Simunition cartridges are LETHAL and not to be used for human targets. You can get paint BBs for Airsoft which will indicate whether or not your target has been hit while wearing their normal tactical gear or layers of gear andor clothing. The idea in Airsoft is not to "feel" the round hit you although, if you've ever been hit with an Airsoft BB you know it hurts like hell and leaves a nice bruise or in some cases even bleeds. The point is to be able to hit a live human target and not kill them.

Simunition cartridges are dangerous, not lethal. And paintball bbs cannot be used effectively. First, they can only be used in a breach loading pistol. Try loading them in a mag. Second, they are inaccurate and often fail to break.

You can certainly feel a bb.  And that is certainly the idea.

For one you cannot even own a military operational AR.. You need a form 18 on file with the government.. Thats states that you are either a law enforcement officer.. or that you are military personel.. Also.. if i was to shoot my friends with an AR they would be dead! Airsoft is all about MilSim.. its not about watching "bb's bounce off paper"! If you will notice in the background it sounded as if a skirmish was in progress.

That's a pretty near sighted statement.

First of all, you can't play airsoft games with real bullets unless you're suicidal.

Second, bb's are much cheaper than real bullets. Law enforcement has used airsoft for simulations. What you saw in that vid was from Systema, airsoft DESIGNED for training.

Real guns are lethal. Airsoft isn't. If you have an accident with airsoft, the worst that can happen is chipping a tooth or losing an eye. Accidents with real guns can kill you or someone else.

I would love to know of a police agency that uses airsoft for training. You have to train in all your gear to be familiar with moving in all that added bulk. You can't feel a toy gun's bb under all that.

Real force on force trainers use stuff called Simunition. Google it.

Airsoft is still fun, I don't mean to slam it, but it's still just a game.

Lexington County Sheriff's Department's SWAT team use Systema M4 and MP5 PTWs. First of all they arn't shooting each other, they're simulating on unarmored threats. Plus when you get shot with one they make a very distinctive thudding sound on your vest. Systema was built for Military and Law Enforcement training...the guns break down just like the real ones and work exactly like the real ones.

Adding to what Cre8tor said, if the FPS of the gun is not enough to be 'felt', you can always upgrade the spring to 500 FPS so you can 'feel' something. Most airsoft guns are bult 1:1 scale meaning it has the same size, and nearly same weight as a real steel version. I would see airsoft weapons used as training against people, while using the real steel for practice shooting and targets.

Real AR's still cost more than Airsoft. And Consider the fact that you can't own a real gun in some places. Airsoft is the next best thing. Do your research first before you make a judgment. Airsoft is cheap, you can get a decent gun, full-auto, and very durable, for $200 bucks. A Real AR, on the other hand, costs as much as a used car and still jams. Oh, and Airsoft allows you to actually shoot other people without killing them.

Airsoft exists because you cannot shoot your best friend 5 times in the same day and still have a best friend tomorrow. It also exists because it is a cheap way to target practice and practice muscle memory. It is still much more satisfying to fire off your Armalite, Heckler and Koch or AK real steel, but airsoft does have its' charms too. To think otherwise is just elitist bullshit thinking compensating for other physical and/or mental short comings. Both RS and AS are great. Period.

They're pretty cheap, actually. If you're gonna go completely overboard then it's expensive. But it's a fun game to play and is also more effective for training than lasers. I own a real AR and a shotgun but I also play airsoft.
