  • what part of alaska is this?

  • I used to pack a 44 auto mag until I found an Abrams M1-A1 on craigs list. Too big to fit in my pack but guaranteed to stop a bear or any large dinosaurs I stumble across. :-)

OK I was kidding. I do pack a S&W 357 wheel gun and 2 cans of bear spray. I don't mind hunting but I prefer to do anything possible to avoid kiling a bear that I don't intend to harvest.

  • sounds like an adventure if you don't mind going alone, as long as you brought guns for protection and you feel safe. I think sometime we all need to go do something like this all by ourselves to reflect on life and ourselves too.

  • that bear is like you must be fuckin crazy THIS IS MY YARD!

  • It's sad that just about anywhere you go, you can find trash.

  • cool video, looks like fun! do you carry/wear a bear bell when hiking around up there?

  • You take a gun but no bear pepper spray??? Dumb!

  • just wondering.... how do you sleep at night knowing a bear might come to your camp? i never really camp so i dont know how this works~~

  • You are going to get yourself killed.

First of all...YOU KEEP YOUR FOOD IN YOUR TENT!!! Get an Ursak and hang it on tree a quarter of a mile from your camp.

second of all. you freaking bring a .22 to fight of a bear!!!! that thing is just gonna piss him off.

  • Wow, thanks.

First off, I didn't have a tent. And I didn't store food in my camp.

Next, if you actually watch the video I wasn't carrying a .22 to face the bear, but a .45 LC. I had TWO GUNS.

    But thanks for the comment!

  • @Serellan lol I am sorry I was ignorant and didn't pay attention.

  • @tobigforyou most bears want food and dont care... they get the food you get away they happy..

  • @tobigforyou Dude, this guy's experienced. Watch the vid. And in Alaska, you're going to run into bear. Duh, carry a gun. he did right.

  • @tobigforyou a well placed shot with a .22 can kill a bear, natives use them so why cant someone else?

  • very cool video man. wow i was scared for u when that bear was right by you.. amazing video

  • That was great, hope you do more.

  • lol, all i need for camping is a knife.

  • cool. i'm visiting relatives in alaska soon. i should see i can find any cool mountains to climb :)

  • Fantastic film Serellan. Thanks for posting.I hope to get to Alaska next year.Has always been a dream of mine.

  • You guys have to provide us with a lot more of these single-trip reports!

Just imagine: MY "adventure" is to hijack a 500m mountain survived by "a felt 1mio tourists"! You guys are so *d*mn* lucky!

I think you guys HAVE to PROVIDE us "citizens" with detailed reports on your trips!

So that we can dream of it!

    Please continue!

  • Sorry for saying *you guys*, but imho its guys like you, Serellan, who can teach us "towners" how to survive ;).

  • Thanks!

  • Just found your vid. Great hiking vid. However, I think I would prefer the MRE's over roasted rodent. Cool trip! Beautiful view. I enjoy solo camping on occasion but I get spooked at night.

  • Thanks. I too prefer MRE's too rodent, but the rodent filled out the meal!

  • or do u carry both

  • I had both a .22 LR Ruger revolver and a .45 LC S&W pistol.

  • gotcha...one for small game and one for protection

  • at first you said it was a .22 pistol then .45

  • Excellent vid, thanks keep it up.

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Looks like fun. I haven't been out on a "minimalist" trip like that since I was in Civil Air Patrol in high school. I've really gotta get outdoors more often.

  • "go away bear!" hsahsah great trip! lots of fun..you shoot the bear didn't you?! hashash

  • nope

  • Nice, I liked it much! You could show more details of the "casual" things, like hunting the squirrel, cleaning and preparing it :).

  • I actually would have shown more, but youtube restricts you to ten minutes! )

  • daang you should do videos like this whenever you go into the great outdoors! good watch.

  • Brilliant video id love to do something like that.

  • great video. Is being mauled by a bear while you sleep not a risk?

  • It is a risk, but a very small one, as long as you don't store your food with you.

  • awesome video, i hope you can make more and post them.

i will be visiting alaska in june and am wondering if there is a fishing rule such as using specific type of baits or lures. I'll be there from Jun 26 through July 3..thanks in advance.

  • Camping in Alaska with just a blanket and tarp... and then the sqirrel roasting on ther campfire. This is why you don't have a girlfriend, dude.

  • Married for 13 years, thanks.

  • Looks like an American version of Survivor Man! Awesome job. Remember the episode where he is stalked by a grizzly in Idaho? Very remiscent, except the species of course. Great job!

  • I know the area I camp in, it's blackie only territory. In grizzly country I carry a 12g.

  • Yes, when I was younger.

  • I love your video....great attitude!

Man I hate litter I always pick it up to.

  • nothin scary about camping an hunting by yourself good times.

  • cool

  • Rule 1.

    Never go alone.

  • he seems to know his stuff....

  • I agree, but still. I'm too much of a puss to go alone lol.

  • Thanks, been doing it since I was a kid. And I hope to keep doing it for many more years.

  • Camping, hiking by your self?? whoa it would scare the shizz out if me!

  • haha, you're funny! kill anything with a pistol...

  • sweet vid, we dont have bears over here in england, so wow, cant believe you were so close to it, we do have grey squirrel though, i like to cook mine straight on the embers, suprisingly tasty, like the minimal campin too, always annoys me aswell when people leave there rubbish, again great vid, gonna go check out your other vids now.

  • save the last round for your self. .22 is usless lol

  • Thanks, thats why I also had a .45 LC, if you watch the video. :)

  • Thanks man that was cool.

  • Thanks for sharing - enjoyed the video.

  • Thanks for the posting. I live in Korea now and really miss the bush (BC boy). Like you I have "my own mountain" and return there again and again. It's like the place becomes a part of you and you just have to go back. Anyway I can only get my "fix" from vids like this on Utube so thanks again for sharing it.

  • Absolutely great documentary! I really loved it. Great job!

If you go again, please do message me and send me the video!

  • it must have been pretty cold up there

  • wow i thought u had to have a rifle or somthing to kill a bear

  • u cant kill a bear with a pistol

  • You're wrong, but thanks for the comment.

  • well a 22. will have a terrible time ,although a 45. will torch anything without armor ,handgun or rifle.

  • .22 for squirrels, .45 for bear. :)

  • I'm from Anchorage, and its cool to have a (relatively) well known game developer from around here. Did you go to Chugiak high?

  • Thanks! Yep, I graduated from Chugiak in '94.

  • looks like fun. but only one squirrel? i eat 3 or 4 of those with a plate of rice.

  • nice one rooster!

  • Looked like fun... but I'll take a hotel and a blackjack table for the overnight ;)

  • carry a gun? a whimppy .22 cal pistol

  • Watch again. I had two pistols, a .22 and a .45.

  • Pretty Cool. Sounds like a good vacation to me.

  • By the way, how was that squirrel.

  • I'll call it nutritious. :)
