anybody else curious why the f-35 doesn't have a bubble canopy? because that could seriously boost dogfighting capabilities :/ as an aspiring fighter pilot myself i'd like to be able to see behind me
@SlyNicolai F22 is extremely powerful...HOWEVER....it's very unstable and has crashed a very numerous amount of times due to plain failures not due to combat.
The F22 is faster but the entire point of the F35 is that you can lock onto a target, fire a missile and then blow moch1.5 in the other direction, right?
Wrong! F-35 can only track 23 targets compare to the F-22 Raptor 100 targets. The Russian Su-35Bm only track 30 targets & Su-50 track only 32 targets.
This thing is fucking crazy! and the F-22. I don't like the Euro variant though. Seems to have to many parts to me. The hovering thing. This will whoop the harier though. And hopefully replace the f-18
F-22 can only track 16 smart one. Don't know the #'s for the Sukhois but they can't track 30+ thats for sure. So the F-35 wins. Not only can the F-35 track 23 targets with its radar but it can track many many more using DAS.
yup, iheard it too,but its just a freakin rumours..i got source from the inside that the JSF is really high tech and powerful jet ever made..thrust me....
the f22 is a better aircraft .. you get what you pay for I'm sure the f-35 is a great fighter but being from the US compromise is not something I'm used to
The F-35 is an incredible and effective aircraft, it was built for today's world, cheap, stealthy, extremely advanced technologically (look up the ad for the F-35's radar) and has a fairly good range.
the F-35 is like the raptor compared with the russian planes and its supposed to be like 5x more effective in air-to-air combat and of course 100x(not really) more effective in air-to-ground combat because thats its primary role
one of the reasons why the f-35 is cheaper is because alot of the technology was already created because of the f-22. which kept development costs down. but in a fight the f-22 will definatly outperform the f-35.
yup,it really both of it got the same AESA radar but the F-35 got an improved AESA radar which is classified..i cant find it in wiki and other source...but believe me dude, the JSF is fuckin better...
yeah the F-35 is a good aircraft able to dogfight and go in to enemy territory and blow up the enemy BUT in a dogfight the F-35 is nowhere as good as the F-22 is in A-A combat.but the F-35 is supposed to be better then any current russian fighter. they simulated combat(Computer) for the JSF and the only way the enemy was able to win was denying the JSF of fuel meaning the shot down tankers. of course that was just an expensive video game saying that
yup...this is because the JSF is multirole task jetfighter that US design for dogfight, recon, bombing and many more..this makes the capability of the JSF is lower than the f-22 because it trying to do many task at the same time...but if it get in dogfight believe me that the JSF cant run, cant turn and cant climb...
f-35 II is better as in its cheaper than the f-22 .. now that china makinJ_XX, Russsia su-50, pak fa and india MCa 5th genration stealth aircraft which is as good as the f-22 and at lower cost than even the f-35II .. i would still go with the F-35II
yes it can hover with as much as it's allowed to carry. but sadly, it can't supercruise. and the sortie length is compared to that of an F-16 with an extra external tank.
Why does it need to hover with a full payload Kaeferzwei? Why does it have to have "super-cruise" and depending on the variant it has a combat radius of 500-600 miles with INTERNAL fuel ONLY.....it can aerial refuel and can carry external tanks!
Whoever - Wherever - Never trust a recruiter. You could make it to OCS back in 70's without college - but you had to be damn sharp and keep a constant high score on everything you did. Today I am not sure. Like I said - Never trust a recruiter - he or she only their best interest in mind. If you can score a 99 or 100 on the ASVAB test - they will call you for months = and put nothing in writing.
But if you can score that, you might find a place for a nice career.
Also, at 2:32 you can see the order of the nations which are planning to aquire this plane (and the order in which they contributed funds to the project).
USA: Primary users
UK: level 1 partners
Italians and Dutch: level 2
The rest are level 3 (cheap bastards!)
Also, Isreal and Singapore plan to aquire some, possibly even India, Finland, Brazil, ROChina (though they may not get it because of the PROChina didn't like the idea), Spain and Greece.
Oh. I plan on attending West Point and then I am not sure from there. I can pass the physical requirements for every branch and special forces unit easily, but I am still unsure about what to do. I wanted to be a sniper, but officers can't unless they are in the SEALs.
You learned spanish in 5 years? You are really gifted! Let me illuminate you. We here learn english in 2 months, spanish in ONE, french in 3, german in one year... Yeah, offcourse i´ve heard of it. They are our rivals! I go there every year. I´ve also been in several other countries. And guess what, with exception from england, every country hates the states. You are only tolerated because of your economic and military power. Hey, dont blame them. this situation was caused by you guys...
Actually they are talking about cutting down the number ordered to be built...have to transfer funds to other projects and needs. Its a pricy aircraft, they are gonna reduce numbers, however they will not "cancel" them. They may pause production for a while and when funds begin to pick up again they'll continue the ordered number. Its too good of an aircraft to abandon...and the military knows it ; )
the F-35 is designed to be ground attack and support aircraft. Although it can dogfight and is stealth...the raptor(f-22) is built purposley for air supremecy...meaning it is proffesional for air combat. Both are very good aircraft, but proffesion in two very different roles.
And i personally feel the F-22 will dominate the F-35 in combat...but of course its all up to the pilot
I agree with most of what you say but one thing this plane is not only going to be a lethal ground attack aircraft it will also be a great dog fighter. The reason why I say this is because I am Canadian and I have been following the development of the F-35. Canada has been helping the development and the primary reason why Canada is interested is because this plane will be the country's front line fighter.
No doubt it will be a great dogfighter but its not its profession ; ) Quite a bit of aliied nations are part of the development. Each will recieve their own version of the aircraft for what they need.
What the hell are you all pissed about? I know all that...and there was no question to be answered...i simply said there eill be different versions of the F-35 depending on the country and the branches they serve.
Sorry for not being SPECIFIC enough for someone who didnt ASK to be. Dick Head
Ehh...Us nations in nato are occassionally rescourceful...and since the f-22 project was canceled for the usa...There will probably be a JSF Air Supremacy version too XD
And yes a f-22 would murder a F-35 in a dogfight...if it could detect it b4 the 35 fires off a good bit-o-missles XD
The F-22 isn't canceled.....,the program was halted at 187 aircraft for fiscal 2009 and is rumored to resume in 2010! The F-35 is much more important to the security of the USA since it is a multi-role plane capable of ground attack and air superiority......the F-16 fulfilled this role from the 70's til present!
umm... yes it is dickhead! It was suspended indefinately because of the excessive costs associated with the program. The military also wants to continue advancing aircraft technology and sited that they have and continue to enjoy the F-22's capabilities, but they are ready to move in into new frontiers of technology.
F22 Wasnt Cancelled dude Im a Maint Tech for One at Peterson AFB. They just cut the budget and only replaced F-15C,s And E's with them. Instead of all -F15's and 16's
There in Production Just a limited number. Most F-15's have been replaced already. Jets like the F-16 and A-10 will be replaced by the F35 instead of the Raptor. Yes. dont ask why but the Air Force wanted almost all it fighters to be raptor. I know allot of dudes Went back to Tech School t Learn Raptor Systems for nothing. Time like this I wish I stayed in the Army
hey just so you know your not to smart when it comes the the air force because you have to go like ROTC or OCS to become an officer to pilot the planes ya idiot
Im actually no idiot...I dont know why you called me that. ROTC is not a required field to become an officer to pilot an aircraft. It helps yes, but not required. An officer position can be attained through many scenarios. It depends on personality, previous experiences, and what the officers above you see in you.
Believe me...im not running into this without any thought, thinking Im GOING to get a slot, I have it planned and am prepared to take any altercation needed.
that is obviously why i said ocs or the AFA even if you get a higher rank to start you still would need to go to an Officer training school trust me i have talked to recruiters also how is your vision is it 20/20? thats what it needs to be. You may think you are going to get a slot but i highly doubt that. It is the toughest job to get in the USAF and if you enlist there is no real way to become an officer unless you go to that school after your first 8 years because that is the required term
I KNOW THAT TOO! ??? Are you trying to discourage me? You actually made a huge mistake by already talking to recruiters. I talk to REAL pilots.
I know its not easy AND I KNOW that I must take OTS. God your a prick, and if you really think you're gonna get a slot with an attitude like that, think again.
my question to you is are you going straight to OTS or are you going to also do basic and one other thing where i live i have only seen two people in the air force one i don't know and the other changed tires so fuck you
I am not going straight into OTS...it would be a dire mistake if anyone expects to do that. And it seems to me, if you've only talked to 2 people in the Air Force...you should have been saying the things you said below in previous comments.
Fuck You? And you want to join the Air Force? I dont think I deserve a "fuck you" seeing how I was only responding cordially.
you did not respond nicely and you are so thick headed that you think you are going to get a slot? how old are you like 13 psh that can change in an instant on what you want to do so stop crying to your mommy little boy
The only part I didnt respond cordially...I didnt say "nicely"...is when I called you a prick.
Im NOT thick headed and think I am for sure going to get a slot. I know its the hardest job in the world to get, but Its not stopping me from working my hardest to achieving it. I've been working for it since I was 12 and a DICKHEAD like you who THINKS they konw what their talking about isnt going to get in my way.....not that you've affected me any.
wow funny thing is i have been studying the military in college i just wanted to see what college life was like before i made any choices like if i wanted to join or not like i mean history is my major but i also have been doin research on the military at my college
I was typing just fine in all the other comments, just that one...
Now you're turning it into a competition? Dude, seriouisly get a life. Im done arguing with someone Im most likely never going to see and could most likely beat down.
wow im scared! You fight ufc? What style do you profesion in?
Ive been training and arena fighting muay thai since I was 8. It'd be kinda funny watching a 17 year old beat down a 20 year old "grown man"(if you're even that)
I actually can with consent of guardian. And I wouldnt need to any permission to say that ive had my fair share of assholes like you. And lemme guess....you learned your "brazillian jiu jitsu" in highschool wrestling. And i really doubt that you "fight ufc shit" seeing how you're in college right now. Why not post up a vid of your fighting? Lets see if you're real.
same of you i don't see none of you and no i wasn't in high school wrestling thats for gay guys like you...i played basketball in high school i took lessons while i was in high school then started fights for real once i graduated
u fucking ignorant portrogese fuck head i dont see ur country being anything special infact most of u are fucking villagers that need to get over you jealousy to the so obviously inferior america u cant argue against what u dont have a fuckin clue about DUMBASS!
You're a fucking ignorant dumbass. 99% of kids don't have to go through a metal detector to go to school. Just because you've seen a movie about America doesn't mean it's true. And btw, if you think "dumbness" is how we got to be the only ultrapower in the world, you're country must be full of retards like yourself to have gotten where it is.
yeah yeah yeah insult me! Its hard to get valid arguments isnt it? Yeah, americans like einstein, tezla, etc etc ALL AMERICAN BOYS that come from europe and japan!!!
I could try to explain, but you are just another redneck, i would have to draw lots of big and collourful pictures for you to understand. It would be boring. 90% of americans only speak one language. Does that tell you something?
firstly, you started the insults, secondly, America has done more for this world in terms of technology than any other country. Also, I am not a redneck, that's just one of your stupid American stereotypes. If anyone argues against you, you go straight to calling them a redneck. I DO speak another language, I spent 5 years learning it in school. It's called Spanish. Heard of it dumbfuck? At least I can swallow my pride and admit my country has its faults, but guess what, every one does.
any radar can detect any plane. you may not get a lock and by then your falling to earth in a big ball of fames. 5 F15s went up against one f22. all 5 F15 were shot down before the F22 were ever detected.
Those dogfights between U.S. and Soviet aricraft were all 50-60 years ago.
Air combat has evolved a lot since then, I very much doubt a F-15 could ever take down a F-22, because in every war game they have ever done the F-15s were all dead before even catching a glimpse of the F-22s
"So,should it supprise anyone if a well experienced pilot with an F-15 took down some F-22s?"
That doesn't make the F-22 inferior though. A fucking Sopwith Camel could eventually take down an F-22 if we gave it several million chances, but that doesn't mean that the Camel is a better fighter.
Fact is, the F-22 is superior to every other fighter out there. Invincible? No. Superior? Yes.
Also one counter measures work much better with a VLO aircraft. A fighter with an RCS of 0.001 sqm is much easier to hide with ECMs than a fighter with 1-10+ sqm.
F-15/16s now detect F-22s at no more than 15-20km. And pilots say that even at that it's difficult to have a lock.
What advantage exactly does an su-30/35 have on an F-35? Thrust vectoring? it's not that much of an advantage. A big radar? The APG-81 has the latest generation of emitters/recepters.
The APG-81 E/R are 2 generations beyond those on the original APG-77 of the F-22. It's likely that the F-35 radar will have a range as good or almost as good as the original F-22.
Plus there's the possibility of doing eletronic attacks with AESAs. But for that you need to know where the target is! The F-22 has or will soon have that capability. The USAF is working on several other systems for other aircraft that can do that with AESAs.
The Su-30/35 with their large RCS would get KILLED.
Also the it will certainly be possible to upgrade the APG-81 antenna with new E/R as new generations become available.
That's what they did on the F-22.. The APG-77 have been upgraded to the APG-77 V(1) standard with a new generation of E/R. ( the one before the APG-81's E/R ). That kind of upgrade will be cost effective on the F-35 and will ensure that the F-35 will continue to have first detection.
"F-15/16s now detect F-22s at no more than 15-20km."
No they don't. The F-22's frontal RCS is said to be "better than" 0.0001m2 @ several hundred feet. An F-15/16 wouldn't even detect it from a kilometer away...much less 15-20kms.
aviationweek. com/aw/generic/story_channel. jsp?channel=defense&id=news/F22-020409. xml
-40dBsm = 0.0001m2.
All RCS testing on American stealth aircraft goes through the Helendale Measurement Facility in the Mojave Desert. An exact model of the aircraft sits several hundred feet in front of the ground-based radars. It should be noted that these radars are much more powerful and larger than a radar on an aircraft.
I know that.. but it would take a MUCH LOWER RCS to not be detected before 1km.
An a/c with an RCS of 1/(16)^4 = 0.00025 will be detected at 1/8th of the distance of a 1 sqm a/c.
You will never hear anyone who knows anything about all that claim that the F-22 is detected at only 1km.. well I've never seen that. Usually it's more like15-20km and a bit more for the F-35..
If the F-22's RCS is smaller than 0.0001m2 @ several hundred feet, then it's going to be even smaller @ 1km.
And it will be yet even SMALLER @ 15kms. There's no way that an F-15/16 can detect an F-22 at that distance.
In fact, show me some actual proof that the F-15/16 can detect the F-22 at that distance. Got any first hand testimony? Anything from a respectable source to back up your claims?
LM has said that there is enough space in the bays for 6 AMRAAMs, maybe even 8.
The JDRARM will have foldable wings and fins, it will probably be possible to pack 8 missiles per bay.
For external missiles, if the F-35 carries external JDRARMs, the JDRAMs with their very long range, can be launched will before the aircraft is detected. The pylons can be ejected after.
People who criticize the F-35 fail to understand that it will evolve, you can't have all the capabilities at IOC.
Trying to have all the capabilities at IOC would delay the program significantly. A lot of countries can't wait years for a new aircraft.
The 2 external missiles are just the easiest way to get 2 more shots at IOC. They just have to make a small pylon that's it. Every country already has the rail launchers to mount on the pylon.
Also there's more than one way to skin a can.. you can destroy an air force in the air with super fighters or you can destroy it on the ground.
I'm talking about small air forces here, *****. I don't have 100 F-35s to play with unlike you. I have a precious few (40 or so) to fly, and I wanna make damn good use of it. I'd rather buy a late model version instead... something with at least Mach 1.8...
The Su-33 is NOT significantly faster that the F-35! It cannot supercruise with its external missiles.
The Su-33 would fly without using its afterburner at the beginning of the engagement. The F-35 on the contrary would detect it from long range and would have the time to use its AB to accelerate in supersonic. So in fact, even if the su is has a better theoretical top speed, in reality the F-35 is likely to be faster. It would shoot first at long range 90% of the time...
BTW the F-35A will be the fastest of the 3, it will probably be capable of M1.8. The sweep angle and the mach angle permit that kind of speed without problem.
To get back to the internal capability of only 4 missiles, why don't YOU or other countries like Australia, Canada (I am from CAnada.. ) etc make these dual launchers for the bays' main stations? They could, I mean it's not the end of the world.. but the thing is that they have not yet commited to the aircraft.
It doesn't make sense NOW to start spending money on that.
Also, if you want 6 internal missiles, you have to modify the IR missiles to be ejectable, that's more investment too for an aircraft that has done only a few percent of its flight testing.
But a couple years from now, when countries start to invest heavily in the aircraft, it will be relatively easy to do that.
The same kind of progressive capability happens to any aircraft btw..
I read a comment from a F-16 pilot 2 days ago who said exactly the contrary.
Not to say close-in dogfights would not happen, but pilots would avoid them because it is mutual suicide.. And the F-35 pilot will NOT have to manoeuver to engage. Its missile will have 180deg off boresight capability, plus the 360deg capability of the DASS.
The F-22 will get a similar capability as the DASS with an upgrade to its MLD. It will just not be as good.
You can't compare a AIM-120D or JDRARM with a 40 years old sparrow!
Do you compare today's cars with cars of 40 years ago?
Also the F-35 has its EOTS which is a derivative of the sniper. The EOTS can track air target at long range. F-16 pilots already train with the sniper for air to air.
The pilot will have many ways of identifying targets at long range.. AESA radar, EOTS, IFF, RWR, datalink, etc.. that's not comparable to 40 years ago.
And when it come to the SCAAARY Su-35.. the su-35 will carry 10-12 missiles externally. That will increase drag significantly, all the more that the missiles are not carried in tandem or semi-recessed. 10-12 missiles with 10-12 pylons.. How much is it going to affect its speed? If the aircraft can do Mach 2.35 clean, it will do what? Mach 1.8-Mach2 with 10-12 missiles? The F-35A will probably be capable of Mach 1.8 with its internal missiles, not much difference there..
Moreover the Su-35 will have 4 pylons per wing, and carrying pylons decreases lift somewhat, because it affects the airflow. The F-35 will have its wings clean.
As for thrust vectoring, TV systems have been available for both the F-100 and F-110 for about 15 years. Not a single cunstomer has purchased them for their F-15s and F-16.
The typhoon also has TV as an option I believe and most countries STILL WANT THE F-35.
Like I said before, the F-35 will be able to carry many more missiles internally in the future. If the successor of the AMRAAM, the JDRARM, has folded fins, which will probably be the case, the F-35 will be able to carry 4 missiles per bay.
I repeat again that LM has said that it is possible to mount 6 AMRAAMs internally in the F-35. I even believe that it is part of a future development spiral ( spiral 4 I think I am not sure ).
Also one can question the need for more than ~ 6 missiles.
Historically triple kills have been very rare. The last one for the USAF dates back from 1994 ( from an F-16 with 4 missiles ) I believe and the one before from the Korean war.
A pair of F-35s with 6 internal missiles would have 12, which is well enough for the vast majority of scenarios.
Now why the su-30 carries 10-12 missiles.. gess why.. because their mssiles are not that good!
plus like I said before the F-35 will be capable of 55 deg aoa which is excellent. Not much use of TV with that.
All the more that with a regular exhaust it's possible to have a low observable exhaust (LOAN).
Vectoring nozzles cannot be made Low observable, and they are also more fragile. One missile shot close to the exhaust is likely to damage the 2 nozzles and the aircraft is toast. It can even be a problem with the high precision of the -9X which can attack any part of the aircraft.
I do agree with that; but what about the carriers? The russian navy operates ski-jump carriers that are capable of launching Su-33's (still flankers, here) with BVRAAM missles such as the AA-12. Responding to your earlier comment, what the hell is the JDRAM? Official data has not even been released about it, so how can you talk about it like it's some wikipedia article? Wait till it is smaller than the Phoenix then I'll talk to you about internal storage.
The JDRARM is the successor of the AMRAAM and of the HARM. It is in early stage of development now. It's expected to be in service between 2015 and 2020.
The AIM-120D is just a stop gap before the JDRARM.
well cant know everything can i:) and if you know much about Norway i will be impressed. and the f35 sure as hell dont look to become a good aircraft, its heavy, slow and cant carry much. and has not the russians missiles that go much longer then the american ones.
The F-35 in my opinion is a rather slow and incapable fighter. If the Russian-developed "anti-stealth radar" works, it's gonna get it's ass kicked. PLUS: It's so slow at a maximum speed of Mach 1.6 at alt that it probably can't bug out if it has to, against a suitable opponent like a Mig-30.
Fine, but that simply goes to prove my point. If the F-35 can't muster enough raw stats to outperform or at least match eastern bloc fighters like the chinese J-11, it's gonna be a waste of bl00dy f*cking money. Forgive me for my bad language, but in my opinion, the next war will be a silent war, man, silenco. No radars emitting, all IRSTs and other passive sensors glommed on onto american air power, ready to pickle off an AA-12.
Erich Hartmann fought in WW2 with the priniciple of "strike fast and true" and ended up scoring 350+ kills. The (or you) Americans have obviously applied that to the skies over Nam and discarded manoeuverability for speed and not-so-sophisticated missles. 'Nam saw American fighters being in tough positions unable to kill due to fancy missle tech bugging out. Now, the US takes "manoeuverable" and "stealthy" weapons systems to the skies. As in the 'Nam, the key is technology here. If it gets
If American technology gets... shall i say fucked up, as in the 'Nam, the USA will revert back to another war of attrition. Why can't the US learn from the (Ex-)Soviets? The Su-27 and its follow up variants are the perfect example of a combination of speed and agility, while integrating top-of-the-line avionics and weapons systems. The Communist regieme might have degraded the Su-27s to rustbuckets, but if the US had come up with a similar airframe, it would have clearly had an advantage.
Therefore, in my opinon, 200km missiles and thrust vectoring are not the key to success. I don't care what the size of its radar return is; it won't have the balls to fight if it has to carry its AMRAAMS, ASRAAMS and JDRAAMS externally. Those damn pointy-shaped soda cans are gonna fuck up the F-35's radar signature. The F-35's internal missile capacity is at max, 4 AMRAAMS with a (barely) feasible ground attack load. I don't care about your "first shot'' crap, but (view next post)
I don't care about your first shot crap. If the Flanker-F's and the J-11s dodge all your missles, and bug out at Mach 2, you aren't gonna get your kill. If your Flankers get behind your F-35's ass(while it's hauling an almost feasible attack load), the F-35 ain't got supercruise and it ain't got mach 2.35, so it's going down if it doesn't pickle off its load. Also, Russian radar freq jumping or ultra-low freq-ing can glom onto ur fatso F-35s. The result: Lightings getting struck by flankers...
What's more the AIM-9X block 2 and the JDRARM will have 180 deg off boresight capability.
And the F-35 will be capable of 55 degrees aoa.
TV has the big disadvantage of causing a big loss of speed. If the pilot continues to do post stall manoeuvres, the aircraft falls because it has no lift.
And TV does NOT increase sustained turn rate, it improves only instantaneous turn rate.
With 55 degrees aoa the F-35 will have a very good pointing capability. And it's 9g capable,F-35A at least.
anybody else curious why the f-35 doesn't have a bubble canopy? because that could seriously boost dogfighting capabilities :/ as an aspiring fighter pilot myself i'd like to be able to see behind me

The F-35 is an incredible and effective aircraft, it was built for today's world, cheap, stealthy, extremely advanced technologically (look up the ad for the F-35's radar) and has a fairly good range.
xero993 2 years ago 2
I wouldn't say cheap, but everything else was correct!
Cheap i mean compared to crappy SU'S
LiwamGeebon 2 years ago
And you learned that information from where?
brofranomo 2 years ago
Video, the entire project cost $200(USD)
But the lanes are only like 60 mil each
the new chinese plane is so gay it cost like 125 mil and its really shitty
LiwamGeebon 2 years ago
the F-35 is like the raptor compared with the russian planes and its supposed to be like 5x more effective in air-to-air combat and of course 100x(not really) more effective in air-to-ground combat because thats its primary role
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
one of the reasons why the f-35 is cheaper is because alot of the technology was already created because of the f-22. which kept development costs down. but in a fight the f-22 will definatly outperform the f-35.
KevinDR1987 2 years ago
the F-22 has thrust vectoring and is much faster because it has a different role than the JSF but both are supposed to be amazing dogfighters
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
i admitted that, but the JSF got better radar, the AESA/PESA brand new radar which is better than the Raptor..
lagendarock92 2 years ago
the F-22 has the same radar both F-22 and JSF have AESA.
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
yup,it really both of it got the same AESA radar but the F-35 got an improved AESA radar which is classified..i cant find it in wiki and other source...but believe me dude, the JSF is fuckin better...
lagendarock92 2 years ago
yeah the F-35 is a good aircraft able to dogfight and go in to enemy territory and blow up the enemy BUT in a dogfight the F-35 is nowhere as good as the F-22 is in A-A combat.but the F-35 is supposed to be better then any current russian fighter. they simulated combat(Computer) for the JSF and the only way the enemy was able to win was denying the JSF of fuel meaning the shot down tankers. of course that was just an expensive video game saying that
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
yup...this is because the JSF is multirole task jetfighter that US design for dogfight, recon, bombing and many more..this makes the capability of the JSF is lower than the f-22 because it trying to do many task at the same time...but if it get in dogfight believe me that the JSF cant run, cant turn and cant climb...
lagendarock92 2 years ago
f-35 II is better as in its cheaper than the f-22 .. now that china makinJ_XX, Russsia su-50, pak fa and india MCa 5th genration stealth aircraft which is as good as the f-22 and at lower cost than even the f-35II .. i would still go with the F-35II
RydeWidWolf 2 years ago
dosn't matter if those planes are better or not. the deciding factor would be pilot training.
KevinDR1987 2 years ago
i like the f-35 but i honestly think the aircraft its replacing are better (f-16,a-10,f-18) cuz it cant dance with a sukhoi

-does it have super cruise?
-how long can sortie?
kaeferzwei 2 years ago
yes it can hover with as much as it's allowed to carry. but sadly, it can't supercruise. and the sortie length is compared to that of an F-16 with an extra external tank.
futuref22pilot 2 years ago
No it can't hover with a full payload......that's absurd! It can STOL thoughh!
ozzy1351 2 years ago

CancerousAids 2 years ago
Hazzah! The UK has ordered around 150 of these babies, noone else (aside from the USA) is going to have that many.

Oh. I plan on attending West Point and then I am not sure from there. I can pass the physical requirements for every branch and special forces unit easily, but I am still unsure about what to do. I wanted to be a sniper, but officers can't unless they are in the SEALs.
pappy1193 2 years ago
Cambruda, how are you going to be a pilot if you enlist? I've only ever heard of officers being pilots.
pappy1193 2 years ago
well I obviously dont start right off. After 4-5 years of enlistment I plan on recieving my Bachelors degree and I would be moving through ranks.
Its not an easy task by any means.
However being an Eagle Scout in boyscouts immediately gives me credit of higher rank upon enlistment.

the only thing i dont like bout f-35 is that it can only carry 4 missiles if its on the stealth mision.
HolyAngemon007 2 years ago
Actually they are talking about cutting down the number ordered to be built...have to transfer funds to other projects and needs. Its a pricy aircraft, they are gonna reduce numbers, however they will not "cancel" them. They may pause production for a while and when funds begin to pick up again they'll continue the ordered number. Its too good of an aircraft to abandon...and the military knows it ; )
cambruda 2 years ago 2
this is also coming from a future enlisted memeber
marrow089 2 years ago
Same here. And only 2 if it's on a bombing mission. They should develop a missile pod system for it.
vidcritic27 2 years ago
the F-35 is designed to be ground attack and support aircraft. Although it can dogfight and is stealth...the raptor(f-22) is built purposley for air supremecy...meaning it is proffesional for air combat. Both are very good aircraft, but proffesion in two very different roles.
And i personally feel the F-22 will dominate the F-35 in combat...but of course its all up to the pilot
cambruda 2 years ago 4
I agree with most of what you say but one thing this plane is not only going to be a lethal ground attack aircraft it will also be a great dog fighter. The reason why I say this is because I am Canadian and I have been following the development of the F-35. Canada has been helping the development and the primary reason why Canada is interested is because this plane will be the country's front line fighter.
goleafbudsgo 2 years ago
No doubt it will be a great dogfighter but its not its profession ; ) Quite a bit of aliied nations are part of the development. Each will recieve their own version of the aircraft for what they need.
cambruda 2 years ago
It's not a fuckin' car and made to order...
The F-35 will come in 3 different versions:
F-35A - Conventional Take-off and Landing (COTL) and the only version equipped with a cannon.
F-35B - Short Take-off and Vertical Landing and is only stressed to 7.5g vs. the F-35A & C's 9g ability.
F-35C - Carrier capable aircraft with larger, folding wings, improved low-speed control and stronger landing gear.
Don't respond to comments or questions if you don't know the fuckin' answer!
GypsySlide 2 years ago
What the hell are you all pissed about? I know all that...and there was no question to be answered...i simply said there eill be different versions of the F-35 depending on the country and the branches they serve.
Sorry for not being SPECIFIC enough for someone who didnt ASK to be. Dick Head
cambruda 2 years ago
yes it will no doubt be a great dogfighter=] however its purpose is for attack ;)
But as ive read, some countries, such as canada, are using it as there front line fighter
cambruda 2 years ago
Ehh...Us nations in nato are occassionally rescourceful...and since the f-22 project was canceled for the usa...There will probably be a JSF Air Supremacy version too XD
And yes a f-22 would murder a F-35 in a dogfight...if it could detect it b4 the 35 fires off a good bit-o-missles XD
MikeW259 2 years ago
umm...the f-22 project is not canceled.
cambruda 2 years ago
i was told it was...like last wek...youtube "F-22 Cancelled"
MikeW259 2 years ago
The F-22 isn't canceled.....,the program was halted at 187 aircraft for fiscal 2009 and is rumored to resume in 2010! The F-35 is much more important to the security of the USA since it is a multi-role plane capable of ground attack and air superiority......the F-16 fulfilled this role from the 70's til present!
ozzy1351 2 years ago
umm... yes it is dickhead! It was suspended indefinately because of the excessive costs associated with the program. The military also wants to continue advancing aircraft technology and sited that they have and continue to enjoy the F-22's capabilities, but they are ready to move in into new frontiers of technology.
Get your facts straight before you talk asshole!

Time like this I wish I stayed in the Army
glw431 2 years ago
Yeah theres no way they're gonna replace every aircraft in our inventory. We still need to have expendables.
However Im a future enlisted member and would hope to recieve a pilot slot in one of them....let alone just be around them
cambruda 2 years ago
hey just so you know your not to smart when it comes the the air force because you have to go like ROTC or OCS to become an officer to pilot the planes ya idiot
marrow089 2 years ago
Im actually no idiot...I dont know why you called me that. ROTC is not a required field to become an officer to pilot an aircraft. It helps yes, but not required. An officer position can be attained through many scenarios. It depends on personality, previous experiences, and what the officers above you see in you.
Believe me...im not running into this without any thought, thinking Im GOING to get a slot, I have it planned and am prepared to take any altercation needed.
An idiot?I think not
cambruda 2 years ago
that is obviously why i said ocs or the AFA even if you get a higher rank to start you still would need to go to an Officer training school trust me i have talked to recruiters also how is your vision is it 20/20? thats what it needs to be. You may think you are going to get a slot but i highly doubt that. It is the toughest job to get in the USAF and if you enlist there is no real way to become an officer unless you go to that school after your first 8 years because that is the required term
marrow089 2 years ago
I KNOW THAT TOO! ??? Are you trying to discourage me? You actually made a huge mistake by already talking to recruiters. I talk to REAL pilots.
I know its not easy AND I KNOW that I must take OTS. God your a prick, and if you really think you're gonna get a slot with an attitude like that, think again.

And there is no required term to go through OTS. Whoever told you that is a liar...probably one of your "Recruiters"

marrow089 2 years ago
I am not going straight into OTS...it would be a dire mistake if anyone expects to do that. And it seems to me, if you've only talked to 2 people in the Air Force...you should have been saying the things you said below in previous comments.
Fuck You? And you want to join the Air Force? I dont think I deserve a "fuck you" seeing how I was only responding cordially.

Im NOT thick headed and think I am for sure going to get a slot. I know its the hardest job in the world to get, but Its not stopping me from working my hardest to achieving it. I've been working for it since I was 12 and a DICKHEAD like you who THINKS they konw what their talking about isnt going to get in my way.....not that you've affected me any.

any radar can detect any plane. you may not get a lock and by then your falling to earth in a big ball of fames. 5 F15s went up against one f22. all 5 F15 were shot down before the F22 were ever detected.
razony 2 years ago
Did they put "green" experienced pilots against the F-22?
Dudtz 2 years ago
The pilots in the f-15s were actually more experienced than the pilot in the f-22, but they are all top notch pilots of course.
NifoOtiBoy 2 years ago
Still,a bunch of MiG-17s lacking RADAR and missiles did fine against stuff like F-105s and F-4s.
So,should it supprise anyone if a well experienced pilot with an F-15 took down some F-22s?
Dudtz 2 years ago
Those dogfights between U.S. and Soviet aricraft were all 50-60 years ago.
Air combat has evolved a lot since then, I very much doubt a F-15 could ever take down a F-22, because in every war game they have ever done the F-15s were all dead before even catching a glimpse of the F-22s
NifoOtiBoy 2 years ago
Uh no,the 1970s isn't 50 years ago.
These "war games sound" like disinformation,no aircraft is so invulnerable.
Dudtz 2 years ago
"So,should it supprise anyone if a well experienced pilot with an F-15 took down some F-22s?"
That doesn't make the F-22 inferior though. A fucking Sopwith Camel could eventually take down an F-22 if we gave it several million chances, but that doesn't mean that the Camel is a better fighter.
Fact is, the F-22 is superior to every other fighter out there. Invincible? No. Superior? Yes.

aanderson66 2 years ago 3
Also one counter measures work much better with a VLO aircraft. A fighter with an RCS of 0.001 sqm is much easier to hide with ECMs than a fighter with 1-10+ sqm.
F-15/16s now detect F-22s at no more than 15-20km. And pilots say that even at that it's difficult to have a lock.
What advantage exactly does an su-30/35 have on an F-35? Thrust vectoring? it's not that much of an advantage. A big radar? The APG-81 has the latest generation of emitters/recepters.
Battery9876 2 years ago
The APG-81 E/R are 2 generations beyond those on the original APG-77 of the F-22. It's likely that the F-35 radar will have a range as good or almost as good as the original F-22.
Plus there's the possibility of doing eletronic attacks with AESAs. But for that you need to know where the target is! The F-22 has or will soon have that capability. The USAF is working on several other systems for other aircraft that can do that with AESAs.
The Su-30/35 with their large RCS would get KILLED.
Battery9876 2 years ago
Also the it will certainly be possible to upgrade the APG-81 antenna with new E/R as new generations become available.
That's what they did on the F-22.. The APG-77 have been upgraded to the APG-77 V(1) standard with a new generation of E/R. ( the one before the APG-81's E/R ). That kind of upgrade will be cost effective on the F-35 and will ensure that the F-35 will continue to have first detection.
Battery9876 2 years ago
"F-15/16s now detect F-22s at no more than 15-20km."
No they don't. The F-22's frontal RCS is said to be "better than" 0.0001m2 @ several hundred feet. An F-15/16 wouldn't even detect it from a kilometer away...much less 15-20kms.
ohainoob 2 years ago
it's more than that.. To not be detected at 1km would mean an RCS of 0.00000001sqm.. range is proportional to the 1/2^4 of the RCS..
Battery9876 2 years ago
aviationweek. com/aw/generic/story_channel. jsp?channel=defense&id=news/F22-020409.
An F-15/16 will not detect the F-22 @ 15kms.
ohainoob 2 years ago
I know that.. but it would take a MUCH LOWER RCS to not be detected before 1km.
An a/c with an RCS of 1/(16)^4 = 0.00025 will be detected at 1/8th of the distance of a 1 sqm a/c.
You will never hear anyone who knows anything about all that claim that the F-22 is detected at only 1km.. well I've never seen that. Usually it's more like15-20km and a bit more for the F-35..
Battery9876 2 years ago
If the F-22's RCS is smaller than 0.0001m2 @ several hundred feet, then it's going to be even smaller @ 1km.
And it will be yet even SMALLER @ 15kms. There's no way that an F-15/16 can detect an F-22 at that distance.
In fact, show me some actual proof that the F-15/16 can detect the F-22 at that distance. Got any first hand testimony? Anything from a respectable source to back up your claims?
ohainoob 2 years ago
holy shit you're one hell of a retard!!!

Battery9876 2 years ago
Trying to have all the capabilities at IOC would delay the program significantly. A lot of countries can't wait years for a new aircraft.
The 2 external missiles are just the easiest way to get 2 more shots at IOC. They just have to make a small pylon that's it. Every country already has the rail launchers to mount on the pylon.
Also there's more than one way to skin a can.. you can destroy an air force in the air with super fighters or you can destroy it on the ground.
Battery9876 2 years ago
A force of 100 F-35s can carry 800 SDBs and 200 JDRARMs.. good luck trying to intercept that before the SDBs are dropped on your aircraft shelters..
Battery9876 2 years ago
I'm talking about small air forces here, *****. I don't have 100 F-35s to play with unlike you. I have a precious few (40 or so) to fly, and I wanna make damn good use of it. I'd rather buy a late model version instead... something with at least Mach 1.8...
watchnrate 2 years ago
The Su-33 is NOT significantly faster that the F-35! It cannot supercruise with its external missiles.
The Su-33 would fly without using its afterburner at the beginning of the engagement. The F-35 on the contrary would detect it from long range and would have the time to use its AB to accelerate in supersonic. So in fact, even if the su is has a better theoretical top speed, in reality the F-35 is likely to be faster. It would shoot first at long range 90% of the time...
Battery9876 2 years ago

Long range shooting?!
Hah!
Most air to air fights happen at normal visual range.
Dudtz 2 years ago
Who are you? a pilot??
I read a comment from a F-16 pilot 2 days ago who said exactly the contrary.
Not to say close-in dogfights would not happen, but pilots would avoid them because it is mutual suicide.. And the F-35 pilot will NOT have to manoeuver to engage. Its missile will have 180deg off boresight capability, plus the 360deg capability of the DASS.
The F-22 will get a similar capability as the DASS with an upgrade to its MLD. It will just not be as good.
Battery9876 2 years ago
You might want to look into a little thing called "The Vietnam War".
Dudtz 2 years ago
that was 40 years ago dude..
Ever heard of OFF-BORESIGHT MISSILES?
Battery9876 2 years ago
Ever hear of RADAR guided missiles?!
They existed back then, with them, you could fire at a target outside of normal visual range.
Oh me,a pilot?
I suppose so,I co-piloted a Beechcraft King Air.
Dudtz 2 years ago

Battery9876 2 years ago
Moreover the Su-35 will have 4 pylons per wing, and carrying pylons decreases lift somewhat, because it affects the airflow. The F-35 will have its wings clean.
As for thrust vectoring, TV systems have been available for both the F-100 and F-110 for about 15 years. Not a single cunstomer has purchased them for their F-15s and F-16.
The typhoon also has TV as an option I believe and most countries STILL WANT THE F-35.

So what do you think?
You think you canj ust launch a missile at another modern military aircraft, without a typical pilot noticing?
th other pilot, wuld hear the beep of the missile warning system, see what direction it is coming from, and take action.
Dudtz 2 years ago
Oh,and you compared a Su-35 with 10-12 missiles to an F-35 witha few internal missiles.
Why?
Dudtz 2 years ago
because that's how they would be used usually.
Battery9876 2 years ago
Also one can question the need for more than ~ 6 missiles.
Historically triple kills have been very rare. The last one for the USAF dates back from 1994 ( from an F-16 with 4 missiles ) I believe and the one before from the Korean war.
A pair of F-35s with 6 internal missiles would have 12, which is well enough for the vast majority of scenarios.
Now why the su-30 carries 10-12 missiles.. gess why.. because their mssiles are not that good!
And it increases the su-30 RCS too.
Battery9876 2 years ago
"Now why the su-30 carries 10-12 missiles.. gess why.. because their mssiles are not that good"
Not true at all. Su-30 carries Vympel R77 and R73 which are at least as good as AIM120C / AIM9X.
eimpulse7 2 years ago
1) except if the missile is launched from 150km.. which is just the point of having missiles with a long range.
2) it would be the same for the F-35 except that the F-35 is even better equipped to detect the launch of a missile thanks to its DASS.
Battery9876 2 years ago
plus like I said before the F-35 will be capable of 55 deg aoa which is excellent.
Battery9876 2 years ago
I do agree with that; but what about the carriers? The russian navy operates ski-jump carriers that are capable of launching Su-33's (still flankers, here) with BVRAAM missles such as the AA-12. Responding to your earlier comment, what the hell is the JDRAM? Official data has not even been released about it, so how can you talk about it like it's some wikipedia article? Wait till it is smaller than the Phoenix then I'll talk to you about internal storage.
watchnrate 2 years ago
The JDRARM is the successor of the AMRAAM and of the HARM. It is in early stage of development now. It's expected to be in service between 2015 and 2020.
The AIM-120D is just a stop gap before the JDRARM.

Btw, does anybody know anything about Singapore?

they like to build tall buildings there?.

SHALLOW.
However, i don't expect you to know anything about Singapore. The whole country is smaller than New York CITY.
watchnrate 2 years ago
well cant know everything can i:) and if you know much about Norway i will be impressed. and the f35 sure as hell dont look to become a good aircraft, its heavy, slow and cant carry much. and has not the russians missiles that go much longer then the american ones.
sisutrucks 2 years ago
The F-35 in my opinion is a rather slow and incapable fighter. If the Russian-developed "anti-stealth radar" works, it's gonna get it's ass kicked. PLUS: It's so slow at a maximum speed of Mach 1.6 at alt that it probably can't bug out if it has to, against a suitable opponent like a Mig-30.
watchnrate 2 years ago
Anti stealth radar? Come on man we downed F-117 with Russian radar from fifties and Neva
CodenameWASP 2 years ago
Fine, but that simply goes to prove my point. If the F-35 can't muster enough raw stats to outperform or at least match eastern bloc fighters like the chinese J-11, it's gonna be a waste of bl00dy f*cking money. Forgive me for my bad language, but in my opinion, the next war will be a silent war, man, silenco. No radars emitting, all IRSTs and other passive sensors glommed on onto american air power, ready to pickle off an AA-12.
watchnrate 2 years ago
the F-35 has a reduced IR signature too. Its radar is almost impossible to detect.
The future AAM ( JDRARM ) will have a range in excess of 200km with a tri-mode seeker + probably thrust vectoring for the interception phase.
The F-35 will have the first shot almost every f****** time.
Battery9876 2 years ago
Erich Hartmann fought in WW2 with the priniciple of "strike fast and true" and ended up scoring 350+ kills. The (or you) Americans have obviously applied that to the skies over Nam and discarded manoeuverability for speed and not-so-sophisticated missles. 'Nam saw American fighters being in tough positions unable to kill due to fancy missle tech bugging out. Now, the US takes "manoeuverable" and "stealthy" weapons systems to the skies. As in the 'Nam, the key is technology here. If it gets
watchnrate 2 years ago
If American technology gets... shall i say fucked up, as in the 'Nam, the USA will revert back to another war of attrition. Why can't the US learn from the (Ex-)Soviets? The Su-27 and its follow up variants are the perfect example of a combination of speed and agility, while integrating top-of-the-line avionics and weapons systems. The Communist regieme might have degraded the Su-27s to rustbuckets, but if the US had come up with a similar airframe, it would have clearly had an advantage.
watchnrate 2 years ago
Therefore, in my opinon, 200km missiles and thrust vectoring are not the key to success. I don't care what the size of its radar return is; it won't have the balls to fight if it has to carry its AMRAAMS, ASRAAMS and JDRAAMS externally. Those damn pointy-shaped soda cans are gonna fuck up the F-35's radar signature. The F-35's internal missile capacity is at max, 4 AMRAAMS with a (barely) feasible ground attack load. I don't care about your "first shot'' crap, but (view next post)
watchnrate 2 years ago
I don't care about your first shot crap. If the Flanker-F's and the J-11s dodge all your missles, and bug out at Mach 2, you aren't gonna get your kill. If your Flankers get behind your F-35's ass(while it's hauling an almost feasible attack load), the F-35 ain't got supercruise and it ain't got mach 2.35, so it's going down if it doesn't pickle off its load. Also, Russian radar freq jumping or ultra-low freq-ing can glom onto ur fatso F-35s. The result: Lightings getting struck by flankers...
watchnrate 2 years ago
The AIM-120D has a dual pulse rocket to improve end game manoeuvrability.
The JDRARM will be much better, and virtually impossible to avoid thanks to its thrust vectoring.
It will have a tri-mode seeker.. IR, EM and home on jamming. It will be extremely difficult to avoid, even with thrust vectoring.
For close range, the F-35 will not even need to manoeuvre, the missiles will be guided by the DASS, 360 deg coverage.
It's much better to use the DASS than to manoeuvre and lose speed.
Battery9876 2 years ago
What's more the AIM-9X block 2 and the JDRARM will have 180 deg off boresight capability.
And the F-35 will be capable of 55 degrees aoa.
TV has the big disadvantage of causing a big loss of speed. If the pilot continues to do post stall manoeuvres, the aircraft falls because it has no lift.
And TV does NOT increase sustained turn rate, it improves only instantaneous turn rate.
With 55 degrees aoa the F-35 will have a very good pointing capability. And it's 9g capable,F-35A at least.
