Oh no, things are so horrible, things were so much better in the...(fill in the decade). It's all a load of shite. I've been hearing this for 46 yrs. and it's still not true. Just take the era this album was released in, things were worse economically than they are now. Just a few yrs from Vietnam War, political assasinations & civil rights riots in the 60's and little over 30 yrs from WWll & the holocaust. Wow, things were so much better then. Quit looking back through rose colored glasses.
Who the fuck else has songs about their girlfriend getting killed by a falling satellite, a man with downs syndrome, and the de-evolution of mankind ALL IN ONE ALBUM?!
Is this really a "New Wave" album? Space Junk is the closest thing to New Wave on this C.D. and I think it's just barely New Wave, when you think about what New Wave was when it actually became a serious genre. I mean bands like Oingo Boingo, The Cars, Wall Of Voodoo, Men Without Hats, and Echo And The Bunnymen. If you think about their type of music... is this still New Wave? I firmly believe this a solid Post-Punk album no questions asked, but hey that's just my opinion. What's your's?
I remember buying the yellow album the day it came out at tower records in glendale. All of my friends were still into zepplin and genesis and aerosmith and all that long hair hippy crap.
i brought the devo album to a kegger party and waited for my chance, after about an hour i snuck it onto the turntable and everybody in the back yard just about blew their beer out their noses, WHAT the FUCK is that CRAP, Turn that shit off gary.
I made the mistake of putting Are we not men on first. ?
One of DEVO's best. When this tune first came out, I used to play clips from old Flash Gordon serials and some old NASA animation. Good old days of Sputnik!
September 23, 2011. Some pieces of a satellite about to fall to earth. The USA is in the target zone. Someone might be about to be killed by... Space Junk!
I bought this album and and new traditionalists way back when.Too bad I dont have a turntable. I tried to play this song for my wife when she mentioned the falling satellite, she totally blew me off. She never did the new wave punk thing.
just wanted to hear this song one more time before a pea sized object traveling about 10,000 mph perforates the roof, attic, ductwork, suspended ceiling, me, office chair, vinyl composite tile, concrete slab, gravel fill, and 12 feet of compacted earth. I knew this would happen.
R We not all Jocko Homo? More Space Junk is on the way...next week! Chances of a piece hitting a member of Devo are minimal. The rest of us should keep an eye on the sky!
@OnTheLambda maybe some YouTube users probably live in the area as it is. Or maybe they have free long distance on their cell plan thus they could just talk for hours not knowing when to stop.
even freedom is an awesome album 1st 3 are all time classics mothersbaugh and casale are the equivilent to jagger and richards ,page and plant and tyler and perry.
While my pot head friends were listening to LED ZEPPLIN and ALL the other crap like Genesis and JGJKGYJ, I was in to DEVO long before devo was cool . So fuck off.
I've got a rhyme and it comes with a riddle, O-HI-O, It's round on the end and high in the middle, O-HI-O! I like the version of Jocko Homo with that lyric lol
One of the best, most underrated bands of all time. This album and Duty Now for the Future are both gems. Though I'll admit that my favorite song is probably Wiggly World. I was lucky enough to see them live several times "back in the day", they did amazing concert sets.
Classic Classic Classic! This first disc is a 10. wait, so is the second one too! Not one bad song on either disc. That includes "Freedom of Choice" too(3rd disc). Mark is a Genious! It's been a great following his success over the decades. Alot like Danny Elfman, another Genious!
@LTp465g Nice compilation of songs it fits with what LTp465g said and it fits with the vision I have of the world. I hope people will wake up and see that they are being brainwashed, I found out the hard way and the hard way is in my opinion the only way to understand what 'they' are doing to everyone. Some use drugs and suddenly see through the lies, others like me with the label "Schizofrenic" who from the start of their lifes see right through everything. it's their world all over again!
@LTp465g Yep! Back in 1977, I asked Mark where their band's name came from. He told me that mankind will "de-evolute" within thirty years time. Despite all of our technical advances, he was right on the dime!

On the subject of Devo: great band - true originals! New wave, post-punk, geek rock, post-punk new wave, whatever you call it - fuckin' fantastic.
