  • Other drivers thought that Purley was Williamson standing next to his 'own' car, the marshalls couldn't do anything since they weren't wearing fireproof clothing. The emergency crew screwed up, entering the track on the wrong side etc. Race still kept going during the fire as you can see.

  • This isn't the whole story - David Purley stopped his car and tried to save Williamson; the crowd tried to climb fences to help but were held back by security with dogs: they didn't "watch him burn." Williamson died of smoke inhalation when Purley couldn't get his car turned over.

  • It was a bad one.. A realy bad one.. But I personaly find the crash of Tom Pryce and the marhall that died there the worst one ever. But both accidents where realy sick..

  • If this were rally racing, the spectators would have saved him. These people just watched him burn. Interesting.

  • Roger Williamson was one of the most senseless deaths in F1 history. Not to say any other driver death should be minimized, but he could, and should have been saved. Such a tragedy.

  • fancy that. Roadrash and then bbq. Talk about roadkill

  • @chuckberry619 Break out the hotdogs and marshmallows. :-D Its a PARTY!

  • @chuckberry619 have some fkn respect idiot

  • Why so many dislikes?

  • @TheStockCarStig Nobody LIKES this crash :(

  • The 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans

  • @whenvaporsvanish wasnt formula one

  • @genius7000 - I guess you are trolling to make such a dumb remark?

  • @marpetpet look who im saying it too

  • Those cars look like toy cars =)

  • what in the hell took emergency services so long . that is criminal. i hope some heads rolled because of this.

  • yep, 8 minutes to arrive to help. In those days, safety was a joke. It was through the efforts of people like Jackie Stewart that tracks and cars are so much safer and medical help i always near by.

  • The organization didn't really knew what happened, and didn't stop the race. As a result, the emergency services had to travel almost a whole lap (one-way traffic) next to the track, because the other drivers drove at full speed.

  • 8 minutes???

  • 8 fucking minutes? WHAT THE FUCK

  • @koivis87 That was the 70's!

  • @koivis87 lol seriously wtf, you can take a lap around the Nurburg with a GTR faster than that....

  • Why does this have so many dislikes? :l

  • @scyther199

because people these days want to see the drivers crash in HD and then watching them Die with split second quality, they are sick bastards

  • @scyther199 How can anyone like seeing someone die??

  • Back then, emergency services weren't on stand by and the marshalls didn't have flame proof suits or fire extinguishers. Today....seems like the emergency crew is out there before the car even stops. Crews are all in flame proof suits and there are plenty of fire extinguishers available. Unfortunately drivers had to pay with their lives before changes were made.

  • Wooooow. 8 minutes?! You might as well put a sign on their chests saying "I killed Roger Williamson."

  • 8 minutes?!?! don't have emergency crews on standby or anything

  • hopefully he'll be ok

  • @chimp175 i'm afarid he died

  • Was he doing good befor the crash? sorry!

  • @flipflopflie

He had only started his 2nd ever F1 race with one of the lower field teams so I would assume he was amongst the bottom cars.

  • Was he doing good befor the crash!

  • wtf am i watching these vids

  • 8 minutes? Was it because they were far away or just slow to respond?

  • @corky7ca Slow.

  • @corky7ca the couldn't go against the traffic and had to go all the way around the track

  • ...& unfortunately Elio DeAngelis a close 2nd to Roger's -daz in oz

  • 8 minutes to arrive? really? how does a dangerous sport get the green light to go if there aren't that many safety workers to arrive on the scene of a crash in a more respectable amount of time? when bad crashes happen, time is everything

  • That must be one of the most horrible ways to die.. stuck in a car, burning to death :( R.I.P. Roger!

  • This may be the worst circumstances in which a driver has UNNECESSARILY died but the worst accident has to be the one that resulted in the death of Tom Pryce and fire marshall, Jansen van Buhren.

  • Worst crash is without a doubt Tom Pryce's clash with a firemen in Kyalami 1977.

  • @erwinruys Depends on how you look at it... This is a horrible accident because Roger was unhurt inside the car and died of the fire... In the Pryce and fireman incident it was a quick and painless incident (or at least I hope so), but it looked very horrific... both incidents are horrific in their way and in my opinion hard to say which one was worse.... but this is just my opinion...

  • @rubenick I agree with you on that one. But Roger did not die of the flames, only of the smoke (which isn´t the nicest way to go but still better than to be burned).

  • Why so many dislikers?

  • @goldbullet50 Everyone Thinks that Sennas crash was the worst. Thats why the video has so many dislikes.

  • His beest friend tried to save him but the asshole marshals only brought a fire extinguisher and didn't even try to flip the car.

  • @NOXXism Because they were wearing a t-shirt. Purley a fire suit.

  • @erwinruys So they just let him die. They should have been more prepared

  • @NOXXism It's 1973, barriers were just around for 3 years.

  • @erwinruys Yeah but taking 8 minutes to get to the car is ridiculous!

  • @NOXXism i agree.

  • @erwinruys racing in america may be not as appealing as f1, but they would have gotten a fire truck right next to the car even before it stopped.

  • @NOXXism There was a Fire-Truck only 100meters away but they were not allowed to drive against the way of racing, so they had to go around the whole track. Sorry for my english, hope you understand.

  • @Menschenzkind what a joke that's ridiculous

  • Comment removed

  • @NOXXism But it´s true, sad but true...

  • @NOXXism Well i mean...Its an understandable rule...that should have been ignored.

  • @MikeW259 I would have ignored it. I'd rather pay a fine than let a driver die

  • @NOXXism amen...But you put everyone else on the track in hella serious danger if you drive that firetruck toward the flow of racing(Just imagine a car hitting something that solid at over 150mph...It could/would kill the driver, all of the firetruck crew, and probably a few spectators)

  • @MikeW259 By then the drivers had to slow down because of the yellow flag and a truck that big can be seen (and heard) from pretty far away

  • @NOXXism Slowing down in a F1 car is a relative term, those closing speeds are still horrendous. The safety procedures they have now hopefully mean something like this will never happen again.

  • @cjeam9199 It's almost impossible to die in an F1 car these days with all these rules. F1 is just not what it used to be. I miss the 90's

  • @NOXXism I'm sorry, but how does death and the potential for severe injuries improve a sport? Many F1 drivers of the past contributed and lobbied towards the safer Formula 1 which we have today, even Senna himself understood the great importance of a drivers safety and spoke often about improving it. If we had the cars of old, Kubica would have died in Canada, maybe Webber would have also died in Valencia. If you really want F1 to be that way, I must say you are one sadistic bastard.

  • @ROONTANG You misunderstood what I said. Senna would have not liked what his death made to the sport. What I said is that I miss the times where F1 cars looked like F1 cars, low, wide and short. These cars are ugly, they're full of electronics, and you can drive them without take the hands off the steering wheel

  • @NOXXism You miss when people used to die in a sport.... ok

  • @cjeam9199 not.

  • this has got to be the worst way to die and yes another driver did try to help him out with no avail he heard williamson screaming while he burned to death very disturbing accident

  • R.I.P british hero

  • @darrennaruto You like to see people die?

  • another driver stopped and desperately tried to get him out but cudnt...he was reli upset wen he cudnt..

  • WTF are people on about below. Fucking idiots, its not fake look at the "grand prix the killer years" documentary you cunts. He was a well known driver. so FUCK OFF!!!!!!! Wish you'd all go and get burnt alive.

  • R.I.P

  • god bless david purley

  • why does this video have so many dislikes?

  • @TrainzFanCro94 Because you like a video of a driver winning, not burning to death.

  • @squirlybmx I know

  • @TrainzFanCro94 cos that's horrifying!! O:

  • mad respect to david purley - the only driver who tried to help williamson, unfortunately in vain.

  • Too bad they didn't manage to drag him out of that fire...He wasn't even injured after the crash, only the fire killed him...

  • @ursuss100 No, his death was due to asphyxiation.

  • @SuPrAxBaTMaN yea the fire sucked his oxygen

  • @ursuss100 no the fire hasnt kill him he was no oxigen he wasnt killed by fire!

  • @TheFILIPLAV he suffocated and suffered horrible burns that killed him

  • @ursuss100 correction, smoke

  • those front tires are way too fucking small.

  • Who's Kubica? Is there any decent driver in f1 of nowdays? Is f1 still f1?No no no !!!those drivers were heroes!!!

  • DICK!!!

  • FAKE VERY OLD ACCIDENT

  • Just flag as spam and select misleading title. They'll remove them and cancel the idiots account if they have enough offenses.

  • This is in very poor taste and is in fact a fatal F1 crash many years before this idiot who posted it was born. Judging by the stupidity I can only assume it is a child. As Kubica was seriously injured today people are genuinly interested to hear what happened.

  • only fake
