According to the Geneva Convention it is torture. The Japanese during World War II tortured American soldiers by water boarding. They were brought to trial found guilty then put to death.

that was the Korematsu case, and actually the Supreme Court found that putting thousands of innocent Japanese in internment camps was within the constitution, was not a violation of their equal protection rights because it was necessary to protect us from terrorism...technically this is nowhere near those internment camps. According to the Geneva Convention it is torture. The Japanese during World War II tortured American soldiers by water boarding. They were brought to trial found guilty then put to death.

that was the Korematsu case, and actually the Supreme Court found that putting thousands of innocent Japanese in internment camps was within the constitution, was not a violation of their equal protection rights because it was necessary to protect us from terrorism...technically this is nowhere near those internment camps. I don't think torture is ok, but if you go by precedent...

I'm not taking a position one way or the other whether laws were broken. Measured against history, the Bush/Cheney policies during wartime were actually quite lenient. I'm certain you're dismayed that Obama has bowed to Bush and continued just about every one of his war policies. I've noticed recently that the talk about "truth commissions" has ceased from the left. One can only assume that some pretty emabarrassing stuff would come out as a result.

It's actually a broad reference to many in the Democratic Party. You can bet your last nickel that many knew about enhanced interrogation techniques and were privately on board with it, the same way the majority of them were on board with Iraq until the political winds changed-and the casualties started mounting. Most people agree that Iraq was a terrible mistake, as do I. It's also a mistake to let anyone who supported it act like they were innocent bystanders after the fact.

Enhanced interrogation will live on, regardless of who is in power and noone will be charged with anything. It might be given a different, clever name or the methods might be modified, but it'll still be here. This feigned outrage you hear and have heard is just politics and pandering. You didn't watch the video obviously. The Obama administration declassified a number of memos regarding enhanced interrogation. They chose not to release others. In both cases they are within their right to do so. Cheney is simply saying release ALL memos and calling their bluff. The fact that this was rejected is very telling. The thing I love about Liberals is their commitment to tolerance-so long as you agree with them.

I am talking about the 7.5 years after 9/11. As far as going to Iraq, did you listen to this speech? Iraq was a UN condemned state sponsor of terrorism. Sadaam was also not allowing UN weapons inspectors in (a breach of treaty leading us to believehe had WMDs), and he commited a genocidal act in the gassing of the Kurds in northern Iraq (the gas was a WMD). The Iraq invasion was approved by the UN. And we did go into Afghanistan to oust the Taliban (terror sponsors) and take on Al Qaeda.
