  • I have had a 466 shindaiwa for 4 years now, it has run faultlessly. For balance and ease of use, and comfort it is superb, I think all these foolish comparison's - about who makes the best etc .. the truth is a well designed and executed product looked after, with a little care SHOULD last 10/15/20 years. The truth is manufactures are in a rush to bring out replacements models etc.. Whatever works for you - is best

  • i put the 488 on a push scooter

  • got a picture??

  • start that baby up and make some cuts

  • need a stihl

  • also forgot to mention it came with the heavey duty air filtration system and i run a 20inch gb bar with a carlton chain

  • i got my shindaiwa 488 for 15$ off ebay in australia it was all pulled appart with no spark i fixed it all up now its the best saw i have ever used and i think the old owners gave it a beating she still pures never bogs down even in australian hard woods its also important to keep your chain nice and sharp so the machine works easyer

  • I love my shindaiwa 488

  • @beckmanb72 Professionals use Stihl. Everyone knows this.

  • who gives a flying fuck... they are all good... i got a shindaiwa 261t commercial trimmer, shindaiwa eb 8510 backpack blower, 4 stihl br 550s, a stihl fs 80, a stihl ht 101 & an echo pb 460 blower....

  • A friend of mine has a shindaiwa 680.. runs great at 25 years old...When i used it, i couldn't believe how powerful and smooth she runs..

  • Ive been using shindaiwa saws professionaly for years. mostly the 488 and the smaller top handle moddle for prunning. I really dont take cair of them properly. they get beat on. I have left them in the backs of trucks. in all weather.. one was even left out all winter by one of the guys that work for me.... they always start and are verry dependable. I wouldnt by annything else.. not that i havent had others.. I use them heavy... and really neglect them and thay keep running...

  • my father worked and is still working in the woods for over 42years he says the best saw out there is jonsered the other ones are good but jonsered are built the best.

  • vyx wtf leave the chainsaws to you? american chainsaw are fuckin pathetic, shindaiwa along with echo are extremely good saws for there price they will last as long as any stihl or husky with proper care. go and use your mcculloch american made saw and test it against this shindaiwa, then comment

  • i bet a mc ulloch 10-10 would easily outlast any of the new saws

  • Like I said before show a vid of your saws felling a tree.Would probably only be able to fell saplings.

  • I have the 577Pro, have used/owned many brands prior to this, it is without peer for durability. I think Husqvarna has best balance and possibly power of saws in this class, Johnsereds very easy on the user, Stihl is just common Will buy the Shindiawa again, it is a comfort that it will never stop ..... ever. You must be able to rely on your equipment.

  • anyone ever notice how there aren't too many Japanese lumberjacks running all willy-nilly through the woods? I always thought they imported their lumber, what the hell are they doing designing and manufacturing chainsaws. its the scands and all of us in North America who cut down trees for fun, they should leave the chainsaws to us.

  • When you grow up you will realise how foolish your silly comments were!!

  • Have you ever bought a brand new piece from a dealer and put it to the test? Probably not, ignorance truely is bliss. I work for and help run a Dealership & service center in VA, own a 488 (which was replaced by this 490), 357 and a 757. Not to mention a pair of 22DH hedge trimmers and a 22T string trimmer. Wonderful equipment with a matching price!

  • @PERPARSON jealous?

  • I own the 488 (very similar model) and it's all metal casing, except for the top covering. These should last 25+ years under normal use. The 15 years he referred to was likely for heavy duty commercial use (and abuse) where any Poulan would die in <5 years. These are on quality par with the best out there but their engine reliability are unmatched by anyone (the only saws built in Japan)

  • do these saws have plastic crank case or metal? i have a husqvarna 268 and jonsered 625 and they are a very good saw

  • Plastic crankcase!!!! you must be thinking of Tonka Toys!! I'm so upset that I am going for a beer-and its only 0755am!

  • Amateur, I start at 7am. Have fun cutting down a REAL tree with a Shindaiwa. Prolly designed for cutting down those little bonzai trees. Husky and Stihl all the way!

  • I will say that Jonsered and Stihl and Husqvarna is probably the best.

Stihl for the crazy power and acceleration, Jonsered for the very good quality of the material.. not so good power. I have nerver tried Husqvarna, but their engines are made by the same factory as Jonsered engines... so good engines.

So all 3 very good indeed, but I have to try Shindaiwa one day. =)

    Best regards:

  • only 10 to 15 years it will last? shit! ship it back to japan and tell them to keep there usless shit. my husqvarna 268xp is 25 years old and it is the best saw i have ever used

  • See my comment on the 269T. The XP series is a fully commercial professional range of saws which rank among the best in the world. You still cannot say that ALL Husqvarna's are the best because they are not. The same applies to Stihl. The lower ranges are plastic ****!

But you should not rubbish the Shindaiwa without experience.Even the bottom of the range the 285s is built to a professional standard. They really are good saws.Brian
