The different forms of creationism are exactly the same as different theories of how evolution happened. Creationism and how God did it. Evolution and how nature did it. I don't see how there is a difference between them. Grasping at straws a bit maybe!?
@DMilbury Evolutionary theory is backed by a mountain of empirical evidence. Creationist thinking is not.
I gladly pay thirty five bucks a year to support Genie's efforts to keep fundamentalist nonsense out of science classes in American public schools. Support NCSE!
@ndrthrdr1 I have yet to see the mountain. You are welcome to pay your 35 dollars, however I will not. This is a good example of what you might call running scared. Of course they don't want to teach the controversy of evolution vs. creationism in school. It would show there really is no evidence for evolution.
@DMilbury The evidence is exactly what they are teaching. They just don't want non-scientific magical, mythical nonsense taught in science classes as if magic were actually possible. Teaching kids that the Earth might be flat because a few kooks think it's true would be as ridiculous as teaching that the young-Earth creationists might be right.
@DMilbury The fact that you believe that there actually is a controversy among real scientists shows the need to keep creationist magical nonsense out of public schools. If you were home-schooled by fundamentalists and/or live in the American Deep South, that would explain your lack of familiarity with the evidence proving that evolution has happened and still is, and you have my sympathy.
@ndrthrdr1 Actually I grew up in Canada, went to public school, and was taught evolution in high school by a teacher who had doubts about it's validity. That's besides the point. I have seen the arguments on both sides and clearly think creationism is the logical conclusion to the physical evidence we see.
At least "magic" has a magician performing the "tricks." Evolution is far worse! It has nothing causing everything! You wanna talk about fairytales.

-They don't teach "The controversy" because there IS no controversy.
Your ignorance completely validates the NCSE's mission.
@nolobede Ohh, there is no controversy. That's why sites and blogs like this are full of debates. Don't give me the no controversy line. It doesn't cut it and it's a cop out. I am actually quite well informed of the arguments from both sides and I really don't understand how people can continue to believe evolution to be true. Wish fulfillment and fairytale are terms always thrown at a creationist world view, but if you really look at what evolutionists believe; hmmm?
Ah yes, pardon me as I should have phrased it so that the hopelessly deluded, willfully ignorant, vastly uneducated creationist population still basking in the indoctrinated haze of obsessive futility could better grasp the abyss of evidence there is to provide even an attempt at disproving any aspect of evolution.
Seems 150 years of utter failure isn't enough... and the futile obsession continues.
Any controversy, resides outside of the vast consensus held by the worlds population of educated scientists. You know, those educated individuals that have earned credibility. Those that have worked lifetimes to validate the science behind evolution. All of those individuals who know that proving evolution wrong, would bring them worldwide fame and would permanently change humanity. It would answer one of the biggest questions of humanity. Yet...
Yet... every attempt, has failed... over and over and over.
Evolution has/does/will happen. That evolution happens is fact... proven, testable repeatable, predictable falsifiable observed fact. The very fact you are alive is a direct result of that evolutionary process.
Evolution is backed by insurmountable consistent evidence beyond your wildest hopes of disproving.
The argument that evolution happens... isn't an argument, just a futile irrelevant ad naseum discussion.
So no one really needs to display what any evolutionist "believes," because belief isn't a factor in the scientific process. Science doesn't care what you or I, or anybody else believes, only in facts and evidence. And so far, facts and evidence for creationism are non existent... conjecture, myth at best. Whereas the evolutionary process is fact whether you believe it was a directed process or not.
So yes, among those capable of accepting truth, there IS no controversy.
She has done a lot of damage to Islam as far as America is concern.We just hope something like Egypt will happen so that Islamic rule can be established In US
I am amused at the note on the background door that says "this is not a restroom". I cant help but imagine there has obviously been a reason to put the note there. I humorously think about a custodian telling himself - Im putting a note on this door, maybe people will stop taking a dump in here!
I feel like you should be able to quote any book you want as long as it's cited and it's for educational purposes, like some copyright law. If someone publishes something in a book or on a website, anyone can read it, so likewise, anyone should be able to quote and then respond to it.
@Fudmottin I think this is in a small conference room. The sign is on a door and is likely put there to prevent someone from mistaking the door as one to the restroom and thereby disrupting whatever is going on in the room.
Eugenie Scott is one of my true heros! Thank goodness for her and for all the folks working so hard at the NCSE to protect science education in the classroom. :)
I applaud her noble motives, but I hope her book has a more compelling introduction than the start of her speech.

Information and language arise from a mind. DNA exists independent of a human mind which means that some mind other than human authored it.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
@Mr88playmaker
If it is authored than the author can change it yes?
KPhysicsGeek 2 years ago
@Mr88playmaker
Human mind is the product of brain.
it is the ability to experience and reason.
It also has the dynamic of culture to store it's references in.
Not unlike how your ideas may come from books, google or YT.
To suggest it is authored by an external source is silly.
Your inability to comprehend this is not unusual, but it in no way means that it is supernatural.
Sorry to break it to you Mr88, but you are part of nature and existence, and so it your mind.

What? DNA and the mind are not independent of each other. The mind is a function of nature(DNA) Vs nurture(environment).
...Just realized this is 9mounths old...my points still valid

@xmodrelic (QUOTE): "What? DNA and the mind are not independent of each other." (END QUOTE)
You're mixed up. Let me say it another way so you don't jump to false conclusions:
Information exists independently of its medium.
Mr88playmaker 1 year ago
All language requires a mind, including math.
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
@Mr88playmaker
So math only exists because of a mind? Can a mind change math?
KPhysicsGeek 2 years ago

The reason Evolutionists/Naturalists attack Creationists is because it's too late to cry
Facts with NO religious spin:
(1) DNA code is language.
(2) Language originates in a mind.
(3) Information exists independent of its medium.
(4) Information and language are not matter or energy.
(5) Biological life forms are the creative and purposeful product of information and language.
Those are the scientific facts.
There are only two known languages to man:
(1) of human mind origin (2) DNA code
Mr88playmaker 2 years ago
@Mr88playmaker
You forgot math as a language that exists independent of the human mind. A prime number is only divisible by 1 and itself whether we think so or not.
