I'm 14 and I head up a group of like 11 people and its the most fun I've ever had!!! we make are own rules!!!!! If people think this is nerdy than so is football.
I can totally deal with the whip of the weapons and the lack of technique. My holding had quite a few issues with these things also when starting up. Tech evolves with each new batch of weapons and fighting improves with the desire to win more frequently. What I can't understand is the complete lack of garb and role play. I certainly hope that aspect of the game has picked up for you boys. After all, if this hobby isn't an escape from the mundane, what is it?
Dude this was fucking awesome to watch! Best battle I've seen! This is exactly what I wanna do, not the gay dress up alter ego stuff just getting a bunch of friends and fight with swords. Mad props to all of you!!

If they went to an event obviously their weapons wouldn't work, but still no reason to be like NO. Ever thought that perhaps no one has shown them proper weapon construction so they just wing it?

I wanna know which fantasy film did you learn to fight from :D ..it looks very funny, but not like fencing :D ..next time use more solid cores to build weapons, we use oak wood or fiber-glass ;-)

95% of those weapons are illegal according to Amtgard Rules of Play... 1st. Weapons require cloth cover.. 2nd That Staff... OMG Whippy.. 3rd. The rope... WOW NO!!.. You can not through rope at people.. I love that Amtgard is spreading..

@synrach well, they may not be going by OFFICIAL RoP 7.0, but in past books, it was somewhat of a grey area as to the covering of weapons with duct tape to call it wrapped. the rope thing was a definite illegal weapon, but still. better to see them learn and grow than to try and stamp out what they have.

@Mericles whippy swords aren't illegal, the whipping motion of being bent around a sword doesn't have to be taken, but its more of the power they are generating behind the swings. Either way, name of the game is fun and they've got that so...
@Mericles As much as Amtgarders telling other groups how to do things annoys the shit out of me, I'd say I have to agree with this guy. Amtgard and most other organizations like it such as Dagohir, Belegarth etc. have strict rules and guidelines and their own sort of culture that is integral to them. Not wanting to do the same thing as them is fine but you should create your own thing like we did (search: Mahtalhande). Yours is kind of similar to our group so if you want you can be one of us.
just look up some videos on how to make the weapons and whatnot. and then just find a few friends who wanna play. thats how i set up this team in about 3 weeks and had somewhere around 25 ppl
Amtgard weapons require cloth covers...that's one problem I see to start.
