I don't think that people realize how difficult it is to actually learn and speak a second language. I am taking Spanish classes, and it is difficult. It's hard to remember what order the words go in, which syllable needs to be emphasized, etc. Imagine how much more difficult it was for Ziyi to go from reading Chinese characters to letters!! And to that numbskull making fun; Zhang Ziyi is learning another language but the tone of her voice actually sounds very poised. I don't speak much Chinese at all but in her films - especially Crouching Tiger you can hear how nicely she says her words in Mandarin in that movie.
