rest in Peace.
Gary moore , i have no words to describe how his departure has hit me , great pain , sadness is in the air , listening him now makes me cry . i spent my whole life being his fan . always will be in my heart. The young and old GARY.
God Bless you Gary. The music world has lost one of it's truly great rock/blues players and you will never be forgotten. Thank you for giving us all your everlasting special gift of the blues. RIP.
God Bless you Gary. The music world has lost one of it's truly great rock/blues players and you will never be forgotten. Thank you giving us all your everlasting special gift of the blues. RIP.
Check out the Tin Lizzy album Nightlife on which Gary Moore plays the original Still In Love With You solo (his only appearance on the album). It is said that Gary helped Phil to create this classic blues. I expected the studio version of SILWY to be less affecting than the two live recordings by BA Robertson (1978) and Eric Sykes (1983); however, it's wonderful: bluesy, rough-hewn and chunky, yet, sadly, more robust than Gary, as it survives him to tell future generations of his greatness.
@FantasiaSund The world truely lost an iconic musician when Gary died. I believe we will never see anyone who compares to Gary in our lifetime, he was able to wrench every available note out of any guitar he picked up.Truely a master. R.I.P. Gary
@tonci1 That's for sure! I pray he is playing for the angels now! He could definitely mix good old fashioned rock with some slammin' blues! He will be very missed! My husband put Still In Love With You on a mixed "tape" years ago - and it has been our song ever since. God Bless!
Robbo, beautiful playing man.Gary Moore.....geez man what a monster!!you rocked, you made it weep.Had it all, gonna be sorely missed.hope you and phil make some beautiful music up there
Well played in spite of Brian Robertson took part. At the end I feel a duelling spirit. But that`s an ballad and no song for doing that, what do you think? Brian Downey is fantastic - he`s the man! This concert was so much hard work for Gary - he had to concentrate very much with singing and playing. But he was in a very, very good shape, in a good temper and had time enough to laugh around with the guys, hadn`t he? This evening he was the soul of the band and was an man of charisma. Rock on!
Poor brian Downey trying to gauge when they were going to end that track..let alone 'lets say a bit more improv on the guitar solos by moore towards the ending......not knocking them as genius axe men who i love ....but .downey must be the most under rated drummer in the world....pure class
chora guitarra porque eu estou chorando... não sei onde o Dare estava com a cabeça quando escreveu esta musica... aa ta loco meu esse cara toca demais...meu sobrinho também vai chegar lá Gabriel
I thought Robbo played well...he's still got great structure, touch and technique - and a classic LP tone. Great to hear him again. His solo from this song from the old Thin Lizzie days was inspirational to loads of players.
@LFCzeppelin8 I agree, his guitar is his voice and he is a ...naw I'm trying to say he's an ok singer, but I just cant get my fingers to hit those notes, just like Gary's vocals I guess!}
I would like to have the baking track for the guitar for this one, just can't seem to find it anywhere...I I'm in love with that guitar tone Gary!Great song,Phil could really pick em
@DRJVancouver youre sick i think. Garys solos are just unbelievable, so what repeative? When Gary begins to play everybody hears after few seconds it´s Gary. Gary plays from the slowest to fastest tracks. Dont tell e.g. "Down the line" is boring, because it completely cant be true. You like your Warren, doesnt matter, but dont tell he´s better than they both...I was at two garys concerts and there were any moment to get boring.
none of their performances can come close to matching the Frankie Miller version on Nightlife...did they forget how to play the beautiful melody of the original? this is just posing...once you hear the original, nothing can compare
Warren Haynes is a wonderful player and I'll give him props...I've seen all of these guys live through the years and have almost everything studio wise from the lot...and Robertson when he's inspired can blow them all away.
This Warren Haynes was allowed to play 1-2 songs with Deep Purple lasttt year in Amsterdam, and he literally shitted himself. Morse blew him of stage. What a joke !
There is no doubt about it in my mind. He may be a brilliant and exciting guitarist but he is a bit of a prima donna. Have seen him numerous times from back in the seventies to now - he never changes. He will moan about the sound, lighting, stage etc etc. He will if in a bad mood - or so it seems - cut sets short etc etc etc. BUT I have never heard him bad mouth the audience.
I saw Gary last year live and he has a very bad Character without manners and no respect for his Fans ! But he is a Great guitarist and can play awesome with incredible feeling and therefore I love his music , but not his character.
i dont think Gary tells his fans to fuck off, i think thats bullshit mr 2329250.i have nerver seen a video where he is an asshole to anyone. If he had, people would post it at youtube at once.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
gary moore is a asshole i saw him last april . he was shit . but he thinks he is a god . he told the bass player to fuck off 4 times . he told the fans fuck off i dont play rock i am a blues player i you like it fuck off that is the sort of twat gary moore is .
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
by the way i saw gary moore do this with lizzy in 1979 and he was shit then too . he is one off them look at me players who is not as good as he makes out .brian robertson can wipe the floor with him and always could
i dont know but maybe you saw a diffrent gary moore. because when i saw him en spoke to him he was great. and he always took time for his fans. and hes one of the best guitar players ive ever seen.
it is funny cos a lot of people have said that . and a lot have said what i said i have seen him 4 times 1st with lizzy in 1979 twice supporting bb king and white snake and last april with buddy widdington . and the gig was the worst i have ever been too . whether it was just last year tour i dont know but. have a look at buddy on you tube they is a lot hoff bad comments about gary moore on there . all the best .

@DRJVancouver HAHAHA, you MUST be joking.
This Warren Haynes was allowed to play 1-2 songs with Deep Purple lasttt year in Amsterdam, and he literally shitted himself. Morse blew him of stage. What a joke !

and where has Brian downeys hair gone? Probably the same place as mine!
I can't remember seeing a live band that had the same atmosphere as Lizzy in the mid 70s
