OWS is completely misguided. They whine about money in politics, despite standing next to a goonion thug. Then they turn around and demand government grow in size. You want less influence in govt? Simple. Make govt smaller. The less power the govt has, the less influence money can buy. Try telling that to an #Occucrier member and you'll get a blank stare.
@BustyerUniongoon So your solution to the problem of money in politics is to just make the government so weak and superfluous that the same pivate entities that crashed our economy would never even think of buying political influence, since they themselves would necessarily have much more influence than your awesome free market government could ever hope to achieve? Sounds dandy!
@JustinHampel Only a feckless fool doesn't understand that it was the government's 'Affordable Housing Programs' and the two 'Government Sponsored Enterprises' or GSE's that "crashed our economy". These two government entities, Fannie and Freddie, were the main catalyst of the crash, fueling the demand for subprime mortgages to meet federally mandated affordable-housing goals.
If you had a clue of what an "awesome free market" was, you would know that government meddling isn't part of it.
At the same time, WE THE BANKERS, have off-shore Swiss bank accounts so you the Federal government can't tax us. So whether or not you the Federal Government raises taxes, we the bankers don't really care...
Mr. Uygur, you do realize that most bankers are Democrats. I work for Goldman Sachs as an investment banker and here's my experience. The Democrats make erroneous promises through parks, welfare, housing, and so on to the American people during general elections. They fulfill their promises by issuing 30-year general obligation bonds to finance their legislation to score political points WHILE WE, THE BANKERS, COLLECT FEES TO UNDERWRITE THESE BONDS.
Is this really the best source from which to receive essential social information? Someone that makes sucking noises in front of the camera? I used to be very liberal and very conservative before that. Now all I can be without being ashamed of myself is alone. Intellectually alone.
@scottandrewhutchins I don't favor or even like aristocracy. But its a necessary evil, and they will never go away. The Estate Tax won't make them go away. Okay, so Jimmy only gets 2 billion instead of 4 billion. Nothing changes. Estate Tax is a penalty for being rich. I wonder what Republicans would say if they're given a choice: No Estate Tax, but your base income taxes are going up, way up. That's what I'd propose. We're fighting wars, and adjusted taxes are at their lowest in decades.
"Income Equality" isn't a meaningful term and it runs counter to all reason and logic. It is an unachievable Marxist concept, an Utopian fable with a goal of perpetuating an endless revolution in a communist movement. The state of “inequality” denotes there is a state called “equality.” Otherwise, the term would be meaningless. So if we assume there is such a thing as “equality” then we therefore have to assume that someone must be responsible for defining what “equality” looks like.
@BustyerUniongoon I agree, but no one's really complaining about "income inequality", just HOW unequal it is. Yes, there should be some difference, but only enough to make it so there's incentive to do the jobs that are the most essential and the most difficult to be qualified for. Instead, we have the rich who have done hardly anything to earn their wealth and the poor who are working their asses off, generally speaking of course.
What the eff is the difference between 'inequality' & 'unequal'? Both still need a description of what would be considered equal. Just how unequal is it? When would it finally be classified as equal? What results and system of determining these results would finally end such an asinine diatribe?
What is this magic math equation that somehow makes possible for a person's amount of wealth to be made less by the amount of another's wealth with only the attribute of being more?
@BustyerUniongoon I never said there was a difference. I was just trying to tell you there are very few people who are complaining that some people earn more or less than others. What annoys people is the fact that people who are already millionaires and billionaires are trying to screw lower class people over to get even more money in their greedy pockets.
@TheCreeperhunter So you are proposing that once someone makes enough to reach a certain figure, they should shut it down? Retire and sell the business?

@BustyerUniongoon Not even close. You really shouldn't try to read people's minds. Are you completely missing the part about them screwing the rest of us over? @fightforyourrights9 o no because i give two shits about my syntax on youtube- a site mainly occupied by uneducated bums-PS: burma isnt run by educated people, its run by power driven abusers, but you want a country driven by people who get their knowledge from the media? how about you move to spain and look for a job you dumb cunt-quit talking about shit you dont even understand- its people like you i dont want having a say in shit- only smarter people or at least college grads
College grad and current law student here: So because most major media outlets are wholly inadequate at informing the public, you'd take away peoples' rights? By the way, pretty much every source of information you could ever access is media in some form, so people will be getting their knowledge from media for a long time to come. Take your authoritarian views somewhere else. The civilized world has no use for them.
Sure, because your friends have absolutely no free time. You seem to think I'm "trolling" because I posted on this video and was only responding to your response to me. It only took me four days to get that response to you, and another two days to respond to this latest brilliant post. I must be spending my entire day on YouTube.

Multiplying that out: Goldman Sachs pays a total of $14 billion 319 million in salaries and bonuses to that lucky 38,900! IF that 14.3 billion had gone to $50-60K per year jobs for regular folks like teachers, police, etc, we could employ over a quarter of a million people. (Total earnings of GS estimated to be 38.4 billion! So what happened to the rest of their earnings? I want to see THEIR tax returns!)
This is more reason that Americans need to wake up and vote these corrupt republicans out of congress in 2012!!!! Obama is trying to help the poor and middle class, but republicans are not helping!!!!
the answer is really simple: just tax the rich a little bit more. NO, DONT TAX THEM TO DEATH, but tax them a little bit more, and guess what? more funds, more government programs(education etc), less poverty, less unemployment, better standard of living. Its so simple.
I dont agree with Cenk on this generally but the 5:00 facts are kinda amazing. Definitely a problem is probably agreed by everyone just not the solutions
@Magicwillnz I've sent them my resume; they've insisted they have no openings. I have a B.A. in English and communication, an M.A. in media studies, and I have copyedited professionally. I nearly became homeless this past year because I haven't been able to get an interview no matter how many times I revamp my resume or get recommendations from others.
@redsox9890 You seriously think the bank CEOs earn the bonuses they give themselves? Hahahahaha Did they earn the bonuses they gave themselves when their criminal actions caused the economic collapse and they took tax payer money (very hard work)... then used that money to give themselves bonuses for a job well done (derserved it). Do they deserve their record tax breaks if they pay any taxes at all? Hard working?!? - Deserve?!?! If you believe that crap you are totally fucked in the head.
@gekapat im not talking about the crimminal ones. i talking about the majority who work hard, earn their money, and dont blame others when they jobless.
@redsox9890 The majority of the big banks were involved in criminal activity. Now I'm not talking about some small town banks. I was refering the big banks the Cenk was talking about in the video. I was joking about how these CEOs basically robbed the wealth of their banks, and I was informing criminals that they should rob those CEOs since that is were the money is, not in the banks anymore. I was joking, I was not advocating going out and robbing innocent people.. just the guilty one!
Drug wars, Oil wars, Class wars, Is there anything in the world we cannot turn into conflict and misery?
I hope Occupy Wall Street grows into something much bigger, if it hasn't already, because there are a thousand things we could change for the better in this world if we were just willing to fight for it.
@redsox9890 -------> Another 9/11 liar that thinks two planes can collapse three buildings from the top down due to "fire". Another 9/11 liar that thinks a former CIA oprerative of the USA (Bin Laden) planned and carried out to take over American air-space using only 19 men armed with box-cutters AND wont admitt that very belief is a "conspiracy theory"! Another fake "conservative" that thinks the govt. wouldn't lie and hire liars to mislead the public, as long as they are "Republicans".
@dlucas90 in 2001 the security was terrible and pilots often didn't cary weapons on board so a few men could easily take over a plane. And it wasnt due to fire that they collapsed. It was due to the fact the two giant planes carrying thousands of gallons of fuel crashed into two building going the speed of a bullet. And its not just republicans who know it wasnt the us, the whole country, republicans AND democrats know it was the terrorists. Funny people like you think everything is a conspiracy
@redsox9890 No, today the "security" is unconstitutional and couldn't stop a "terrorist" armed with a glass knife(or broken bottle) any more than they could box-cutters of yeasteryear. You are ignoring the Building 7 and you are ignoring the fact that if you destroy the top of a building it doesn't explain the demise of the undamaged lower portions designed to hold up the lighter upper portions.
Do you deny the Holocost! Do you believe villans only wear black hats? Partisan hack / moron.
@dlucas90 well brining those items onto a plane would be very easy in those days and once they are on the plane they could early use them to overtake the plane because the cockpit was always open. And i am not ignoring building 7. after the planes collapsed their were many pictures showing that half of the bottom support was blown out so there was not way it could stand. and they crashed in the middle-top of the buildings so when the top part collapsed it created a pancake effect just crushing
@redsox9890 Is your reasoning skills really that bad? What have I said that would make you conclude that I don't believe the holocaust was real? You are the type that doesn't believe "conspiracies" exist, therefore, you are more inclined to not believe in the conspiracy of the holocaust.
@dlucas90 really? the people that believe the holocaust was fake are usually the same people the think 9/11 was an inside job. i don't know where you get your facts from but you aren't even close.
1. Goldman Sachs tries to raise Islamic bonds ( called Sukuk ). The proposed bond issuance isn't approved because the bond's structure is fraudulent & not in compliance of Shariah standards.
2. Kudos to the regulatory officers who blocks & prevents Goldman Sachs' plan.
3. Refer : Business week & Bloomberg dated Dec 21, 2011
I guess when you have a few guys at the top making tens of millions it bumps that average up quite a bit. It's not like the mailroom guys are making six figures...
I just wan't to point out a slight problem with what Cenk said. It does not effect the overall point much:
Personally usable wealth is only part of all wealth. Most wealth is in production means like factories and shop space and much smaller part is in big boats and homes. That distinction should be made always.
It should be pointed out, in Obama's defense, that although the inheritance tax rate did drop from 45% to 35% under his watch, it would have gone to 0% had he done nothing to prevent the Bush law from taking full effect. Obama compromised in order to extend unemployment benefits. You can bet we would now have no estate tax if we had a Republican president in 2010. Just saying...
Income inequality can be repulsive at times because of the loop holes, but income inequality is the capitalist system, and when the opposite (income equality) is communism, are you sure you want to go there?
What we should be focusing on is plugging up the loopholes that allow insiders to rake in money through the Reserve and other insider sources (insider trading as well).
The solution is not to force everyone to make the same, that's communism and is very ineffective.
@SergeantPepper99 Theres a few problems with what your saying here though. Our country is not capitalist even though we like to think we have strictly capitalist ideals. I personally don't believe that the banking industry is an ethical one by any means. Also, all I think I need to say are the words BAIL OUTS!
we have no one to blame but ourselves. we surrendered our rights and our economic interests vis-a-vis the social safety nets for the dream of living in a world where we could become rich beyond our wildest dreams, and where we would be glad we don't have to pay taxes or pay into these nets. now, the dream is over, and we realized that wealth is best created by hard work and disciplined saving and not suffering economic catastrophes like prolonged illness or unemployment, where the nets come in.
@RebelGuy95 NeoLiberalism= Murder, Corporatism, War, Theft, and Immoral
Ron Paul and Libertarians = Freedom Peace Prosperity
Ron Paul appears as the Anti-Establishment candidate because he is the Anti-Establishment Candidate... They count on dumb asses like you to fall for the propaganda and dismiss him and accept your servitude
@SuperGreenSmartie The twisting is in how he represented it as Gingrich saying that poor kids should clean the schools to attend them, whereas what he actually said IIRC was that schools should be allowed to hire kids to clean them etc. But honestly that's nowhere near what Fox News does. TYT is unscripted, so Cenk can be forgiven for misrepresenting Newt's position while passively paraphrasing. Fox's dishonesty is deliberate and rehearsed.
@RebelGuy95 Ron Paul is exactly what coorporate America Doesn't want... 30 years in Congress and never has been corrupted, never accepted bribes or incentives... Im not going to argue.. The truth is clear, What you are saying is just regurgitated Corporate propaganda pushed by our 2 party systems to keep people like you from doing any critical thinking. Your the Ideal Slave....because you think your free, because you think your thoughts are actually yours...
Those captions are so distracting. It's hard to keep from reading them but they are so different from what the voice is saying. They just kind of lead to a dead end in thought because they are so nonsensicle sometimes.
@RebelGuy95 Whats left? What is left? Ron Paul is going to change the world by himself, If he gets elected than you will know the country is ripe for Revolution... It's not about Ron Paul... It's about Freedom, Justice, and Liberty.
@TheAsymmetrical Well, With Free Markets we'll be much more prosperous and well off... Whether their infallible...?? maybe, but only on a miniscule scale and damage is localized...Whereas Government regulations and policies do massive Damage and transfer wealth to the .01% from the Middle and upper class while handing out crumbs to the poor so they'll get reelected.
@cpufightclub Sorry, But If Government didn't have the power to oppress, than Corporations wouldn't have any power. Special Interests always always use the Government to do their Dirty work. The only solution is to have a Government that remains in the confines of the constitution.
@Mruiz201 yeah yeah hope for the best and vote for the lesser evil. tell me, how exactly is this new government going to be kept inline with the will of the people?
After hearing that I say just go ahead and tax these fat bastards until they hurt! And as someone who was once hit with overdraft fees that were a bit excessive...I say fuck the bankers.
10,000 an hour? i dont even make that much in a YEAR. oh well, i guess that person really is like a million times more useful to society so he deserves that kind of pay... i just have to work harder and maybe i will be 1/100,000th of his worth some day...
@RebelGuy95 True. No disagree. Although I don't really think it would've mattered if it would've been Carter or another guy. I think that as soon as Nixon ended Bretton Woods it was just a matter of time for the whole deregulation misery to occur.
$10,000 an hour? How can someone even live with themselves having that much money knowing that there are good people struggling to make that much in a year?
I agree with most of the points in this video but the estate tax. I believe if your family earned the money it should stay in the family. The assets were taxed already when it was earned, why tax it again if someone dies?
@MrLewisTan Because it's bacily a gift to people after you die. When some one gives you money over x anount it's taxed. How is this something other than a gift.
@MrLewisTan it still perpetuates inequality. While the wages for African Americans and Whites have started to remain the same there is still economic disparity because of the accumulation of weath is higher for whites than blacks.
@MrLewisTan The reason it's taxed again is to prevent the accumulation of wealth and property in the hands of just a few families. Please think about it, or better yet, go research why the tax was implemented in the first place.
@MrLewisTan I agree with you in principal with famely and asset taxes.
problem is that there is an limited amount of money and if some famelies/ppl always spends less then they earn, the payment and value of other ppls wages goes down.
alternativ is to print even more money which make the money it self decrease in "value".
it is a conflict between economic system and what is fair.
personally I havn't seen much ppl addressing the problem, of this conflict.
@MrLewisTan Because you don't pick your swim team for the 2020 Olympics from the offspring of the 2000 olympics medalists. And it's a tax that affects the super rich, who can afford it much more than someone making 1500 a month.
@MrLewisTan Fuck that, if you didn't work for it it should be taxed to high hell if you are left over about 50,000 dollars. It's fucking wrong for some one to just be born and then never have to do shit or contribute anything to society. RAISE THE ESTATE TAX IN MY OPINION
@MrLewisTan It's real simple. A person only needs so much to live on. Even if you're living the life of a billionaire your gonna find it hard to live on more than a few hundred million a year. So after you reached a certain level, your fortune just grows and grows, as you do nothing and live off the interest. With each generation the same occurs, until you have created incredible income inequality, like we have now. Monumental income equality destroys society.
What Cenk fails to understand is that there will always be income inequality, and there will always be rich relative to poor. That will never, ever change. The increasing gap wouldnt actually matter if we didnt have high levels of inflation.
Cenk seems to believe wealth is a number printed on a peace of paper, and the higher the number the greater the wealth. Cenk has no clue about purchasing power, and thus his entire argument is null and void.
Wow I feel small. And I thought 20k a month was huge. LOL

Another fake "conservative" that thinks the govt. wouldn't lie and hire liars to mislead the public, as long as they are "Republicans".
dlucas90 1 month ago
@dlucas90 in 2001 the security was terrible and pilots often didn't cary weapons on board so a few men could easily take over a plane. And it wasnt due to fire that they collapsed. It was due to the fact the two giant planes carrying thousands of gallons of fuel crashed into two building going the speed of a bullet. And its not just republicans who know it wasnt the us, the whole country, republicans AND democrats know it was the terrorists. Funny people like you think everything is a conspiracy
redsox9890 1 month ago
@redsox9890 No, today the "security" is unconstitutional and couldn't stop a "terrorist" armed with a glass knife(or broken bottle) any more than they could box-cutters of yeasteryear. You are ignoring the Building 7 and you are ignoring the fact that if you destroy the top of a building it doesn't explain the demise of the undamaged lower portions designed to hold up the lighter upper portions.
Do you deny the Holocost! Do you believe villans only wear black hats? Partisan hack / moron.
dlucas90 1 month ago
@dlucas90 well brining those items onto a plane would be very easy in those days and once they are on the plane they could early use them to overtake the plane because the cockpit was always open. And i am not ignoring building 7. after the planes collapsed their were many pictures showing that half of the bottom support was blown out so there was not way it could stand. and they crashed in the middle-top of the buildings so when the top part collapsed it created a pancake effect just crushing
redsox9890 1 month ago

@SuperGreenSmartie The twisting is in how he represented it as Gingrich saying that poor kids should clean the schools to attend them, whereas what he actually said IIRC was that schools should be allowed to hire kids to clean them etc. But honestly that's nowhere near what Fox News does.

SHEEPLEwhisperer 2 months ago
@MrLewisTan The reason it's taxed again is to prevent the accumulation of wealth and property in the hands of just a few families. Please think about it, or better yet, go research why the tax was implemented in the first place.
shalcall 2 months ago 4

RAISE THE ESTATE TAX IN MY OPINION
daveyrich89 2 months ago
