  • This is a good idea, we should make more of these free stores.

  • I think its a good idea, was thinks every spring here people have surplus vegatables,, eggs livestock they cant' care for. It would be nice to set up a free store to distribute these items to familys that can use them. Who don't have to qualify to get help. they can just show up. Same with clothing, house hold items.

  • Communist!

  • It's well past time we moved this idea beyond the art exhibit and experimental phase into the norm for the world. Why must we pay to live on the planet we're born on?

  • Enjoyed this Peter. I continue to watch you educate people, and hopefully at some point penetrate those living in areas that are insultated by prejudice and family dynamics that hold many of thses people back in this country from seeing real life. Thanks again. Steve

  • this guy is an idiot, but he is a good narrator.

  • I was 14 and timidly stepped into that free store on the corner and left with some slacks and short boots. It was better than shorts and sandles that I ran away from home (Daly City) with....oh, I forget to mention the man's jacket.

  • Not only has Peter Coyote had Everything FREE his entire rich life...now he's got a book that Rewrites history. Trustafarian telling others how to live better. LOL

  • she brought in a flat of donuts that she stole from a not free store.

    what a simpleton.

  • Is there a more dull actor?

  • Well Theres a lot of logic in that ............

  • Where can I find a free store near me? Lol, I want apart of that!

  • I went to one of the stores, it was great..

Are you sure we arent' on a 40 year trip loop, like they said happened in the montauk time rift?

  • Modern Slavery.

  • Resource based economy, ftw.

  • "As far as I'm concerned, the stuff is everybody's"...Think I will shop his home and pick out what I want. I mean he's the one that said EVERYBODY.

He's and idiot..."Stuff" has to be made/produced...who does he think is going to make it? People (like us) who actually go to work.......Oh....I get it.....I will work so that some lazyass can stay home and keep their life and have free "stuff".

  • The problem with your whiny rant is that free stores do exist. Workers collectives, where people make things for each other without salary hierarchies, also exist, as do DIY subcultures. I have yet to meet a patron or member or either that is a lazyass. In my experience, they work very hard because they are working for themselves, not for the owner. I have met plenty of lazyasses who rant whinily on the internet about hypothetical non-existent lazyasses, though.

  • @eirefrance Your first sentence makes you appear as a reactionist. Why don't you just give him his due and appreciate his effort to bring thisd to light for those people who have no clue that free stores exist.

  • @seau2007 My comment was not directed at Peter Coyote. It was directed at pzappster, whose comment you can read for yourself.

  • @eirefrance whiny rant? obviously ur dumbass has no clue what this man has done

  • @LivingIn1969 Who do you mean by "this man"? Are you referring to Peter Coyote, the speaker in this video? Because my comment was a reply to pzappster, whose comment you can read for yourself. If you were referring to pzappster, I'd be interested to know what he HAS done.

  • @pzappster I know this comment was posted a year ago but I feel the need to reply to it.

The merchandise given away in these free stores wasn't and isn't brand new manufactured products. The people making them have already received their works pay for the items. The point was to, rather than trash your old unwanted belongings, give them to the free store so that those who can't afford those items could still have them. A lot of people work hard for next to nothing so try to be understanding.

  • Profound stuff.

  • Is the store still there?

  • Makes me think of the Cincinnati time store.

I think a Non-profit society would run fine. It doesn't have to be free however, simply without profits as a mechanism, i don't see the logic in profits.

When you make a profit , somebody somewhere is getting screwed; Either your product is less in quality then advertised, You over charged for the goods/services in question or compensated your employees for less than the work they've performed. Its a detrimental idea .That's how i see it.

  • Your ignorance about human labor, trade and ownership, and liberty is astounding.

  • Interesting...

  • Peter Coyote is the man.
