I challenge all the amateur hipsters out there today who try to fake this kind of style, to copy this man's bass TONE as accurately as possible! He has a remarkable touch for playing so sparse. It is very flexible and modern, yet fairly clean.
Also, notice that although he nearly does a couple times, he never COMPLETELY loses the beat... and that groove keeps going!
While this is certainly not my favorite old-time piano recording, I do like it more than certain modern stuff.
