The only thing that always puzzles me about this first level is... what sick bastard decided it would be a good idea to not only throw the hardest character in the game (Lu Bu) into the first level, but to trick people into suicidally attacking him by making him a target?
lol we killed lu bu lvl 1 with a friend with lvl 1 characters, by using lvl 5 ice horses and using them as rockets to smash him xD

here's another hint for you to know, when the enemy dodge your attack, try the secondary attack to disarm them
