@Fancey0661 almost all of this is useless now. The thing you wanna do now is charge in and rend and then TClap to get a rend on all mobs. Then you can shockwave. Initial aggro is a lot harder to get now for warriors.

One of the main questions I'm always looking to have answered (from as many different experienced radiers as possible) when is it the tank's fault, and when is it the DPS' fault. I know for a fact that I do have to work on my AoE tanking. However (as I'm still running heroics) there're times when I'm grouped up with a whole party of 5.6k gs+ people pulling ass loads of DPS for 5mans, and they just don't pull aggro. However there're times I'm with less experienced DPS, and it all goes to hell.

@watuchie i generally give dps 2 chances. if they pull agg once i let it slide. if they pull again and put my grp in danger and make mine and the healers job more difficult i tell them to either get threat meter or L2watch it. I've found with 30min que waits, every1 else in the grp will side with the tank lol.

Been watching this video for some time now. And in my first icc run people told me i was doing a GREAT job and he didn't regret that he took me. we had no wipes the first 4 bosses. and we did 6 bosses with a 100k health wipe on proffesor putricide.

When tanking AoE pulls, I tab through enemies and use Shield Slam just to stay in a decent threat lead on everything. Should I only be Shield Slamming the main target or is it okay to use it on the other targets?

Great guide! I would like to add my 2 if that's cool with ya, I open a boss in the exact same way but with the addition of Heroic strike in the following order:

1. Bloodrage, (for rage) 2. Shield Block (basically to leave it activated) 3. Heroic Strike (so it hits as soon as I get to target) 4. Heroic throw. 5. charge 6. Shield Slam. I do all that I as I'm running towards the boss, great for opening with good threat lead, so basically the same as Pulveriser's but with HS.

This is a great vid for sure. I'm having trouble pulling groups with caster mobs in it and it. Especially with multiple casters. My warrior is at level 76 so i don't have heroic throw yet. So, am i stuck with just charging the caster and making dps wait a few seconds for me to get aggro? I've spent most of my time leveling as fury (dual spec'd arms for bg's) so any advice would be appreciated.

i play wow using my laptop and touch pad, becuase of this i have a hard time switching from mob to mob, and my movement of the character is limited, so i always worry about keeping agro from groups of mobs, would it be smarter if i went dps instead, i have already started to collect up some gear. any tips would help.

@harrywoodrow101 Your going to have the same issue with playing DPS. Get a mouse, they are $20 dollars at your local office supply store, and they're small and portable. Having absolute control over your character's movements are a very important aspect of being a good player.

@graffsknarr I use several macros, its more of a flavor thing. Do a Google search for "Warrior Macro's" and you should get some good results, probably from either Tankspot.com or the WoW forums.

To be perfectly honest starting up as a new tank this late is truly a frustrating experience, especially when doing heroics due to the DPS having gotten used to the fact they can just go all out all the time since everyones gear is very good.

I personally gave up on it after 3 or 4 weeks since DPS for the most part simply don't bother to read the chat and keep going all out or leave right after I tell them to wait a moment so I can build up some threat.

@briand181 its not an addon. its in the interface options menu i believe. its just that wow automatically sets a limit on the zoom, you can slide a bar in a menu to allow for max zoom.

@GrifFin1781 You should have a talent in the Protection tree called "Warbringer," that allows you to charge in any stance. On that note I highly recommend that you carefully look over all the talents that you have chosen to take, just by reading them and understanding them you can become a better tank. Good luck.

I was coming close to making my own when I saw yours, nevermind, you nailed it. Not only is the information priceless, but the video is very entertaining. Points I would like to add: addon Aloft to help with AoE tanking, RE-emphasize using intervene, emphasize effective keybinding of everything, adding mitigation specs info(?)

You say Taunt can miss, understandable, which is why the glyph is good.

But what about Mocking Blow? Isn't that also a taunt with a guaranteed 6 seconds for the boss to attack you? Since you have 8% hit, it wouldn't miss right?

@scaleofthought Mocking Blow is not an actual taunt, it does not equalize your threat to that of the person who has the threat at the moment, it simply causes the boss to attack you for 6 seconds, and then it will go back to attacking the person with the highest threat (most likely not you) it can be good if you do miss a taunt, and you need the boss to focus on you untill your taunt refreshes and you can attempt to taunt again. Challenging Shout works the same way as Mocking Blow.

Hi, I've been playing Wow for about a month now and i have really been fascinated with tanks so i wanted to raise my own and created a protection warrior. Is this a good idea or should i just level up to 80 then create a tank?

@Munomik Leveling as a Protection Warrior is probably an OK thing, but I would only recommend it if you plan on doing Instances throughout your leveling experience, cause it will be easy for you to get a group. If you like to speed through and power level, you should probably consider leveling Arms or Fury and switching as early as lvl 70 to protection to finish off until 80.

Yeah, about aoe tanking - it's actually harder to do in crappy hc's than in raids and such. Nowadays you have huntards spamming volley through the whole HC, without a single misdirection, and when you lose aggro on some mob that was 1 yard away from your cleave or thunderclap it always starts anew "omg noob tank, reroll to something easyer to play noob!". Etc...

Though on single targets it's a no brainer really..

lmfao take the points out of Imp disciplines and put it into cruelty. higher melee crit = higher threat and that's alot more important than a 60 second survival cd reduction and the glyph of shield wall reduces the cd, yes, but it also reduces the effectiveness of it drastically.. as far as "going for dodge" dont lie to people there is a 20% dodge nerf in ICC its all about stacking Armor and Stam at this stage in the game.

@bobbyewing311 Not a chance, cruelty is not worth tanking, I've stated in this video that it is for a progression tank, threat is not a concern, you want all the survivability you can get. Talents like incite in the protection tree give you 15% more crit to cleave, heroic strike, and thunderclap anyway. As far as the dodge goes, just because there is a 20% nerf does not make Dodge any less valuable for every point you get over 20% its still worth the same % of avoidance.

When you are on fights like heroic sind where you have a ridiculous zerk timer you have to burn off the bat if you don't have insane threat you're gunna get people rippin agro from you before you even have a chance to turn the boss. survival tanking is for offtanks, threat generation is for the main tank. If your healers can't hold you up through attacks you don't belong in ICC in the first place.

This is just ridiculous, before I even continue combating your arguments I would like to see a Armory link to you, prove your in ICC25 Heroics (on Sindragosa) presumably, and that you use a ridiculous threat build to MT. Then we'll talk more.

If you die then you lose all threat, then you wipe. All classes have way of dropping their aggro or making their aggro less though talents with out sacrificing dps.

Also the fact that it makes it more viable to use in LK. With every other soul reaper (or it is every 4th?). I am a DK tank but working on my war. Also in progression runes you should have have problem with threat. You have MD to you which will give you 5k+ more threat. If you dont then your group is not coordinated enough.

Back in my tanking days, I would make pretty solid tanks. I taught this Pulveriser guy everything he knows. But now Pulveriser is basically my GOD at all tanking. I remember I even picked up a level 80 Blood Belt of Bane when I was only level 8. Basically I gave that to Pulveriser and that is his secret weapon to make all of you n00bz cry. Even did a 1v1 tank attack on some boss named Gelvinsondermaucht with Pulveriser and we killed him and his horde of murgentogs. LOL they didnt stand a chance

I've been levelling a warrior through patch 3.3.3, specced in prot since it first became available at level 10 and have been tanking instances ever since. He's currently level 72 so I'm still trying to improve constantly. I've picked up alot on how to tank and this video helped me further gain confidence in my abilties aswell as finding out useful tips.
