  • Sledgehammers are made to break solid objects up, they will not break.

  • incorrect. done properly this exercise isn't suicide on anything.

  • that is a suicide for your wrists

  • You are one of two things, stupid or misinformed.

That will screw your wrists up, if you are doing any real hitting, other than that drop-the-hammer-on-the-stump that you are doing. The tire does not make it easier, you have to keep it from rotating much more than you do with this method.

  • the hammer doesn't break. and using a tire makes the exercise easier; thanks to the rebound there's no need to bring the hammer back.

i've been working with stumps and hammers for years and have yet to break a hammer, including the hundreds of athletes i work with.

  • umm, thats why people use big old tires so the hammer wont break...

  • nah....the hammer is built to smash and last. maybe the hulk or thing needs a special handle, but i haven't had any problem. then again i'm a puny human. ;)

  • if you're swinging it against something hard like a tree stump, won't your hammer break?

i mean, that much force and weight against the neck of that wooden handle

  • i would think sledge work would be tough on an injured elbow regardless of the nature of the injury.

  • i am really interested in this video but i have an elbow injury and unable to workout, could this maintain my muscle and not affect my elbow? please reply, thanks

  • Yeah, you may not have any problems at the moment. What I am trying to say is that using a lorry wheel puts less stress on your joints. It's also better for your technique.

  • i think lifting the tire and swinging the sledge are two different and effective exercises. one isn't better or worse than the other.

  • That's really bad for your joints. You need to use a lorry wheel. There is less shock on impact.

  • ridiculous...i'm 46-years old, have been doing this for years and haven't a stitch of problem with joints, back, or anything else. usually people who can't do this have a weakness or use poor technique.

  • great job

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • good stuff...im training for mma fights and i have seen lots of fighters use this technique...I gotta get me a sledgehammer!!!
